Okay, so I'm on vacation and still trying to at least be somewhat careful about what I eat. Usually, for breakfast I have oatmeal (instant) or, when it warms up, cold cereal, right now it's Fiber One Raisin Bran and that's it other than my coffee.
Well, my flight got in at midnight and by the time I got to my Mom's house, washed up and brushed my teeth, bedtime was 1 a.m. I was awake at 7 a.m., got a bath and started to fix my breakfast. I had two scrambled eggs with a little salt, pepper and sweet curry spice, one slice of whole grain toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter, a small glass of OJ and my coffee. Double the calories of what I usually eat for breakfast.
Here's what happened:
We drove four and a half hours to Macon, GA and checked in to out hotel around 3:30 p.m. We got settled in our rooms and I decided to change and go workout. After a long flight, very little sleep, and a long drive, I still had a ton of energy! I did 35 mins. on the treadmill, not much, I know, but I was able to run for a full minute at 6.5, which, again, I know isn't really "running," but for me that was progress. So, I did 1 minute running, then 4 minutes at a 4.0 walk and a 4.0% grade for 30 mins. As I went, I found I could run just a teeney bit longer each time. Afterwards, I worked with a fe weights and to my surprise, I was able to handle heavier weights than I had usually used in a regular gym routine!
My major question is this: Was it the change in the morning meal that gave me all that energy? I usually have carbs, but I mostly had protein this morning. Any ideas out there?
I was happy to see the strength progress and improvement in cardiovascular endurance. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to work my way up to a real run someday!
