Oh, I am loving this thread and all these great stories! Christine - I met my uh, BF? SO? (I'm acronym ignorant - boyfriend, significant other?) at the very end of my match membership. I kept missing the renewal deadline and it would just renew itself.
I met a couple of very interesting guys who were not right for me, and emailed with a bunch of others, some sweet sounding men who would surely be right for someone. But, there are certainly plenty of yahoos out there.
Something I did when I wasn't up to actually conversing with people was "hide" my profile and just go online to "shop for men". I would see guys on there over many months change their profiles around so that you wondered who they were actually describing.
I used it as an opportunity to be really honest about who I am, what I look like, what I want. My BF says it's my honesty that drew him to contact me in the first place.
But, I admit, he is one of those very, very rare genuinely good hearted men. They are out there, but tough to find.
So, this was all more than 4 years ago and, if I had to do it all again, I think I would give it another try. It takes patience, and you must have your Bull-hooey Detection Meter turned all the way up, but I think it's a great way to reach out to find someone.
Sorry to go on and on! Best of luck to all who are out there searching!
