Mapping out fitness goals...2011

Wow!! December is upon us so with only one more page turn on the calendar before the 2011 arrives I think it is time to map out some new fitness goals!:D

I'm glad I'm starting a little earlier than ususal this year as I really need to give this some thought...will I run my first full marathon now that I have three half's under my belt? Will I aim for a personal best on 5k's? Will I give the Martial Arts a try? Will I cycle through a new dvd series??

So many exciting choices...not about what the new year "brings"...but what I will go out there and make happen!!

Would love to hear what some of you are mapping out for yourselves!!:D:D

So many exciting choices...not about what the new year "brings"...but what I will go out there and make happen!!

This is such an inspirational statement! I really needed to read this today!

I've got a ton of fitness DVD's, but tend to use the same ones over and over again. One of my goals is to revisit them all this coming year, somehow trying to fit them all into a giant rotation.:D

My biggest goal is to run a 5K. This is pretty huge for me because I'm not a runner...but I feel like I need to push myself out of my comfort zone. I've just got to find some shoes that don't make my toes hurt!! (consider that another goal!!)

I was actually putting MY list together last night.

I have a lot of events on my calendar already:

  • January - Winter Trail Series 10 miler
  • February (beginning) – Super Bowl Sunday 10K (going for a PR in this distance)
  • February (end) - Winter Trail Series Half Marathon
  • April – Tough Mudder (THIS event scares me the most! LOL)
  • May (beginning) – Half Marathon (this is what I call my 'signature event' and am going for a PR on this course)
  • May (mid-month) – Run for the Red Marathon, Pocono Pines PA
  • June – Warrior Dash, Jim Thorpe PA
  • October – Hershey Half Marathon
  • October – Marine Corps Marathon, Arlington VA (assuming I get in on registration day)
  • November - NYC ING Marathon (my 1st year in the lottery, so I'm not expecting to get pulled, but ya never know)
I'm tired, just proof reading my list! ;) ;) ;)

Gayle....wow...you have a lot of great races planned for 2011!!

I did my first 1/2 marathon in November and now I'm hooked. I have 3 planned for next year. One is in March and the other 2 are in November. I'm planning to do a 15K at the end of January and a bunch of other races scattered throughout the year. I usually try to do at least 2 a month. I plan to concentrate on longer distances this year...mainly 10K and up but I will do a couple of 5Ks that are my favorites.

I am also starting STS this month that will carryover into the beginning of next year.

I LOVE reading all our goals. I really do!!! Thanks for sharing them. I know I'll be adding to mine, too. I did my first Sprint Tri this past September and plan on doing 2 or 3 next season. I'm also getting into duathlons and can't wait to do my first one of those too!

I justed mapped out a giant rotation for all the dvd's I have. If I do not do any system (e.g. Pure Strength, Firm Classics, P90X+, Insanity, etc.) for longer than two weeks, I can work out for 1.7 years with no rest breaks and no repeats.

The only thing I really have on my list at the moment is the Chicago Marathon 2011.

I did my first half this summer, and really want to try a full. Scared out of my mind. I have a good running day and think "I am SO going to sign up when it opens" then I have a *meh* running day and think "There is no way I'm going to sign up"

Training for the half was tough (it was hot and muggy this summer) and I don't know that I want to repeat that experience. But the "WOW, I DID IT" factor at the end was a huge high.

Waffling, waffling waffling......

I'm starting my 4th round of STS in Jan doing an undulating rotation this time. Looking forward to Insanity Asylum as well. But nothing quite set in concrete yet.

I don't really have specific events or anything. My major health and fitness goal is to find balance, both mentally and physically. Right now that means experimenting and thinking my way through a lot of old beliefs and preferences that don't seem to be working. It also means letting myself relax more - as in going with the flow instead of sticking to a set workout schedule no matter what.

Great stuff!

I enjoy reading everyone's fitness/race plans and goals. :)

This is mine (subject to change as some of the races haven't posted exact dates and I'm
just going according to what they've done in the past).

As a new runner, you all are giving me great aspirations for 2011.

Yay, LOVE new runners enthusiasm. :) Keep it up! :)

Nan, You can do way more than you think you can. :) I have those days "during training"
for a race almost every time so don't let that stop you from getting to the start line. :)

Kathy...........I've said this before...we live TOO close to each other to have NOT YET gotten together! Assuming MY number doesn't get picked for NYC, maybe I'll sign up to volunteer, or at least come up and cheer for YOU!!!!!!!! As for your "On my Feet for 24 hours" goal....I WALKED over 30 miles for our Relay For Life team this past summer....WALKED.....in a 24 hour period (and I slept in our tent for about 5 hours AND my kids were with me the whole time)...so.....I'm sure you can hit YOUR goal of running 50!

Shereta/Nan....it truly IS amazing what sheer will power and some positive self talk can do for you!!! The combination of those 2 things can take you places you NEVER imagines! DO IT!!!!!!!!

Gayle,
Wow, AWESOME job on the walk! They do a Relay for Life at the High School track down the road from me. I should look into it! How great was that that you were able to do it with your boys! :)

Yes, we should do something together (half maraton maybe?) You'd have to slow down for this old lady, though...lol.

The Back On My Feet 24 hour run is such an awesome event. It's to benefit the homeless in Philadelphia (and now several more cities). How it got started is pretty inspiring, if you ever have chance google it. :) Anyway, this is my third year doing it (first year I hit my goal....50 miles, got a neat little plaque, lol....last year I only made it 42+ miles because the heat was UNBEARABLE!) The sun was beating down on us during the day and I thought it would cool off at night but it actually got muggier because there wasn't a breeze at all! Whew! Oh, and my husband did it with me last year and he walked 25+ miles, which is totally amazing for him because he hardly trained at all, lol. We're doing it together again this year and he's telling me he's going to actually train and make it further.....we'll see. ;)
