Muscle Endurance & PUB

I use Cathe videos strictly for weight training, as I am a committed (or should be :))runner. I do one total body per week and 1 Upper Body per week and do abs every other day. I have been rotating the UB workouts of the S & H series with CTX UB and for my total body workout I use either PH or MIS with ab hits for the ab workouts. I also do hill intervals as part of my running program once a week for an additional lower body workout. This has worked well for me. I am interested in purchasing ME to add to my total body workout rotation and PUB to add to my UB rotation. Anyone (particularly a runner) have any input for me?

You know how it is ladies, if you are going to spend $50 on something, you want it to be money well spent.

Hi,

I use CTX for upper body a lot. It was my favorite until PUB came along. Now that one is the one I am always reaching for (I also like Joyce Vedral's pyramid workout, just the bood, not the tapes). I think PUB would be a great addition for you. I like ME, but I don't like it as much as PH. I haven't done MIS. I would say if you are trying to keep the spending down, just get PUB. If you are willing to spend the money because you want a new total body workout, go for ME because it is a great workout. BUT, in my opinion, PUB is something different from Cathe's other workouts where as ME is very similar to her others.

By the way, I run about 8 miles a week but I don't know if that classifies me as a "runner" or not. I do a lot of other cardio as well during the week, so I don't really consider myself a runner . . . but I wanted to give my opinion anyway because I really think PUB is a good purchase.

I use Cathe strictly for weight training also. My cardio is walking on the treadmill at the gym. I love step workouts, but for some reason just can't get motivated to sweat in my own living room (and my gym replaced step classes with those godawful spinning classes). Anyway, I started doing the pyramid workouts again this week, and would highly recommend PUB to you.

To tell the truth, I took the pyramid workouts out of my rotation for a while because I got bored doing 5 sets of everything. However, nothing gives me the great results that the pyramid workouts do, and I now look forward to doing 5 sets because I know how fast I will see results!

As for ME, it's a whole other type of workout, and obviously it makes sense to own some endurance workouts as well. I have trouble with endurance workouts because they are so long, and they are not easy to break up into bite-sized pieces. They are strictly weekend workouts for me. ME accomplishes the exact same things that PH does, so I would only add it to your routine if you seek a change from PH.

Hope this helps.

RE: Muscle Endurance & PUB

Nancy,
Regarding the Pyramids being too long. I usually just do Pyramid Up or Pyramid Down - three sets - at the heaviest weight I can handle. This cuts the time down and I have seen great results with muscle tone and definition. Just thought I would share if you ever want to do the Pyramids without doing 5 sets each time! Enjoy!

RE: Muscle Endurance & PUB

Hi!

I put in about 20 mi. a week ( I only train for 1/2 marathons....never do a full one again), anyway, I have found that the Pure Strength series has worked well for me. Like you, I run hills ( every 10 days or so) but find that my running really feels better if I add a hi/lo plyometric workout: Imax 1 0r 2, I also take a kickbox class at my gym that is heavy on plyo...wonderful!!

I am now using the PUB with PS legs and this seems to be a great change of pace. Soon I will add a spin class twice a week. I have found that if I keep my base miles at 15-25mi. a week and keep my weight work heavy for UB and moderate for lower, I get the best look and also avoid injury and boredom.

Good luck and I would DEFINITELY try the PS series:) Deb

Was just wondering -- I have vcr, unfortunately no DVD yet. If you only do the pyramid 3 sets up, do you just fast forward past the last two sets, or what?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

RE: Muscle Endurance & PUB

Hi,
I really like the Pyramid Series. I can't seem to move on to another rotation because of that. You get so much done with the Pyramids without having to suffer through endurance style lifting. I totally agree with that!!! It was the perfect series to follow up months of PS.
The DVD offers quite a variety...so I just do 3 sets a couple of weeks and then do 5 sets. When I have no time I do the Premix total body. If I slacked off during a particular week ... then it's 5 sets.
If I'm doing 3 sets and feel a need to hit the glutes more then its 5 sets of leg presses and deadlifts this week. Another poster figured when you're not in the mood for pyramids then just do straight sets. I'll try that soon too.:9

RE: Normandy

Normandy,
If you have a PUB video you could just fast foward through the last two sets.
Enjoy!
