Low Carbers & Friends - 3rd Qtr - 2014

Tracy, I saw pictures on FB with you, is that from the stair climb? Looking good! I think it would be good to keep doing that once a week, for variety.

Lita, I do think that the extra weight is from your muscles being pumped up with water after the longer workouts. But it is still not nice to see on the scale. I always feel bloated during the summer and don't want to step on the scale. When it's cold, I shrink back up, lol!

Rhea, we hardly walk in the summer any more because of heat and bugs. We walk more in the cooler weather. But that's where the biking comes in. Biking the last hour of light in the evening, even when it's sticky out, is very relaxing. Maybe you could give it a try.

Interview went well. She told me she'd be deciding in a couple weeks, so still have a week to wait. Fingers crossed. If I don't get it, now is flu shot season, so I can get signed up to give those at different corporate locations just to make money during this time. It will all work out either way. I will wait until the 22nd, then if they don't call from the dialysis clinic, I'm just going to get signed up for that fall work. Then I will start reapplying for full time jobs in Jan, since I will have my BSN the end of Feb.

Melinda - Fingers crossed! But so glad you have alternatives :)! You have definitely picked a great field to go in to. Hopefully there will never be a lack of work or options for you!

I love your explanation ! I, too, feel like a bloated whale in the summer . Even though I feel more 'shriveled' in the winter, then it's just too cold to want to get naked and get on the scale ! Course, I don't like the scale at anytime :p....

Hi babes! Had trouble getting here earlier but it's OK now!

I too like your explanation of muscles holding more water with longer workouts Melinda! :D And I agree with Lita, you picked a profession that is full of opportunities. Good luck on whatever you decide or get to do!

The stair climb was brutal fit babes! Holy moly! I hadn't climbed the stairs where the event was before and it turns out that they are very old. Built long before OSHA was formed! So, the steps were taller than average, steeper than average and the flights were taller. So when your body was ready to reach the top because you are used to a regular flight of stairs, they didn't and kept on going. And there were no handrails either! So, being the cautious person I am, there was no running down the stairs at all. I went as fast as I could, safely. :) Although 2 of my friends passed me, I kept up the same pace they did so I am proud of that. However, they hadn't practiced! But they are younger so that's something. It's too bad I did really well on the climb in January because I lifted my expectations for this climb and basically crashed and burned. I didn't even get in the top 5 of my age group and the woman who did the best in my age group ran a half marathon the day before. Reallly? Did I have to know that? :p And another woman in her 60s did better than I by quite a lot. Oh well! I finished, I am proud of that and will be better mentally prepared next year! And the best part about the stair climb? The awesome lunch we had outside by the water afterward. :D

I do miss bike riding. There is a wonderful trail we can go on but it's at least 20 minutes away and BB doesn't have his own bike. ;) And he's not one to want to sit in a little covered trailer, he'd rather explore. I did find an access to the forest in our area and have taken BB a couple of times. He's a good little hiker! And I get my taste of quiet nature. Can't beat that.

Lita, I am still winging the workouts, good for you having them planned! :D Maybe when the weather cools I'll be able to do that a little more. Summer just gives me more opportunities to be outdoors so I sometimes take it easier indoors.

Oh! I did the 100 rep challenges for lats, biceps, triceps and scarecrows last Friday. I went lighter on the shoulder work and it went fine. Biceps and triceps were tough! My triceps still hurt my this morning!!

Hope to see you soon Rhea!!

Have a great week sweet babes!

Tracy - So glad to "see" you ! Hmmm - maybe I should do the 100 rep challenge for a change. Gosh - I don't even remember which series that was with  I considered going back to LI or XT for a rotation but now we're getting hot and I can't imagine doing SuperCuts when it's 80 in my room !

As for the steps, I am so sorry you were disappointed in your performance :(. But it had a "steep" learning curve - pardon the pun :p - so just consider it a trial run for next year :D. I understand what you mean, though - when I look back at what I used to be able to do and all the more I can do now, it really depresses me. At least there's hope for both of us - you for training more appropriately next year for that steeper, more precarious staircase and me getting a new hip at some point :).

Hello from the outer reaches of ......dang, I wish I had that type of excuse for not being here. LOL I just haven't had time to much of anything fun lately. But I had a great new person start and she has been here for almost two weeks and I'll be able to let her loose on the courts.

I have even been very remiss in the workout department. I'm lucky if I get in one a week. But I'm starting to itch for some good ones. I just have to get a bit more motivation and I'm there.

Tracy - congrats on the stair climb even though you were disappointed....you still crushed it. :)

Melinda - fingers are crossed for that job!

Lita - I think you are probably the best behaved of all of us for the workouts. Still doing those early mornings, huh?

Well, I suppose I should get back to pretending to work. Have a great rest of the week. I will really try to get here more often. :)

Rhea - So glad you could finally pop in :D!!! And even happier that the new hire is working out so well ! Oh yes - still up and at 'em bright and early . Can't sleep anyway so might as well get up and move it, right :p?

Tomorrow is THE day so....

Happy Anniversary, Tracy!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you have a marvelous, wonderful, splendid, terrific and fabulous day !

OH!!! Have a happy anniversary Tracy!!!!! I'm so glad that Lita remembers all these things, otherwise, I would be so out of the loop! LOL

Hi babes! Thank you both Rhea and Lita for the anniversary wishes! I went to a wacky card store and got DH a card with 2 skeletons on it that says, "Until death do us part is for quitters!" It amused me. :)

Good to see you Rhea! Very happy you got a great new employee too!

Lita, the 100 rep challenge is on the XT series. 3 different discs I think.

Melinda, keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I plan to do the stair climb again next year (as long as my friends do it too) because I truly am insane and I'll be sure to keep my expectaions low.

Talk to you soon!

Well Lita, at least I'll know what I'm in for! :p

And BTW,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITA!! I hope you have a wonderful, peaceful, relaxing day!!!!

Oh crude I missed another birthday! I'm such a slacker. I'm glad you had a great wonderful relaxing quiet day. What are those anyway? I think I would have to lock all my doors and unplug or turn off all phones to get a quiet day. lol

Rhea - I think you should try it sometime ;) :D!!!!! You have that wonderful tub & jacuzzi w/ a fireplace right by it - send hubby golfing, grab a bottle of wine, disconnect from all phones/computers, etc, and take advantage of it, I say !

My oh my - maybe I need to go to bi-annual threads  :p ;)!

Hope you are all well :).

Looks like we may be getting a new forum so hopefully no one will have issues getting here when it happens. The last forum update I went through (on another site) didn't go so well ....

Anyway - thinking of you all :D!

OK, so I just looked at the last time I posted and it's been a month!!!

So I NEVER heard back from that 2 hour interview I did. I even called and they gave me the lady's cell and I left a message just checking to see if the position was filled. No response, so since it's been the end of July when I did the interview, that's a done deal. AND then 3-4 weeks ago I got contacted by my old screening company (I still do per diem work for them) and they asked if I'd be interested in contracting with them FT this fall. So I said yes and they said they'd get back with me. NOTHING. I just don't get this, I didn't even call them, they called me. They said they'd like to get it filled mid Sept. Well, hello, look at the date. This has become the norm for companies now, if you have not tried to get a job lately. My story is not isolated to me, I hear it all the time. I just lose a lot of respect when no one even calls back or gives some sort of reply. A friend said she was recently called by someone she had interviewed with a few months ago. .The guy left a message saying for her to call him, he wanted to discuss the position. She said she called him 4 times and left 4 messages and he never called her again.

OK, enough of that. So I've been doing the 4 day split series over the past month just to switch things up. I've also been trying to do more core work, I had neglected that. I think I'm ready to be done with that series for now. When does the new one come out? I ordered it.

Tracy, I think you did a good job with the stair climb. Just something for you to think about, how tall was the woman/women that went faster than you? You have very short legs so climbing those tall stairs would be a bigger strain possibly for you because of the angle in your hips and knees. Leg/limb length and muscle attachment in the joint all play a part as to the amount of effort it takes for someone to do a move. This is why certain exercises may be easier for some than others and why certain body types seem to dominate certain sports. If you do it again next year, take a look at the angle degree you are having in your hip and knee area. Then look at what the angle is for the faster people. Are they a lot taller than you? Even with that, some will have longer thighs than others. My husband and I are the same height but he has a longer torso and can reach higher than me. I have to push the seat back on the car a lot farther because my height is in my legs.

Lita, thanks for always monitoring our threads and keeping us informed. Sorry I have been MIA, the time got away from me. I am signed up to work a lot over the next couple months with health screenings, flu clinics, and working as the treatment nurse. December work will be slow, so got to make hay while the sun shines. Oh, and I'm taking classes as well.

Rhea, yes, try to unplug for weekend if you can!

Melinda - It's great to "see" you !!!! Doesn't it just bite how inefficient and rude people and companies are anymore ???? I never cease to be surprised at the idiocy out there ! You always have the greatest insight into different exercise issues - what you said to Tracy was spot on but something I never would've though to mention. You rock :D! Glad you're going to be getting some steady income but still hoping something more in your new field shows up for you! Any luck with DH's job hunting?

Lita, DH did an initial phone interview with a contracting company last week. They said they would contact him for a technical interview this week, but nothing yet. The job is work from home, but he'd have to either go to Nebraska or Fargo, ND for 4-6 weeks to train. That would begin mid Oct, so will be getting pretty cold. Will let you know. I am cautiously hopeful, but we have experienced this a lot, so....
