ME - Medicine ball?

I'm about to start on an ME "rotation", which means I'll do nothing but ME for strength training for a couple of weeks. I haven't really done this workout before, and I don't have a medicine ball. For those familiar with the workout, do you think I'll miss the medicine ball or do I need to buy yet another piece of equipment to decorate my living room? (It hardly even looks like a living room anymore! :( )

Thanks.

I might be wrong, but I think one of the girls shows a modification with a Dumbbell in ME. So I think substituting a dumbbell would work out fine for you. I think they use a 8 lb medicine ball. I know myself I have substituted dumbbells in place of the medicine ball when I wanted to go heavier....:)...Carole

Nancy:

I've done it many times without medicine bal, just with dumbell: I can't see any problem with this at all! it works just fine.

BUT: I want to purchase a medicine ball to use with the new Tracie Long workouts: so can anyone tell me where to get them at a good price?

Thanks,

Clare

Well clare, I bought mine at walmart.com I think it was 16 dollars plus s/h ... came by ups.......... it is 10 lbs ..... Rhonda

Nancy, I've been doing the ab work in ME since summer last year and I've never used a medicine ball. An 8-lb. DB works just fine. I follow Lorraine in this segment as she's the one who shows the modifications. I have a small workout space and try to make do with what I have. More equipment will only make my space smaller.:)

Speaking of ME and the ab section, medicine ball or not...who can actually do those oblique side raises? I was falling on my hip, could not even do one rep!! Is there a secret to doing these? I thought my core was somewhat strong but... I guess not! x(

Thank you so much for saying that, I thought I was really wimpy because I could not complete one rep, I guess I have very little core strength, I will keep trying though. Any Ideas anyone?
Sherry

Don't bother with the medicine ball. You can easily use an 8lb. dumbell. I am personally sick of the "latest" pieces of equipment that are used in the workouts. I hate the stability ball and am sure it will go by the weighside and never to re-imurge in anyone's newly released workouts.

The thing that helps me is staggering my legs - instead of stacking them, I have my top leg in front on the floor. And don't use the medicine ball/weight on your side to start - work up to that.

I have a fairly strong core - I've been taking two Pilates classes a week for six months to strengthen my core and help with a lower-back disc problem - and I still find those side-raises challenging.

That ME abs session kicks my butt every time....

I have a pretty weak core but those oblique raises are one of her easier core/ab moves for me. I don't think I'm doing them wrong either, because I can really feel them and I keep my legs stacked like Cathe. I don't know what the secret is, but a couple of people on the "Push-Up Weenie" thread noted that, although their core is their trouble spot, they have no problem with oblique moves. Go figure!

Hey! I have an idea! Let's hijack another one of Nancy's threads!}(

(At least she got her question answered this time.)

And Nancy, I've been doing ME for a long time and don't own a med ball. I don't want more equipment either!:)

Thanks ladies! I love new equipment, but not if there's nowhere to put it. I'll happily use a dumbbell. :)

Running out of space in New York,
Nancy

Darn it! I wanted to get in here and repeat the exact same advice just one more time! You don't need a medicine ball for ME. OK, I said it.

Thank you! I feel all blinky and shy now. Some day when I'm feeling depressed and despairing, I'll ask you to ask me another easy question and it'll make my day. OK?
