Lump found

CathydsRNA

Cathlete
Yesterday morning was my annual appointment with my gyn and she found a lump in my right breast. It is about the size of a pea and is very hard and discrete. I have tests scheduled over the next week but in the meantime I am starting to get disturbed. Has anyone had anything like this that has turned out to be nothing to worry about? If so, please share your stories because I need to hear them right now.
TIA

Hi Cathy,
I'm sorry that you got this news. It's totally unsettling to WONDER if there is something more serious wrong. I sympathize with the stress and worry.

I have heard of this kind of thing being benign. I had a small lump that turned out to be a swollen mammary gland. I have two friends who had similar experiences, one had a fibroid-type lump and another, an adenoma (sp?). I know of two people through work who went through similar scares and things were ultimately fine.

I hope you can find out soon what is going on with you and be healthy and fine.
Meanwhile, distract yourself, if you can.

take care,
Barb:) :) :)

Cathy,

I have never had something like this happen, but like Barb know a few women who have, and it everything was ok. I know my Mom had a hard lump like that once and it was a calcification.

I know you're starting to get nervous as I would too. Please try to stay focused and keep busy until you go for your tests. And try as hard as you can to believe that everything will be ok no matter what.. I know that's easier said than done, but it will help.

Sending tons of HUGS and prayers your way. Just take it one day at a time. And I'm here if you ever need someone to talk to.

Cathy~

I never went through anything like this, but just wanted you to know I am praying for you.

Stay strong.:)

Cathy,

It hasn't happened to me, but a few years ago my sister found a slightly larger lump on her left breast, which was much like you describe (very hard). However, it turned out to be benign (sp.?). My stepmother has had several small places removed which also were non-cancerous. I had one on my left breast that had been there forever, and it was right near the surface of the skin-- I'd shown it to every doctor I've ever been to, and they all told me it's nothing to worry about. It finally went away.

Hugs your way!!!!!

L

Cathy,
Although I haven't had the experience either, I too have read most are benign. I know that is really not much to hold onto right now, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cathy,

Two years ago my gyn found a small lump in my right breast also. He sent me for a mamogram and an ultrasound. They decided even though they felt it was going to be okay, to take it out, probably mainly due to my history. I have thyroid cancer on the right side of my neck, which was dx'ed almost 9 years ago -which has proven to be stubborn to always find and treat and I tend to have nodes pop up from time to time that need to be removed. So there was a little panic there and they moved swiftly and I had it removed in a simple, outpatient procedure. Like they thought , it was benign (and unrelated to my thyca) and I healed quickly and today can't even find the scar.

I was told most times lumps in the breast ARE benign, so please try not to worry too much. (easier said than done, I know)

Please let us know how you are doing and feeling this week and if I can help answer any questions, I'll sure try, and you can email or PM me if you'd like.

Thanks everyone. I'm strating to feel somewhat better after hearing all your stories. I shall try to keep myself very busy this weekend to keep my mind off it. I shall keep you posted. Thanks again.:)

hi Cathy!

My sister and I have both been through this, up to and including mammograms. In both cases it was nothing but some pesky fibrous tissue. turns out I come from a family of lumpy-breasted women! :)

Don't worry. Chances are it's nothing.

Cathy, I have had this happen twice. The first time was a lump that I found, the second was found by my doctor during an exam, both times I went for ultrasound and mammogram. I was more worried when my doctor found it and was so concerned because it was a fixed lump and not very mobile. It is so nerve wracking to be in the inbetween stage whether it is waiting for tests or waiting for results. Both times I was consumed and distracted with wondering and worrying, how could we not be.....my mind would go from one extreme to the other. Happily both times the results were in my favour and the grey veil clouding my thoughts lifted immediately. I think keeping busy is the best way to curb your completely understandable worry.

We'll be thinking of you and looking forward to hearing that all is well:)

Take Care

Thoughts, prayers and hugs are with you. I had to go back for a mamo (due to calcification) and know how scary it is. all good things being sent your way.

TIA

I found a lump a few months ago - had a mammogram & ultra sound and everything was fine. The other day I found another one in a different spot on the same side, so I am waiting until Monday to see my doctor. I keep telling myself not to worry and it will be ok just like before. My lumps (the other one and this one) are on the surface, about the size of a pea - I can see them. I hope everything turns out ok for you - keep us posted.

We can worry together.:)

my grandmother had two scares like this and just turned out to be cysts. she went through surgeries and all to remove them but when they did the biopsies it was nothing. i will be keeping you in my prayers that it will be nothing of concern.

Hi Cathy.

So sorry to hear this. I hope everything will turn out absolutely fine for you!!!

My mom, many years back when I was a child, had a lump in her breast. It was taken out and found to be benign and she has never had a reoccurance since....I don't have any details about it but I hope this helps a bit.

Take it easy.

Hi Cathy,

I have never had this experience myself either, but I wanted to know that I am sending many good vibes your way. I will be thinking of you and praying for you :).

Cath :)

Cathy,

Hugs for you and I will keep you in my prayers. I've never been through this but I do know that the odds ARE in your favor that this is just a benign lump. Hang in there and please keep us posted.

I need to make a correction to my post from earlier today. I addressed to TIA only to realize your name is Cathy - Oops! I'm very sorry. :( I hadn't had my coffee yet.:)

Hi Cathy -

This actually did happen to me a few years ago. I was so stressed about it. Telling my children was so hard. It was truly an emotionally charged experience.

Before the biopsy, they wanted to locate the lump and did a mammogram and didn't find the lump. They proceeded to put me in every position under the sun to do a mammogram that would locate the lump. Standing, sitting, lying on a gurney, etc. After 45 minutes of this, they just couldn't find it. They figured that it was a cyst that compressed and dispursed the fluid with the first compression.

I went home with no surgery and no lump. My DH and I just burst into tears of relief.

I sincerely hope and pray your outcome is equally happy. I will be thinking and praying for you, so please keep us posted. I truly feel your pain.

Margaret

Cathy,

I personally haven't experienced this (yet), but it's a terrifying prospect. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope it turns out to be nothing. Keep us posted on how it goes.

All the best,
Sandra
