Morning Cardio

Ok...I've now seen a few posts where doing cardio first thing in the morning fasted is the way to go. However, where does one find the energy? I always do cardio second thing in the morning, right after coffee, and some sort of carb for some energy! Isnt it like trying to run a car on empty? It sort of sputters and then just dies out.... I'm just curious how one stays motivated doing the imaxes on an empty stomach...:p

I usually have a scoop of protein and a teaspoon of melted coconut oil blended in with 8 ounces of water. The protein is a chocolate mint flavor and its enough for 50 minutes of elliptical. Then I have my morning coffee. But, if I do a Cathe workout (all of my cardio are kickboxing) I will take branched-chain amino acids about 30 minutes before hand. I usually have breakfast regardless which is a bowl of oatmeal with a small amount of milk very early in the morning around 6:00 am. Cardio will come about one or two hours later. The protein is so I don't eat into my hard-earned muscle. I don't believe in starving yourself ever, especially before a taxing cardio session.

Even a handful of raisens is good.

Thanks for posting this! I was going to ask about the amino acids. Do you both use that BioTest brand or is there another good one you'd recommend?:)

I've always done this and never had a problem with it.

In the reverse, I find that if I eat/drink anything at all before I get started, that I'll cramp up horribly while working out.

I guess for me, that becuase I'm fresh out of bed when I get to it, energy isn't really an issue. I'm starving when I'm done, but I don't have any trouble getting through the workout...

I use the Biotest brand because my two favorite trainers, John Berardi and Christian Thibaudeau, use and recommend the brand.

Ditto for me. Well, energy is an issue because I'm so dang tired x( but not from lack of food. I literally roll out of bed, throw on workout clothes and shuffle down to the basement.

If I workout later in the morning or afternoon I've got to have something in my stomach, though.

I just recently started doing morning cardio fasted and I'm really surprised that I have energy.

I cannot do step in the morning. I'm just not coordinated enough first thing. I couldn't even think about doing an Imax.

I can do Cardio Coach on my stationary bike first thing in the morning, though.
