Loving the cowl neck!

So glad it's back in fashion. YeahI know, really came back last year but I'm just a wee bit fashion backward. :p Hated them in the 70s, but for some reason love them now. Flattering, feminine, comfy & versatile.

Still not getting into the skinny jeans & pants though. I guess they're good for when you want to wear boots over instead of under pants, but I'm the leanest I've been in my life & I still wouldn't dare to wear them.

What are your fashion loves & hates this season?

I like the cowl neck too - gives me some fullness in my chest that I am otherwise completely lacking!

Hmmm... not sure I'm so glad they are back in. I think they look okay, but I can't stand all that material all around my chest and neck area.

any ideas on websites that give tips on clothes to flatter body types?

i'm an hourglass shape, i think. i have enough chest 'fullness' as it is. i don't think the cowlneck will ever be flattering, but everyone's different. i'm hating the leggings look. those are flattering on very few people. they either make you look worse, or make your legs look like tooth picks. i'm excited to get some boots, still not sure what kind to get. i have a leather jacket i can fit into for the first time, i had the thing for 5 years i won it in a drawing. so it's great that i can wear something that's considered cool. otherwise i'm a jeans and t-shirt girl.

I like the cowl neck too as opposed to the turtle neck partly because I hate having things snug against my neck. It gives me the heebie jeebies for some reason. Just like I love the look of choker chains but don't wear them often because it's tough for me to put up with!

Skinny jeans--NO WAY! I look horrid in them!

I love the cowl neck look too. I need to be careful what they're made out of though because if it's wool my skin gets really irritated. I NEVER wear turtle necks! I think they make my boobs look like watermelons

I'm also digging what I like to call the straight jacket sweater. Doesn't sound nice but I love them! They are really loose around the neck & down to the armpit so you get a draping, then the lower arms and the rest of the torso are fitted. I can't find a pic online and of course the store I got it at doesn't have merch online so I can't post it :( I also love layering embellished tanks w/ a long cardigan. I like the dramatic cardi's too, where it's longer in the front than the back.

With the economy being so bad, I haven't really been buying clothes as much as accessories. I buy any "weird" jewelry I find. I'm also into decorated headbands. Sometimes a new accessory can change an entire outfit.

Kristina, here's a great site that you might find helpful: http://www.dressyourbodytype.com/

That's funny you said that. My mom feels the same way about turtle necks but I love them and have about 10 different ones! I always thought she was way out there feeling that way since I love the feeling of turtle necks!

What goes around...

comes back around! I'm not a big fan of cowl necks. I wore them in the 70s, but just can't get myself to wear them again. My daughter just bought a pair of Sperry Topsiders. Talk about a flashback to the 80s!! Apparently they are the new "in" shoe for her class (8th grade) this year. At least those are cute :)

I like some cowl necks, but not others. It depends on the length of the drape & the amount/heft of the fabric.

Fashion trends I don't understand, ummm jeggings?? It's so ironic that the panty hose are considered a fashion "don't" but fashionistas wear jeggings which are basically spandex denim panty hose. Ugh.

On that note: I went jean shopping last week & it was next to impossible to find ones that weren't weirdly stretchy. I was so skeeved by the fabric!! Hello? Cotton jeans? Anyone make those anymore? Do I have to go the mens' dept & get them altered?

I have about 4 or 5 cowl neck type shirts. They are great for this time of season.

I like turtlenecks too.

Loving the cowl neck, bought a fantastic sweater recently with one. Hate the skinny jeans, my legs just won't comply with that whole thing, but I do like the way they look on people who can wear them correctly. For the past couple of years I have been wearing all sorts of sweater jackets, and these longer sweaters that just sort of flow in the front, one of my favorite looks.

I swore I'd never wear skinny jeans this time around, but I've given in and have several pairs now. I'm liking the longer cardigan sweaters, and multi-metal, multi-chain necklaces. I'm not sure about cowl necks... maybe in a thin sweater fabric, but not something bulky.

Oh ooops! I was wearing one a few years ago because I love the color. I didn't know it was "out". How did I not end up on What Not to Wear? I love turtlenecks too. Broke down and bought my first pair of skinny pants this week. Haven't worn them yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

I've been eyeing some of the cowl necks this season and think I'll have to get a couple...so cute! I've never worn one so hope they look ok on me.

Skinny jeans...I'm wearing some right now. I mainly wear them w/ boots but sometimes w/ ballet flats or flip flops.

Another look I like, but I'm not sure I can work it right, is either leggings or skinny jeans with flat but high, I guess "riding boots" and a long chunky sweater.

I dont mind skinny jeans paired with a longer length shirt or blouse. I am not planning to succumb to pleated trousers. I dont care if I have to wait for the style to change before I wear a pair of trousers again. I loved the look in the eighties! I associate exaggerated carrot shaped pleated pants with the worst of eighties now and dont like even moderately pleated pants.

Amen to that! Nothing worse than looking like you're midway through your second trimester when you're sitting down.

Cascading cardigan sweaters. I can't seem to get enough of them. They've been around for a few years, but keep getting more popular. Such an easy way to look work appropriate while still feeling comfy and cozy.

I love a good cowl neck depending on the style. I hate turtlenecks, just too much at my neck. As long as it looks good then I'll wear it.
