MIC QUESTION

Hi All,

Would MIC video be a good one to go for if you wanted 2 shorter workouts to compliment strength days ? So for example, if you were doing MIS, and wanted to slot on a bit of cardio, then you could compliment the strength work with say the hi/lo portion of MIC ?

Thanks,

Anna :)

Yes! I often split MIC into two separate workouts, the hi/lo section is about 30 min, the step section about 35 min. Remember to add your own warmup to the step section b/c it doesnt have its own warmup. I also will add just the step section of Body Max onto a strength tape since it's pretty intense, but relatively short in length.

Thanks Stacey :)

Can the hi/lo section of MIC be done at a more low impact pace for the first few times ? I have heard some horrific things about the cardio section of MIC !

Thanks

Anna :)

Hi Anna

Yes it can you can modify I normally do the whole vid but I am finding that I am modifying less and less.

It is intensity tape I am going to get my sister to do it from the warmup to the medium intensity section.

Yes, I do think so. The hi/lo is about 33 min., and it's a good compact amt of time. Word of warning, though: You might want to do MIC first because I think you might be in pain if you exhaust your muscles with weights prior to this workout. It's super intense.
Fun though, definitely worth getting. Oh, and the step portion is a lot of fun, too. Great routine (what I've finished of it, since usually I can't finish - too fried ;) )

Edited to reply to your second question:
I think it would be hard to modify the hi/lo and still keep the intended intensity of the workout intact. It does rely a lot on hi/lo jumping - it's fundamental to the whole style of the workout. But having said that, you could try lower versions of the moves and probably still get a decent workout (especially if you plan to do weights the same day). I've never modified it down completely, so this is an educated guess. It also depends on your fitness level and where you are at.

Anna:

yes, it's a perfect combination. The hi/lo is 28 minutes, just enough. Then, cool down on your own and start lifting. I have done this and it feels good. I love hi/lo and I have huge stamina for that sort of thing, so I have enough energy to lift afterwards. Hi/lo never hits me in the legs, just in the stamina department.

But if you are having to modify to get through the hi/lo section, you may not have the energy you need after wards to lift weights. Maybe you would be better on those days to either give the hi/lo your all and do it as is, or choose another tape, say Step Heat, at moderate intensity and then do MIS.

For sure, Step heat would not leave your legs too tired to do a muscle endurance workout afterwards. MIC hi/lo, if you are really gunning it, just might.

Hi Anna,

I would have to disagree that making some of the moves lower-impact takes away from the intensity, as it all depends on your fitness level to begin with. Yes, MIC is definitely a high-impact workout, but I have successfully managed to modify most of the moves to lower-impact and still gotten a really good, heart-thumping workout. Bear in mind, doing Cathe workouts at lower impact can be alot harder than doing most other instructors high-impact!! This is because Cathe tends to use a very fast tempo and keeps the various aerobic movements moving along at a good pace (not alot of repetition).

There are some high-impact moves that I can manage and there are some that I have to modify, simply because they are too much on my knees or back (or sometimes it's because the moves are so quick, my body and boobs start moving in opposite directions, which can be uncomfortable for me and downright dangerous for anyone else in the close vicinity!!!). However, modifying where needed has been the case for me with all Cathe's workouts, and I can honestly say, even making these "modification allowances", I am fitter, stronger and have more endurance than ever before!

I haven't done MIC for a while, but I always split it up, doing either the hi/lo or step followed by either upper or lower body strength work. This has worked well for me.

Hope this helps!

Kaz.

Yes, MIC is a great workout to split into 2 shorter cardio workouts. I am currently using MIC over two days with PS series. One section of MIC with each of the upper body PS workouts. Then on LLA day I do no cardio.
But, as mentioned above, remember to do a warm up before the step portion.
I still like to do MIC in its entirety at other times. It is versitile!
