lower abs

Cathe,

I just recently purchased your videos (kick max / muscle max / core max) and I love them all. However, I am having troubles with the lower ab hip lifts. I am not sure if it is because I am not strong enought yet or what. I am also not sure how to perform them, as I always feel that I am doing more 'swinging' than 'lifting.' How do I know if I am doing them right??

Help!

Jut an answer for you .Cathe must be buisy or missed it. I had a hard time with them at 1st. They are tough. I did every other one and went a little slower to really work my abs.Especially when she goes 8 more and 8 more..
Take breaks , do what you can. Somedays i can do them . Some not.Eventually you will...

I don't usually answer other people's questions to Cathe, but here is my experience:

I think when starting out doing any kind of lower ab work, it is natural to feel like you're doing more swinging than actual lifting because you probably are. As you get stronger you will notice your legs stay steadier and your abs do more of the work. When that happens, you can really work at engaging the muscles.

kblover: I have the same exact issue! My core is the weakest area of my body, and even though I've been strength training with Cathe for over 7 years now, I still struggle with lower ab exercises. I fatigue easily in that area, and I can't seem to do the isometric holds--my lower back starts to get really sore!! I started incorporating lower back work to balance things out and that's helped a ton, but I still have a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go in getting strong enough to do those lower ab exercises with perfect form, and it will be even longer before I am able to get through all of the reps.

All,

Thanks a lot for the replies, I was beginning to think I'd never get it. I, like you Jennifer, have been training for a long time, but when I started the Cathe videos, I found a LOT of weak areas. I think that the fitness field today tends to cater to people, meaning that they do exercises that you can do more than push you to another level. I like the challenge of Cathe's video's and knowing that I will get it, with persistence, motivates me to keep going.

Thank you!

Same here. I have her DVD for Basic Step and when she does the reverse crunches, you are suggested that if they are too hard (and they are) to stop and join her for a couple more later.
