Lunch/Protein Ideas

Stacy

Cathlete
I have a fast-paced job and work fairly long hours. I dont have much downtime for lunch. I do fairly well packing some raw veggies, or yogurt or string cheese and some almonds to snack on but by the end of most days I'm ravenous which for me translates into eating everything in sight and giving in to bad cravings, ie. eating a bag of chips for dinner!

I'm thinking if I add more protein during the day I wont be as ravenous later. Any ideas for some quick, eat on the go, protein sources??

Thanks!

In the lunch meat section... there are prepackaged chicken breasts. You heat in the microwave for 1 minute, They come in several flavors and are actually good.

Cut up and put on top of a salad. Or put on a artisan roll with sliced tomato for a grilled chicken sandwich.

:)

I think I know which ones you mean. If so, I should have mentioned I'm trying to stay away from processed foods, the sodium content tends to be so high! I may have to start cooking fresh chicken breasts the night before, however I'm also trying to not make more work for myself!

Stacy,
I cook several chicken breasts at one time, cut them into individual portions, and freeze them. It's easy to pull one out of the freezer in the morning and pack it in with your lunch.
I boil a few eggs and keep them in the fridge. Toss one (or two) in your lunch bag and you're ready to go.

Hi Stacy!

My "go to" breakfast right now (that will also work for lunch or a snack) is 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup high protein granola (I use Bear Naked Protein Power but plan to experiment making my own high protein granola), and 1/2 cup blueberries. This packs close to 30 grams of protein depending on the brand of Greek yogurt you use. If I eat this at 8:30 a.m. I'm usually not hungry until 12:30/1:00. I put the yogurt and blueberries in a glass container with a lid and pre portion my granola so when it's time to eat I simply dump the granola on the yogurt/berries and start munching. :) HTH!

Hi there Stacy,

Do you like cream of wheat? They have instant packages that are approx 80cal. I usually combine the cream of wheat with 1/2 scoop of vanilla whey protein and 1 tbs of any nut butter. Add boiling water (or milk if you want it more substantial) and viola! It's a very yummy breakfast or snack.

Edamame is very nutritious and packs a protein punch.

Ryvita whole wheat bread snacks w/laughing cow light spreadable cheese.

And my personal fav, peanut butter & banana wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. You can make it low cal by choosing a smaller wrap. Did you know this was Elvis' favorite sandwich?

Hope this helps!

Canned/pouched tuna; hard boiled eggs; if you make a batch of quinoa and toss it wish veg/fruit/whatever you can portion that out in totables for lunch;

Maybe you need a good snack half way between lunch and dinner. How about nuts? I love pistachios. Also, if I want something sweet I reach for the new dark chocolate dusted almonds. You can have 24 for 110 calories and 5 grams of protein. Nuts are easy to put in a baggie and have in your purse.
