Mirror images of workout tapes

I heard somewhere that Cathe and all the crew have to say left when they mean right and vice versa so that it looks correct to the viewers. Wouldn't it be possible to just reverse the image of the tape? I mean, especially with digital technology, it seems like it would be easier to do that than have those poor women confusing right and left. I wonder if Cathe gets confused when she's not teaching and has to think twice which is which. I have always wondered this, maybe it is a very stupid question, but why not ask, then i can stop wondering!

That's what I've always wondered! I'd just assumed that they switched the film around so the instructors wouldn't have to remember to always say the opposite but I've heard recently that they do have to remember to say 'right' when they're actually using their left. That would be so confusing! I just couldn't image going back and forth between filming and teaching class like that, what a headache!

Have...

...you ever noticed the rubberband on Cathe's left wrist? It's to remind her that it's her "RIGHT" side for the tapes! (But, actually, its' her LEFT!!) I agree that reversing everything would be tough, especially cardio! I face away from my students on the cardio section and then face them on cool down and muscle toning which is easier. Don't know how she does it!

RE: Have...

I used to teach a high impact class and a step aerobics class. I did everything mirror image. It gets to be a habit. I even got to the point where I could mirror image and change feet if we started moving around the room, such as in a circle. You just do a little double hop on one foot and, voila, you are on the same foot as the class. It gets really easy. I had the hardest time when I stopped teaching and had to remember that my right was really right.

RE: Have...

Ok, does anyone have the opposite problem as I do? For some reason, I have always perceived right as right & left as left even in a mirror or mirror image. I don't know why, but my mind always makes the adjustment so that when Cathe, for instance, says left I see it as right! I've always done it in mirrors & photos too, although it is not a problem there! It can get confusing...I have to train myself to just know when she says right it means MY right, & not her left which I can see perfectly well is what she is on!
Ok I'm weird, but surely someone else has this problem! :)

So that's it!

Oooooh, so that's what the rubber band is for! I was thinking about asking Cathe on the "Ask Cathe" forum, but now I know. Thanks. I still don't see why they don't just switch the tape around, especially with the digital technology going for them.

By the way Debbie, I like your closing line, great song too! Maybe Cathe will use it in one of her cool downs sometime soon :).

RE: So that's it!

I wondered about that rubber band, too! I thought it was to tie her hair back during breaks.

In some of the FIRM tapes, you can catch the instructors confuse their right with their left as well.

RE: Have...

Gosh, I always wondered if that was a tattoo or something like that on her wrist!! Could never figure it out!! Thanks for clearing that up, how funny!!
