Michelle Obama

I loved Michelle Obama's fit arms, but I really didn't dig the ball gown. I don't think I would have liked in much on anyone (just not my taste), and it somehow didn't seem to suit her. Maybe it's because it looked like she was slightly annoyed by having to drag the train part of it around when she walked. She had to be hating that.

As for Jill Biden, if I had legs like that, you can be sure I'd be showing them. I never had legs like that even in my 20's. Woe is me.

Have a great night!

I think there's a slight chance the dress might look good on a 7 year old.

I did not like Michelle's dress for the swearing-in ceremony.
Those green shoes were awful and the tie in front of her dress?
The dress she wore for the ball had too much poof. I thought it looked like a bad prom dress.

The kid's coats and scarves are J. Crew, as were Michelle's cool green gloves (love that). However, I think they are from next Fall's collection, if I heard correctly.

Michelle's choices all day were great. Thank god we don't have Nancy Reagan's fashion choices screaming at us any more. The only thing she should have done that would have taken that perfectly acceptable dress out of little girl land and into mature woman who knows her own tastes land would have been to wear her hair in an up-sweep to match the gown and make this choice stand out more from the stunning day time choices.

I also like Nancy's choice for her, juts not in that god-awful dull silver metallic colour! Michelle looks great in vibrant and stark colours.

Agreed! A vibrant metallic gold would have been perfect for her. Another reason why I chose that dress for her (give me a call, Michelle! I've got all kinds of ideas!) is that it downplays the hips and balances them with the big flare at the bottom. One of many problems with the dress she chose was that it poufed at the hips, and was just the wrong shape for her body.

I think Michelle Obama will be a very inspiring First Lady to many people.

IM(very)HO, I don't dig the fashion choices she makes, and I thought the inaugural ball gown yesterday looked like a bedspread from the 60s.

And really, I'm bored of hearing about her 'toned arms'. Any woman who works on a farm for a living has the same arms.

But that's my two cent opinion.

Nance, I totally agree with you on the dress! I would have loved to see her hair in an upsweep too, there was a lovely picture of her and Barack at a different formal event during the campaign, she was wearing a sexy but appropriate strapless dress with her hair swept up, she didn't even look the same...amazing. The skirt of the gown was horrible, I understand supporting unknown designers for sure, but she flubbed this one up.

I hated her lemon lime outfit...oh dear. It did not suit her body type at all. She has wide hips, a nice big butt and long legs, short waist, it just didn't do anything for her. I will love watching her and what she wears though. I love Laura Bush but always hated her dark lipstick and most of her clothing choices. Although the baby blue I believe it was Oscar..gown was stunning on her.

The swearing in dress - I liked it even though I am not quite sure what color it was? Everyone printed that it was gold but it looked more greenish to me so hence the shoes and gloves.

The evening dress - booooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnggg. Her arms looked great but the rest of it didn't. She honestly looked preggers?

Jill Biden had the better evening dress.

I won't comment on what I think of the new first lady. I will let time help me make that judgment.

As you can tell - I didn't vote for him. But the fashion watch is fun.

Gotta admire her for being willing to subject herself to public scrutiny for her husband. Her hips are too wide? She looks preggers? Her clothing choices are horrible?

I am sure glad people don't look at my clothing choices at times. I think she looks like a normal, healthy woman. She is not a supermodel for crying out loud. I wouldn't have chosen those dresses but I think she looked beautiful and very down-to-earth.

Me personally, I am more interested in her brains than her clothes or her hips. I think she is an inspiration regardless.

My point of this thread was really that she was fit and toned, and I am excited to have 2 very health conscious (minus Barack's smoking...!! ..has he quit yet?) people as President and First Lady.

Susan... why would you be tired of hearing about someone who works out and uses weights and looks good? I love that!

Make that one. Last I read, he's "trying" to quit. I know as an ex-smoker, it is extremely difficult to break the habit. For some, it may take several tries. I have friends who have quit and start up again years later because of stress. I wanted to pick up a cigarette when my mother died 5 years after I quit. The added pressure of his new position will make quitting even tougher.

Both women were beautiful. I thought that both of the gowns were gorgeous. I particularly loved Jill Biden's gown. I think that I remember reading that Michelle Obama works out 4-5 days per week.

What I meant was that the white dress made her look preggers - from the side view it did.

And white is nice but I think a blast of color would have been a better choice.

I love the fact that she took a chance with up and coming designers.

You liked the ball gown, Laura? Really?? Geez, I thought it was downright awful. Interesting, as I think you have good taste. Don't you think she would have looked better in something more sophisticated like this, say in gold?:

I like that gown for ME! LOL! It's beautiful. It would've looked gorgeous in gold, but she couldn't wear the same color in the day AND evening now, could she?

Yes, I did like her gown b/c I thought it reflected both strength & femininity.

But not to fear, I think we'll see lots of cool & diverse fashions from her. I think she's gonna be quite the trend setter.
