Moisturizer Recommendation

Hey there!

So, I'm ready for a change in my skin-care regimine. As I mentioned in previous quotes, I live in CO in a very dry climate. I also have very dry skin- very, very dry skin. I've used Lancome, Signature Club A, Avon with some success. What I did like with Sig Club A is the Morrocon oil but they don't have the deals I like right now.

What have you used that you love- especially for very very dry skin.

Thanks!
Pam

Hi, Pam, a great place to get your health and beauty products is www.purebodysolutions.com. All the products they offer are 100% natural - no chemicals so your body actually absorbs the products, nourishing your skin, without irritation, versus it simply sitting on top of your skin.

Devita's Shea Butter Hand and Body Brulee is incredible. I always use jojoba oil by Heather Loraine on my face and body prior to applying any additional moisturizers. Jojoba oil will not clog your pores, in fact, it actually helps to keep them from getting clogged.

Omega 3’ss (taken internally) helps with dryness and also the hand and body soap you use has a huge impact on dryness. I find Bronner’s to be the best and most economical all natural hand and body soap. And it comes in wonderful scents (using 100% essential oils).

Hope this helps.

Elaine

You may have noticed by now that I'm an Avon Lady......in Arizona, also very very dry.....and of course, that's what I use. You may already know that Avon is always keeping up with the "big boys" and has just about everything Lancome, Clinique, etc, etc......has at 2/3 less the cost. Ingredient lists are available online for your comparison.

I don't usually try to promote my own business.....but since you're asking.....If you don't have an Avon Lady, I'd be honored to be your's On-line. I'll make sure you get FREE Shipping always. Just a thought. PM me if you have any questions. ;)

Just wanted to make a suggestion. If you haven't heard of Paula Begoun, you should check out her website and products at www.paulaschoice.com. She doesn't have gimmicks or false claims..just really really awesome products. I have been using her stuff for about 12 years now and love it. She has several moisturizer options for dry to very dry skin, including sunscreen options, which everyone should use for the daytime. Hope you find something you like!

p.s. here is the URL for her "skin recovery moisturizer for normal to very dry skin":

I swear, I haven't found anything better than Pond's. Yes, the drugstore, dirt-cheap, $3.99 Ponds. I have dry sensitive skin, and it works wonderfully, not greasy at all.

I know I've said this before, but if you're looking for facial moisturizers, I think it all depends upon whether or not you wear make-up foundation. There are plenty of products that will moisturize extra-dry skin, including some of the Paula Begoun products. But if you're meeting the public every day, like I am, and wear foundation, it's not so simple to find something that doesn't cake up or bead up or do something to interfere with the look of the foundation (I think Paula Begoun misses the target in this category).

I have very dry skin also, but I don't live in a particularly dry climate here in New York, so we may have different needs. By day, I find that Eucerin Sensitive Skin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Lotion with spf 15 works great under make-up, and still keeps my skin moist all day, even in the dead of winter. For night, I just use whatever extra thick moisturizer for extra-dry skin is on sale, because they all work pretty well.

Two good websites to check out:

1. http://www.makeupalley.com/. You can find lots of reader reviews of almost anything you're looking for.

2. http://www.goodguide.com/browse/184401-skin-care/top#. To make sure the products you choose aren't too toxic. Looking good isn't worth killing yourself for. ;)

Let us know what you decide!

OK, this may sound crazy. But I recently switched to olive oil as my skin care regime. Just olive oil. And nothing else.

To use it as a make-up remover, just spread it onto your face and massage it in. Wipe away makeup with a cotton ball or soft tissue.

To use it as a cleanser, apply about 1/2 tablespoon or so to your face and massage it in for about 1 minute. Take a warm, wet washcloth and place it over your face to sort of "steam" yourself. Wipe away any excess oil, or leave it there and let your skin enjoy the extra moisture.

I even use it in the morning. I wait about 15 minutes after washing to let the oil sink in, then apply makeup. No more dryness.

It's been FREEZING cold and very dry here, and with all the central heat my skin is peelingly dry in seconds if I use soap or conventional cleansers. I lived in Denver for many years and I had terribly dry skin, too. You may need something creamier to really combat the dryness - Ponds is good, I used to use it all the time after skiing in CO.

My dermatologist actually recommended the olive oil to me because I have dry skin and I break out a lot. I thought she was NUTS - oil is my problem, right? So she asks me to put OLIVE OIL on my face? She told me to just try it for a couple weeks and the difference is AMAZING. Breakouts substantially reduced (they weren't going away, even with doxycycline and Retin-A), and my skin doesn't dry out anymore. Plus, it cost me 5.99 for a giant bottle of extra-virgin olive oil which looks like it'll last two months.

I expect I'll switch to something else during the summer, but for now, this is really working for me.

Wow!!!! Even the Avon Lady might try that one!

I would also suggest a natural oil that mimics the natural sebum and acdi mantle of the skin, like olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil. Use less than you think you need at first, and increase from there as necessary.

I, too, love jojoba oil. And, grape seed oil works great too. I found grape seed oil for about $5.00 at my co-op.

I meant to add

The other thing she recommended as a cleanser was Shu Uemura Oil Cleanser. I looked into it, but it's pretty spendy, so I decided to try the oilve oil first. The principle is the same, either way - don't strip away your skin's natural moisture in the first place, and your skin won't be as dry.

Pam...I use a skin care line called Biodroga, a German product. It's a little pricey but smells AMAZING. And is super moisturizing. I order from Amazon, the milky cleanser and moisturizer. Did I mention it's amazing? ;)

WOW! Thanks, gals!! Looks like I have some research to do. Lots of great options - especially in the 'natural' categories, which I honestly haven't looked since I figured they might not be as good. I think I may have a change of heart.

Happy Sunday!
Pam
