MIS vs POWER HOUR

I am new to the forum although I have been doing Cathes tapes for a while. I have been using the PS series and Cory Eversons Get Hard and needed a change. I have become very strong but really want more definition in my upper body. I tend to get bulky in the quads and want to work my legs appropriately. I am finishing my first week of SH (Do you think the legs will be too bulking? I am thinking I will just use low weight) and will continue the rotation for 2 more weeks, then want to do Marlenes Tank Top Arms Rotation, so I am going to purchase some more workouts. I was wondering what the difference is between MIS and PowerHour? Can one replace the other? Also, about CTX, it just doesn't seem worth it to me, but everyone seems to be a fan of the series....What are the shoulders, biceps, and triceps workouts comparable too? How do you use the cardio parts? I tend to do lengthy cardio workouts, trying to stay in "the zone" for 40min to and hour and the workouts on the DVD seem too short. I would appreciate any input you have. Another quick question, how much cardio is considered "too much" as far as conflicting with strength gains? I am very excited about this forum and look forward to exchanging more info. I don't know anyone who is as into fitness as I am so it is wonderful for me to find so many people just like me!

HI! Welcome to the forum :)

1. The major differenc between MIS and Power hour (IMO) is that MIS is slightly more strength oriented (heavier weights, slightly slower pace), and PH is more endurance oriented. There really are few to no breaks between exercise in Power Hour, and you do many reps with relatively light weight. Another difference is that the leg work in PH is broken up into a squat segment and lunge segment, seperated by the chest and back work (am I remembering correctly??)
2. I guess if you slowed down some of the reps in Power Hour and went a little heavier, you could make it more along the lines of an MIS workout.
3. I would compare the shoulder, bicep and tricep work in CTX to the work in PowerHour, in that it is mostly endurance work. However, the exercise themselves are different, and rely more on dumbells than a barbell (I think!). The weight load is lighter than in MIS and PS. The segments are short (but effective for building or maintaining endurance), and I would use them as a maintenance program rather than to gain strength.
4. The cardio segments are short, but if you are getting the DVD they can easily be combined with each other to make longer, very intense workouts. Even as they stand they are intense, and if you usually do 40-60 minutes of cardio, it may do your body good to change things up a bit...
Hope that helped somewhat!

MIS was my first Cathe tape and I was doing that one at full throttle when I got Power Hour. The only part that really got to me were the lunges. I wasn't sure if I wanted to cry or throw up or both. Now I mainly do PS Legs or Leaner Legs and upper body work on seperate days. This morning I did Power Hour and found it very difficult. I had a tough time getting through it with about 60% of my usual weights. Again, the leg work made me absolutely ill. But I will keep working on it. Obviously if it makes me feel this bad, I'm lacking something in my training and need to work harder.

Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it! One quick question, as far as the sets and reps do you think I could substitute the segments of PH for the CTX upper body for the Tank Top Rotation? Are there as many exercises for each upper body part? Of course I will eventually get them all, but can't all at once.
Thaks again!

I'm currently in week two of the Tank Top Rotation and I'm enjoying the variety. I think you could easily substitute sections of Power Hour for CTX, however, that being said, the strength portions of the CTX are among my favorite. I'm probably one of the few that dont care for the cardio portions as much with the exception of 10/10/10, kickbox and the cardio portion of her Power Circuit tape. The rumor is that there's going to be a dvd coming out with only the strength portions of the CTX, something to think about if you have a dvd player.
