Minutes of Cardio Per Week?

Hi all! Just curious, how many minutes of cardio would you say you get per week? With CTX, if you don't add any on, the cardio adds up to be 120 minutes. I am going to do a S&H rotation and being that those videos are an hour long, I figured I'd do 1 each for 3 days and then cardio videos 3 days: CK, Step Fit, and IMax. Those videos add up to exactly 120 minutes of cardio too! Just wondering how many minutes you guys clock in at each week. Is there a recommended amount? Am I short changing myself in this department? Thanks

I have just finished a very similar rotation except I did PS instead of S&H (which I guess is a little less intense than S& H). I used the same videos for cardio (except I did Rythmic Step instead of Step Fit). I was really nervous about the reduced cardio at first but it really worked well for me. I was full of energy and I saw visible results on my body in terms of muscle. I am also down a size on both my upper and lower body after this rotation. As someone who tends to be rather addicted to lots of cardio (atleast 4 hours per week), my body has really responded to the reduced cardio in a positive way. Another thing that seems to work for me is varying the length of the cardio sessions I do. For e.g a 30 min intense workout on one day and a 60 minute workout the other. Give it a try or you will never know - Good luck!

Oh thank you! I used to workout a lot and then came to a dead stop. I do not want to get burned out again - your rotation sounds great! I have Rhythimic Step but have never tried it. Now I will! Thanks again.

I maintain at 119lbs with 120 minutes of cardio and 3 strength workouts (ps or s/h) and about 2000 calories a day. Six exercise days and one rest day. This has worked for the last six months.

Right now I'm playing with upping my cardio and doing power hour/mis for two weeks. I'm worried about losing muscle but want to improve my endurance.

I read somewhere that after 45 mintues into a cardio session, you start burning lean muscle. Don't know if that's true but I avoid long runs more than once a week for that reason.

HI jilly,
I do cardio almost every day of the week.Sometimes I may take Saturday off if we have plans to do something. And some days I do 2 cardio.Today I went for a 45 minute run and now I am thinking about doing Curcuit max.I would say that i get atleast 6 45 minute sessions and probably 2 hours a week of weights. So that will be 270 minutes a week for me.I think to stay in shape you are suppose to have atleast 3 days of cardio a week.but if you want to lose weight then you should go for 45 minutes maybe 5 days a week. Thats what I have reads anyways....hope i helped.

I'm trying to up my cardio. This week I managed 45 min spin, 30 minute Body max, 30 min of CK, 45 PM and 45 KRoberts Step. That's what? 150 minutes? This kills me already...lol. But it's true it does shrink you fast though. Maybe it's just switching rotations that does that, but I am going to try to work up to atleast 5x week. Must learn to balance the impact and length too though. Wish me luck and have fun!

Hi Jill!

I recently asked Cathe how much cardio per week was recommended for people who are not trying to lose weight, just maintain, and she said 3 30 minute sessions per week was the recommended minimum. I weight 104 and am not trying to lose weight so I usually do 90 to 120 minutes per week and concentrate more on weights and yoga. Obviously if someone is trying to lose they would up the cardio.

I hate cardio. Hate it. I got a Runervals tape which is interval training on the treadmill (35 minutes). I do that 3x per week, 2 Cardio Kicks per week and racewalk for an hour outside on the CK days. I wish I didn't have to do any of it, although CK is fun.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-01-02 AT 03:33PM (Est)[p]I feel sad when I read a post like yours, K60. There has to be something out there you can do that you'd like. I've found that my two favorite activities are walking and step aerobics (Cathe tapes). I could do step aerobics every day if I could get away with it. Is there something you could try that you'd like? I'm not familiar with your posts enough to know whether you've tried step tapes.

Is it possible that you are doing too much, especially on the days when you do CK and walk for an hour. Could you be dreading your workouts because you're doing too much? THAT is NOT fun! The big key to consistantly working out is to do what you LIKE to do.
