Massive weight loss

Cathlete
Due to the almost death of my son and other stresses in my life, I have lost about forty pounds. I am not too skinny yet, as I am 5'2" tall and I weigh about 109. I have a muscular body frame, and I am actually eating eggs cooked with olive oil now. I also want to caution everybody here about breast implants, because my doctor made me too big, and I am a 34 double D now. They pull on my neck and chest, and they cause considerable pain.

I don't want to be like my mother who ate a diet lunch every day, and she weighed 83 pounds when she died of cancer. I just started working out again, and it felt good to get the blood flowing, but I don't want it to cause me to lose more weight. Hence, the eggs and olive oil. I am also anemic again, and I can't get a word out of my doctors; they never call me back. My white blood cell count was also way out of whack. Things should be better now since I am taking Slow Fe Iron pills, and I am trying to eat better. Thanks for reading.

Eggs and olive oil are diet food. They will probably make you lose weight. Healthy carbs from fruit or (I don't like them myself. I prefer the fruit.) whole grains will help keep some weight on your frame.

Btw, I think you qualify as skinny;)

I don't think you are in any danger of becoming as thin as your mother was, cancer is known to cause wasting away. One of the symptoms of cancer is a very quick weight loss.

I'm sorry your doctors aren't being responsive. I have not had real good luck with those people.

I have to force myself to eat

I have to force myself to eat, and I am doing so. With no appetite, it is quite difficult Does not the olive oil have a great deal of calories? I put quite a bit into the eggs. I never want to get like my mother. She was deathly thin before she had cancer, and she thought it was great.

is your appetite missing because of depression?
i wish i could be helpful. i think i would have put on many pounds in that situation. everyone is different. i'm sorry for your loss. i wish i could be helpful. it sound like your mom may have had an eating disorder. it's good that you can recognize a possible problem.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest you see a hematologist. You are saying your blood counts are off and your PCP probably doesn't understand them enough. I had surgery in May. I dropped down to 108 then (also 5'2"). After finding out from my gynecologist that they wanted to transfuse me during surgery but couldn't because of an antibody detected in the screening. I took this to my PCP who knew nothing of it. Suggested a hematologist and I can't even begin to tell you how much I have learned (and I am a RN for 19 years). My counts are finally on track and boy can I tell the difference.
If that doesn't sound like your situation, I would look at the depression issue? I have to be honest with you: I am the same height and am best at 110. I have a small bone structure though.
I definately don't think you have the same prob as your mother.

Thank you, Wendy.

I have to see if my insurance has hemotologists. I am down another pound today, and it is getting frightening. I am just going to do stretching and yoga and some upper body work, and I am not doing cardio.

Thank you, Mom

It is more stress than depression. My friend just told me he isn't going to feel sorry for me when I end up very sick. I don't think that is right of him.

Four years ago, I was very sick with anemia, and it was so bad that my daughter, who is an RN, said I could have gone into renal and breathing failure. I also have a small to medium bone structure with small hands and feet, but with broader shoulders.

My insurance

My insurance does cover hematology, and there is one right near me. Thank you for the advice. Wendy, I am about 110 now, and I don't want to go any lower. My ribs stick out as it is.

I also wanted to add that I hope everything is okay with your son.

It sounds like there have been a lot of stresses in your life lately, which can lead to depression, a sign of which is loss of appetite.

I hope your son is alright now.

Yes, Olive oil (and any oil) is 100% fat, with 9 calories per gram. It has some nutritional benefits, but not as much as other high-calorie foods. IMO, a healthier way of adding calories is with whole foods that are higher in fat, like avocados and nuts and seeds (seeds are usually higher in protein and a bit lower in fat than nuts).

Other higher-calorie options are smoothies made with frozen bananas (and other fruit and/or veggies).

Are you sure you mother was thin "before " she had cancer, or was it just before she was diagnosed? Cancer really eats away at the body (my father died of colon cancer, and was extremely thin at the end).

I gained about five pounds, and I am taking Slow FE iron pills every day. I feel stronger now, and I was able to do an hour and a half workout today. Thank you all for your suggestions. My son is doing great now.

Is your white cell count still up or did it return to normal?

Elevated white cell counts can be caused by an infection.

Thank God

My son is fine now. All he has is a torn ligament in his shoulder from trying to get out of bed. He is big and strong for his age, and he also lifts weight, and I hope his torn ligament get better soon.
