So My shin splints are bugging me I usually take 3 days off and they are better for months and months ..Ummm this time its not working . I'm sarting to wonder if I need new shoes . They still seem like new though ,of course I only workout in them but I guess my question is . Do you replace your shoes often ? Mine are like 1 yr old ,dont seem worn out but I wonder if its my shoes !!!Any ideas.??

Hi Mary,

I would guess yes, it's time for a new pair. I usually replace mine every 3-6 months. I do a lot of running on my treadmill but I use the same running shoes for all of my high intensity cardio sessions.
As a matter of fact, I just got rid of two pairs. It seems like such a shame but they were bothering me. That's how I know it's time for a new pair.

I agree,k 6 months is really about tops if you workout in them most days. They might look good on the outside, but they have broken down internally and are no longer a good support for your feet.

I like running and am on hiatus. I need to lose 40 pounds and getting rid of 20 would make things less taxing. Change the shoes, but also look at the strength factor of your calf muscles in general. Cathe has a weight training DVD all on the stability ball that concentrates on strengthening the shins specifically using the stability ball on the front of the feet and using the feet to push back on the ball. It really kicks up the strength and flexibility that causes shin splints.

Thanks Mogamambo---I didn't know there were recycling programs for sneakers! That's great info---I'll try to remember that next time I'm looking to get rid of mine.
