Michelle Dozois - Peak 10 Challenge

I am starting the challenge today....but instead of doing the Fit Test I'm subbing in Cardio Interval Burn (she remade this workout with a new cast). This will be my 1st time using this set so I can't review it....yet! ;)

I`ve been thinking about getting these workouts but I`m waiting to read some reviews first. It looks really good but I`ve never done her workouts before.

I was just looking at this set and saw that it included the first two peak 10 workouts which I didn't want to purchase again. Are you saying that they are the same workouts with different casts?

Yes, they are the same workouts she already put out, but re-filmed to match the branding of the full set. This right now is why I am not purchasing quite yet, combined with the higher price point, I can't justify it unless I hear some really RAVE reviews.

Quite honestly I am astonished at Michelle's audacity at expecting people who previously purchased the first two independent releases to now shell out again for the same two workouts. In her place, and in the interests of customer service, I would personally buy back the previously released DVDs from any customer who wanted to buy the new set. I find her current policy to be dishonest. When asked if she would lower the price for those who had previously purchased, she claimed it was "out of her hands," which I find to be a weak excuse as she could have argued for this in her contract, and her advice to these customers was to re-buy the whole set, yes, in this economy, and gift the previous purchases to a friend.

Not good enough.

I have liked the clips I have seen of this set on her Facebook site, but I cannot afford to have wasted the $40 I spent on the first two, independent releases. Bad PR. Workouts may be great, but I'm not impressed with Michelle's lack of appreciation for her customers.

If you like crowd noises on your workouts, whooping and such, you are in for a treat. Also Michelle never stops talking on these DVDs. I found that annoying.

See your point Clare, but isn't this new set of hers targeted towards a much broader audience? Infomercials really do play to everyone, not just the fitness sector. While some may see that as unfair, I think those one on one things Tony Horton has done (is doing?) is setting up the groundwork for his new series.

Same or not, it's probably a gauge of future sales. I myself got the benefit of Cathe's BB series Timesaver before getting the others (it's a great stand alone too). Then too I did a lot of hers from TV, although I have to say they were more or less bought & paid for with my Direct TV subscription.

Not sure though why the lack of clips in the beginning? I saw the Peak infomercial, couldn't really get a lot from that about overall music, etc. the individual moves part though was really good. Rushfit has the preview of each disc, short but pretty good. Youtube is good for those montage type clips that give an idea of what it's like the whole way through.

One other thing about the systems (or individual DVDs), is people who have already completed it. Before video clips I would read many reviews from many sources to see if something would fit my needs, the Collage site, VF reviews, blogs, testimonials. Often the information in these & a good description to begin with is what, like word of mouth, will sell it to me.

I had a look at this the other day. I'm glad I found out that those are the same DVDs I've already bought otherwise I'd have been very unhappy! I don't quite understand why someone would release two DVDs that they're going to include in a set. If you know you're going to do that from the start why not just wait and release the set. Then if there's demand, you can release the individual DVDs at a higher price later
The only way round it I can see would be to offer two versions of the set, one with everything and one without the two DVDs.

I have been following this since the originals were put out from her FB pages. So what I have gathered, is she created the first 2 likely with the intent of creating a set of peak 10 videos if these did well, and they were a pretty big hit. So when she announced she would be filming a peak 10 series, it seemed like she intended to sell it herself like the other dvds, and originally had said there would be some kind of concession for those who already bought the first 2 dvds, like a rebate, or coupon, nothing specific mentioned though. Then somewhere along the process, she decided to have this other company manage and distribute the set and produce the infomercial, it was at that time she seemed to lose all control over the distribution and pricing.

It seems to me this other company is more interested in the wide spread distribution possibilities and not as concerned about the sales lost to existing customers who will not rebuy the same dvds. I would be very curious to find out if their theory is right. I really like Michelle, and I'm not turned off of her and will look to buy the set on ebay at some point, but I just don't like how this was all handled.

Dela, I totally agree. Could have been handled better.

As for the two previous releases being offered to a different audience, well I disagree: these same two DVDs have been re-filmed with new cast but it is the same workout. Same workout, same appeal.

Believe it or not a lot of people don't even know exercise DVDs exist. A little over a year and a half ago I didn't. Other than the odd infomercial. And yes, generally, if you aren't involved in any regular exercise program they look odd. Infomercials of the past often looked like wild claims. The yo-yo diets. Cheap.

I didn't know who Cathe was (or Gilad or anyone else) until I saw them on TV. It was only after Wii Fit, & Wii My Fitness Coach that I thought of even trying any of Cathe's, and only then because you could use a step with MFC.
I still think the original Wii My Fitness coach was one of the best things I ever did. Still have it & use it.

It's only recently that shows like Biggest Loser, game programs like Wii Fitness brought exercising by disc/TV into the main stream. Even these programs wouldn't necessarily bring people into the exercise DVD market.
For a long time I wouldn't even watch Biggest Loser for the mocking title.
I wouldn't like those kind of trainers either. Bullies.

While I do agree, putting out the exact same routine with different cast members is double dealing, think of it this way, if you had been lukewarm on the first two, you at least would know not to purchase the set. (she should have made good on the trade in for previous customers if she said in the beginning she would, regardless)

Customer Service is still king in my book, if you get the run around with that or someone who won't admit, the truth, encourages false advertising & generally talks out of both sides of the mouth for another sale, then that's not the product to company for me.
