MIDDLE AGE MIDSECTION

I have been very faithful in my workout routines over the last 5yrs or so. I feel in shape, I have decreased a pant size..however....my mid/lower section doesnt seem to go away!!!I have the muffin top thing going on over my pants and when I suck in my belly the paunch is still there. Never had kids just have the little paunchy belly. Am 5'1" and over 40...help!:(

I would love to see Cathe ( or anyone else's) reply here. I have been working out and eating well for over 6 months, lost 21 pounds, dropped 2 pants sizes, but the ab section is still bad!

p.s I am 5'4 age 54.

Deb:)

In my experience, the lower abs are the worst and most stubborn body part-especially with women. The only way to rid that pooch is by super CLEAN EATING and high intensity CARDIO along with weight training. Cathe will probably tell you to increase your intensity, vary your routines, and mostly importantly watch your diet!
sorry Cathe, but had to put in my 2 cents!

Well you're absolutely right about scrupulous clean eating, minimal portios, and intense exercise about fighting middle age body changes - I've been a fitness buff for 30 years, since I was 14 ....BUT at 46, even with HIIT, hard core intervals, p90x+ et all, and I do them religiously, I am JUST not into drinking club soda when everyone else has a beer in the southern VA heat, not INTO saying "no thanx" when a family brings us a chocolate cheese cake now and again (I'm a nurse)....I"m not INTO pushing intensity till I want to vomit....and a size 6 over a 4 doesn't bother me like it did......BUT.........sigh......as I zipped up my teen's size 4's (yea, they did zip) - I also had a roll that has appeared in the past couple years....its hormonal, its not living a life of deprivation..didn't start till I hit 43,...and you know what.... a co-worker just got diagnosed with metastatic melanoma (never a sun person..go figure)..and will be dead within a month or two...so, eat sanely and workout as though you need to be fit forever, but remember to LIVE as though you could die tomorrow - and what's a little muffin top...that's the best part of the muffin!

ps.- having been thus profound....if anyone finds a way to blast it away without severe deprivation - I'm all ears!

I totally agree with you! I'm also 46 (almost 47) and have worked out most of life. Always active, always eating healthy. But after 40, I developed a little "pouch" that won't go away. I even lost weight and that darn thing is still there. Never had kids, so that's not an excuse. My stomach was always super flat till now. Oh well, such is life. I'm not losing sleep over it, and I'm certainly not giving up my sweets because of it either. (Love to bake, and love to eat the "bakes"). Life's too short. Enjoy every minute, And remember... don't sweat the petty stuff (and don't pet the sweaty stuff either!)

I'm turning 46:( next week and got the "muffin top" a year ago. Checked some things out (all is ok), turns out it's just a 'muffin top" oh well, like was said, don't sweat the small stuff...keep on living for tomorrow.

Most of the time, I notice things that nobody else notices. I feel fit. I feel good. Muffin top or not..... The good news is that my hips, love handles, and thighs are more toned over time. The weight has just redistrubuted.

If I wear pants cut just below belly button level, the muffin top looks smaller.

Regards,

Rhonda

LOVE IT! It's hard to enjoy life when you are watching every last morsel that touches your lips and counting every calorie burned and every ounce lost!!! :7

It could drive you nutty!!!!

I totally agree :)

Life indeed is too short to obsess over our perceived flaws.

I bet every single one of you has a much better body than you think.

It has been my experience that men (women) prefer a woman with some curves versus a signficant other who is all bony and has ribs that sharply protrude.

If a person wants to totally embrace the program that is very regemented as a goal that is fine.

And if a person wants to enjoy sodas, baked goodies, etc., that is fine too.

The most attrractive and sexy attribute is a woman who is sexy in her own skin.

Some good suggestions on the best ways to try to work on it, but still agree that age and changes in hormones will make a difference to some of us.

Hitting the big 50 in a few weeks - the last two years I have been sporting a little pooch too - and mine is a bit worse due to 3 C sections. The pooch has a definite 4" line at the point where it starts. Could never wear stretch pants. :7

But who cares - I watch what I eat to an extent, exercising pretty regularly (in between bouts of work craziness) and feel good for my age. My DD is always commenting on how her friends think I am much younger but just have a few extra wrinkles on my face.

I just laugh and figure it is also because I still act as "crazy" as I did when I was in my 20's and love to laugh and crack jokes.

So don't go crazy over a little pooch, just join the rest of us. Maybe we can start a check in for those of us with pooches? :+

I'm 46 and never had kids. I haven't had a big problem with my mid-section. I've been running more lately as I plan to do my first 5K and 10K races. I've noticed since I started running that my mid-section is shrinking. I have a nice, flat belly. If had known this, I would have started running sooner!:)
