I went downhill pretty quick yesterday. I woke up not feeling 100% but I figured it was just b/c of the previous nights of insomnia. By early afternoon I was feeling really nauseous and I had a lot of pain in my abdomen and lower back. By the time DH got home I was miserable and I had a lot of blood in my urine (sorry TMI ). I also had that feeling of having to pee even after I had just gone. I figured I had a UTI but I was surprised by how much pain I was having so quickly. DH insisted I go to Urgent Care, by that time it was 11:30 and about ZERO degrees outside..UGH!
After driving to two different 24 Hour Urgent Care Centers that were CLOSED we finally ended up at the ER. We had to make 3 stops during that time (20 minutes) for me to use the bathroom.
I give my info at admissions than a nurse takes my BP and temp. She takes me to this room that was across from the nurses' station and there was a long desk of computers with some doctors sitting there. She leaves me with the door open. So everyone that walks by is of course staring at me as I'm sitting there in discomfort. Another nurse comes in and starts asking me the same questions that the first nurse had asked. Then another lady from admissions comes in with this computer on a cart to ask me questions about my ethnicity preferences. They leave and another nurse comes in to tell me that they sent my specimen to the lab and the doctor will be with me shortly. I'm (trying) to sit there for quite some time in quite a bit of pain when one of the docs at the computer stands up and starts walking towards my room. This was after about 10 minutes of me just sitting there watching him on the computer, drinking coffee and chatting with folks. You won't believe this though, instead of coming into my room he stops midway between his computer and my room and asked me "Are you having pain in your lower back and abdomen?" Once again (for the FOURTH time) I said "YES" then he turned around and sat back down at the desk! He didn't even come into my room! Once again I wait trying to find a comfortable position b/c I was feeling really uncomfortable and painful. Two of the nurses came back in to tell me that they are still waiting then the doctor gets up shortly after that and once again stops outside of my room and tells me that I have an obvious bladder and kidney infection. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that he was standing about 20 feet from me in the main area. He turned around and went back to his computer. About 10 more minutes pass and the first nurse that I saw came into the room with my paperwork and meds. For pain she had two 500mg tablets of Vicodin!! She asked if I wanted both and I said "do you want me on the floor!" I'm 5'2" and 108lbs. I hate taking strong pain meds but by that time I would've set my hair on fire if I thought I would feel better. I walked out pass the doctor who didn't even bother to turn around.
Needless to say by the time I got home I was feeling pretty loopy and DH had to help me get into the house and into bed. I'm feeling a bit better today, the meds are making me nauseous. I'm trying to choke down some shredded wheat w/o milk. Not sure how long I'll be able to keep it down.
Can you believe that doctor! He looked to be around 60 yrs old and I'm wondering if his bedside manner has been that horribly insensitive his whole career! WTH!
