My body thinks I'm diabetic...

Does anyone know what it's called when your body behaves like you have diabetes but you don't (Diabetes... something)?

Constant thirst and chronic bathroom trips bothered me and got me in trouble at work. I told my doctor that I thought there was more than one issue at work. Tests revealed a bladder infection and curing that knocked my bathroom trips down to half, but I'm still going twice as much as all my co-workers. Doc sent me to a specialist who implied I'm just drinking more water than I need (I had to stop for a bottle of water immediately after my appointment so I don't think so) and I just let her go because I know better. She said before doing a "big blood panel" she wanted to first try a simple blood test.

Well, the test DID come back a little henky and now she wants me to do a 24 hour fast with no fluids. I'm miserable if I go more than a few minutes without a sip of something so this should be interesting. Her assistant told me they suspect I may have a condition (diabetes... something) where my symptoms mimic diabetes but I don't actually have diabetes. They're supposed to get back to me on when/how to do the fast.

Later today, I was speaking with my ART practitioner who spoke with her partner. I can't recall all the details and can't Google it because I can't remember what the affliction is called. But he said something about a signal getting jammed between my kidneys and some gland and my body sends out signals to "dry up", mimicking unmedicated diabetes symptoms. He said I'd have to be on some kind of blockers because I'm producing too much of something (I'm a really bad listener when my ART practitioner is torturing me!).

I never heard of this condition before. Anyone know what that second word is so I can Google the condition and find out more?

Thank you all so much!

HI SirenSongWoman,
Thanks for the plantar fasciitis advice! As for what you are describing, it sounds like Diabetes insipidus. I am not a doctor but I teach college A&P and Bio and the symptoms you described are the same ones we teach when talking about this condition. Here is a link I found that seemed helpful and talks about the hormonal issues associated with it. Hope this helps!
