Lower Abs pooching out from overwork? Help?

>Candi, After reading this article, I am sick about how many
>calories he said to eat. 10 x body weight. Anyhow, I can't
>imagine how that would be enough calories to not feel starving
>all day. Any thoughts? Melissa

There is no way an active individual could survive on such a low amount. As soon as I saw that in the article, I pretty much dismissed anything else he had to say.

And do we *really* want to look like Britney?? Especially amusing were all the sexist comments added at the end of the article. I feel sorry for any women associated with those men.

Can you guys recall when cathe recently addressed the 'pulling in the abs' issue? I'd like to read it. Thanks!

I have to say, that I think my abs started pooching more lately too. I have added more ab routines during the week. I think my problem is that I am contracting my abs too much on some of the lower ab moves rather than sucking them in. So, I am now backing off ab work. Melissa

I would highly recommend you buy Tracey Staehle's Core Conditioning & Strength dvd. Its an ab workout that's 50 min. but you can split it up into 2 different workouts. Tracey is certified in pilates & teaches you how to "imprint" correctly. The moves are very subtle & tiny not at all like you do in Cathe's ab work. The exercises are challenging due to stabilizing. This works the muscle very well & quickly. I only work my abs 3x a week. Its a muscle & needs time to recover just like the rest of your body.

I think I agree with the increased weight training to help get rid of the "fat" pooch, not the "overworked pooch". And, I also think that your abs definitely get a great workout when you lift heavier weights - upper or body because you usually tighten everything anyway to support the lifting.

Sounds like everyone is overworking their abs and when you lay off the pooch is fixed. Yeah! Seems so simple. I have definitely been trying to strengthen the core, abs and back too.

One of the posts referred to trying to strength the back by strengthening the abs. I u/s what you are saying, but then you should focus on the back exercises, double arm rows (which get to my lower back by the third set usually) and bent over rows and even lifts. Hope this helps
