My Birth Story

I must say this was the most rememberable and awesome experience of my 2 birthing experiences.

I went into the hospital to be induced on Friday, 9/9. I was 4 cm dialated when I got there. The nurse started the pitocin around 8 a.m. My doctor came into my room about 9:15 a.m. to tell me that she had changed her mind and was going to wait to break my bag of water until after she was finished with the surgery she had to do that morning. In hindsight, it was a very good thing she did. At 12:55 p.m. she came into my room to break my water. At that point I was only 5 cm dialated and having contractions, but not feeling them because my bag of water was blocking them. As soon as she broke my water I began to feel them and they were really strong. My doctor returned to her office, which is across the street from the hospital, in the meantime. After about 15 minutes of hard contractions I decided I should ask the nurse to get the anesthesiologist on his way to give me my epidural. However, I never got the chance to have the epidural or any other pain medication. Within minutes of asking for the epidural I felt like I needed to push. The nurse decided to check me and I was already fully dialated. She called the doctor and I began to push. The doctor made it in record time. I have never seen a doctor put on a gown so fast in my life. I pushed for only about 15 minutes and by 1:58 p.m. my daughter was born. I have a few stitches from where the doctor had to cut me because DD shoulders were so big. All in all, I am still amazed how quickly everything happened and how great I have felt ever since. I actually feel guilty that I am on maternity leave because I don't feel like I have given birth at all, just been off work on vacation or something.

I'm just really glad that I did not go into labor naturally at home. If my water would have broken there then I never would have made it to the hospital and DH would have been delivering our daughter himself probably at home or in our car.

Our daughter's name is Annamarie Grace. She weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long.

Wow Kristi!! That is the greatest story!! Congratulations on your new baby girl and on your amazing experience!!

Congratulations!!! I am glad everything went so well.

Our 5th baby was born 9/9/03--it's a good date:7

I had my water broken with babies #2 and #3 and went from a 6 to birth in about 30 agonizing minutes. Breaking the bag of waters can sure speed things up.

Nuzzle that newborn head for me and keep us posted on how things are going.

Maggie:)

Wow Kristi! Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story! Can I ask something kind of personal...if it is too personal sorry...how bad was it getting an episiotomy when you weren't frozen?

Debbie

Congrats Kristi!!!

Debbie, I am butting in here regarding your question. I am certain answers will vary, but I had an episiotomy with my first, which was a natural childbirth. The stretching of the perineum that occurs during childbirth "numbs" the perineum. I didn't feel my urethral tear, episiotomy, or stitches.

Congratulations Kristi!

That sounds awesome. I was dreading a possible induction but after reading your story, bring it on!

What a beautiful name for your little girl. Hope you enjoy the leave!

Kristi,

OMG!! what an amazing story. I am sooooo very happy for you and your family. Congratulations on your new addition to your family. you are so lucky to have only minimal pain:)

CONGRATULATIONS Kristi!!!! You had an amazing birth experience! Annamarie Grace is a beautiful name. How is her big brother adjusting to her? I'm so happy it all went so well for you. Good job!!!!!!!!

Autumn - Thanks for the answer...I am pregnant with my first child and kind of scared about the birthing process...but very excited to be a mother!
Thanks again
Debbie:)

Thank you everyone! I'm so glad that she is here now.

I must say that this was the hardest thing I've ever done and I've never experienced this level of pain before. But it was so worth it! I was really scared when the nurse said it was too late for any pain medication because I didn't know if I had it in me to deliver naturally. It is amazing what the body can endure.

Debbie, when the doctor at first was stitching me up I did not feel anything, but later on I began to feel it. At that point she used Lidocaine shots to numb the area which helped a lot.

Sandra, DS is taking her okay. He has always been #1 and a Momma's boy. He has his jealous spells. I try not to hold DD too much while he is around and I'm constantly giving him hugs & kisses and playing with him. He has became my little helper. I'm sure over time he will get comfortable with her presence. However right now I would truly shocked to see him loving all over her. BTW, how are you feeling? Any more contractions or loss of mucous plug?

WOW - what a wonderful birth story!!! I can't believe they cut you w/out pain meds - you are truely wonder woman! I hope you recover quickly! Congrats on a your daughter!

Hey Debbie!! You are welcome. It is ok to be kinda scared... heck, flat out scared... of labor and delivery. I am confident you will do well!

What a great story, Kristi, I am so happy for you! (That is also the best induction story I have heard!) Welcome Annamarie!

Congrats on your baby girl! What a wonderful story :) I hope my delivery goes that smoothly!!

Autumn, okay, your story has me all freaked out. So much tearing!! Augh, these are the things no one tells a woman before she gets pregnant LOL!
