Lower Abdominals

I've been working out for a few years now. I have two children the last one is four years old. He was a little larger than the first one. My question is this, does anyone else have a persistent lower pouch. The uppper abs come along fine but the lower I'am having trouble with. Is it a question more of diet or just persistence? My first delivery was a cesarean, could that make a difference? Any suggestions on what to do?:) :) :) :)

I sure do! uggh. After my first child I came back fine but the second was a c-section and I think they stitched some permanent fat in there! My upper abs are finally getting decent and I even have nice visible obliques but that little pooch bump will not go away. It is the very last place for the fat to hang on. I have strong abs, and I know they are awesome under that fat (hehe) so for me it isn't the exercise. I think the trick to getting that spot is clean eating in the right amounts. So yes, I think it is diet. Diet is the hard part for me. I eat pristine clean most of the time but it seems I throw in a few bad choices every day, and I know where they all go.

Hi,

same exact thing here. Two children, first delivery cesarean, and I do have that pouch in my lower abdominal. I should mention that abs is also where I gather my fat first in any case, which of course doesn't help the problem. I exercise regularly, consider myself farely fit and eat I pretty clean. I'm slowly pretty happy about my upper abs, but not much has happened with the lower part even though I do know there's some muscle there somewhere...;)) I've noticed that the tissue just above the scar seems to be the first to retain fluids, so if I eat unhealthy, anything that gathers fluids in general (TTOM, salty foods, tired etc.)it shows up there first. That is sort of depressing, because not much can be done I suppose, but on the bright side, at least it's not fat. I feel like the tissue around the scar is more "dead", and so it retains water quite easily. I don't know how much losing some weight would help this, I suppose there's some extra fat there too, but I'm 5'4 and about 112 pounds, so I don't feel like I want to lose that much more. I'd love to hear some other experiences about this too.

I've had 4 pregnancies and 2 c-sec. deliveries and had the same issues. I was injured and my old c-section scar became herneated and so I needed to have it fixed. I decided to go ahead and have it fixed by a plastic surgeon and get a mini tummy tuck at the same time. She removed a moon-shaped bit of skin and took out the fat (though there was really not that much, but having it gone makes a BIG difference) and its better than highschool now! FLAT, FLAT, FLAT! So, good news, bad news... if it really depresses you, it can be taken care of. If you need to have any other surgery anyway, I HIGHLY recommend it. You might try a really concentrated ab rotation first, though. That has worked VERY well for me with other areas that I was unhappy with- like thighs and hips. My main problem w/ lower abs was VERRRRY stretched out skin.

Thanks for the quick response from you and from everyone else. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. You may be right about there being some scar tissue in there. I am begginning to think that there is only so much abdominal work you can do. Although it gets to me i can't really afford to have surgery. After having a c-section I know that area takes a while to heal. Thanks for all the imput, I really appreciate it. Guess I'll stick to exercise and keeping as clean a diet as possible.:)

Hi Mic
I don't know if this is anything you would be interested in, but this thing does target the lower abs, thinking of getting one myself.

because many of us cannot afford plastic surgery.......

Ooops...I'm sorry! I don't mean to make anyone feel bad. I never would have thought it was an option for me either for $ reasons, "cheater" reasons, etc. Since it did become available to me for about an additional $1900, I decided to do it. I've been so pleased and surprised that I've told everyone. I'm sorry if it made you feel bad, though.

Oh, it didn't make me feel bad. If you can do it and it what you want I don't see anything wrong with it. Obviously you do work out. If your looking good be proud of it! Thanks for the information. It was a nice doctor to tack that on for a small amount of $1900.00 I thought most tummy tucks can run around $5-8,000. So you got a nice deal and obviously the doctor did a great job! I was just looking for other options for us mothers, who don't have that option.
