Low Carb bread

OK, today I made a sandwich with low carb bread, YUCK! We ran out of the regular bread, so I thought what the heck. My husband eats it. Being health conscious I thought I might as well make the switch. Well, there are some things you just cannot substitute.

I even made a grilled cheese for my son, and thought maybe his sandwich would taste better than mine. So, I took a little nibble.....double yuck!

The bread seems spongey (sp?) to me. Is there a better low carb bread out there? Or does it really matter if I'm only consuming 4-6 slices a week? I figure anything is OK, as long as it's in moderation.

Check out the carb counts on any 'lite' wheat breads, like Wonder bread Whole Wheat Lite. I've found that they're usually much better tasting than the regular 'low carb' breads. The labels usually tout the low fat content, but they're also high-fiber & low-carb as well. When you compare nutritional info, they have practically the same carb count as Atkins, but won't make you gag. ;)

Pepperidge Farm Lite Wheat Bread is really good and the slices are thin. I also like Cole's Low Carb Garlic Bread in loaf form.

I have found some of the Whole Wheat Extra Fiber breads to have the same amount of carbs per slice as the low carb when you deduct the fiber grams from the carb count. I think it is so much better tasting.

Hi Dallas! I usually eat either a 7-grain or 9-grain bread or Ezekiel. It needs to have at least 5g of fiber in the bread I eat high or low carb I don't care. Kathy:D

Low-carb bread? Why even bother to eat bread if you're going to have some nasty low-carb junk? Bread was MADE to have carbs - and tons of them! That's what makes "real" bread so dang tasty!

What is this world coming to? Can't even have a normal slice of bread anymore....

I love whole grain breads - so much protein and fiber that it counteracts the carb content quite nicely. They're complex carbs anyway - not like it's bad for you or anything. You're supposed to get 3 servings of whole grains per day anyway - 2 slices of whole-grain bread gets you 2/3 of the way there! :D

I agree with Bobbi and Emily. Why even eat bread if you are going "low carb"? Go for whole grains (mostly found in health food stores and coops). I like sprouted grain breads by Health for Life.

Oh thanks girls, I won't feel guilty eating my regular wheat bread. I will look into the whole grain, however. It's just that my husband has been doing his own version of Atkins, works out daily, and looks GREAT! I don't have any weight to lose, but just that darn trouble spot to tone up called the behind. Maybe I'm too critical of myself because my husband said that I'm crazy. Anyhoo, thought I'd try changing up the diet, too.

Have a good night!

Dallas:)
