Metabolic Training Question

Hi Cathe - and anyone else who can help!

I have heard the term "metabolic" training used a lot lately, and my lame internet searching has not really helped. I feel like I am simply reading definitions for circuit and interval training with a new name. But I'm hearing this term a lot. For example, Jillian on Biggest Loser was having one of her trainees do a push-up with a ball in some fashion and said "Now THAT is metabolic training." Yet I couldn't see that it was really any different from any of the training we are doing with your videos.

Can you direct me to web sites or books or something that tells me what this is in enough detail that I understand it? How is this different from what we are doing? Or is it? Am I right to assume that your videos are "metabolic" training?

Thanks so much for any assistance you (or anyone else) can give me!

I'll offer only an opinion: without even bothering to Google the term, it strikes me as nothing more than one more tiresome, meaningless buzzword, which the "fitness industry" (emphasis on the word "industry") is notorious for creating. Save your time and energy for preparing for the new Shock Cardio series!

Hey Lisa!

First off, LOVE the Janeway quote. Total trekker here. :)

Second, try this link, it gives a basic rundown.

It's nothing new. This is how The Firm started, using the same principles. Jari Love uses the same techniques. Cathe does, too. MRT is a complex way to describe burning fat through weight training while preventing muscle loss. To people who haven't spent decades working in fitness, it seems like a new concept.

I have to admit, the term dazzled me until I realized I've already been doing MRT! :D:p Ketttlebells is MRT too!

I was, too! The more I read about it, the more I realized it was the same old thing. Excellent point about KBs. Those have been around for a long long time.

Well this is good news! I thought I was crazy every time I read about it - it seems like I had been doing it. And I have been!

I started with the Firm back in the days of Volume 1!!! I think when I got it - it cost $50 and was in a clam shell case. They only had three volumes at that time.

Thanks everyone!
