Looking to purchase Cathe and just not sure...

Hi I am very interested in purchasing some new Cathe workouts, but like others I am unsure of what will work best for me. Here is an update of what I currently do and have done. I started working out with Taebo, moved to Turbo Jam 3 years ago, then a year ago I needed some strength training and decided to purchase the P90X. I continue to use the P90x and Turbo Jam videos together because P90x was an excellent program, but I and used and needed the cardio of Turbo Jam to lean out. I am 140 lbs and 5'3. Honestly I just want to lose 10 lbs, but I can't seem to get out of the 140s. I will continue to use P90x for strength training, but need more challenging cardio workouts. I am not looking for low impact. I love kick boxing, intervals and something that will continue to challenge me and give me great results. I want a total body workout but something that mainly focuses on abs, glutes and thighs. Can someone please advise on what I should purchase?

Butts and Guts and Drill Max are awesome.

Make sure and check out the clips on cathe.com. Gives you a good preview of each workout.

Thank you. I know that I am planning on purchasing Butts and Guts. I am not sure what cardio videos will challenge me. I need like 4-6 to add to my current rotation. Drill Max is just one video right? Is STS just mainly a strength training set?

Yeah, Drill Max is one video.

STS is all weights.

A very nice set is the 4 Day Split Series. That's 4 weight routines (Legs, Biceps & Triceps, Shoulders & Calves, and Chest & Back) along with 4 cardio routines (Kickboxing, Bootcamp, Lower Intensity Step and Higher Intensity Step.

4DS is a great set and has a ton of premixes. The cardio is about 30 minutes, but is really intense. You can double up on the cardio and do the Kickboxing + Bootcamp premix or the Step premix. The weight work is awesome, too, and can be used as a 4 day split, a 3 day split, an upper/lower body split or total body (use the premixes for those options). The step choreography is challenging and would be frustrating for non-steppers to start with. I personally love the step workouts, but step is my preferred cardio anyway.

Kick Max is a good cardio leg workout. That's one workout with several premixes available there, too.

If you like step aerobics, Cathe has a lot of good step cardios. The Imax ones really are intense interval workouts. My fave is Imax 2 because of the awesome music.

Thank you April for the info. I believe that I am going to purchase the 4DS, Butt and Guts. But I do have a question. Do any of those workouts have any ab routines? I definetely need that.

Hi, Coco! The 4DS series has two core/ab workouts, one of which follows the Kickbox workout, the other of which follows (I THINK) the Low Intensity Step workout. Different discs. I absolutely love the core routine after the Kickbox workout; Cathe does double sets of two-drill mini-sets (if that makes any sense) where your torso is on fire when you get to the second go-round of each double set. (Warning - if you have any "air in the pipes", the 4DS-KB core routine will force it ALL out! TMI)

The Butts And Guts disc has two core routines, one of which is floor-based and incorporates ankle weights and hand weights, the other of which (called a Bonus core routine on the disc) incorporates a stability ball. Thus the "Guts" part of the Butts & Guts title.

Good picks you've chosen.

One thing to note: on the 4DS-Boot Camp cardio portion of the workout there is a lot of downtime between each drill that, frankly, makes my heart rate go down too much if I do it the way it was filmed. The downtime is created by equipment set-ups and take-downs between many of the drills that I personally have found unnecessary. If you are in good cardiovascular shape, you'll want to plan your execution of this workout carefully, sometimes powering through the downtime portions by continuing the drill or doing another cardio drill of your own choosing. The drills themselves, however, are just cricket, making the modification efforts very worthwhile.

Butts & Guts is my favorite of all time, since that's my "area". (Not a "problem" anymore).

I would also recommend Kick Punch Crunch- there is an actual ab segment at the end, but the kickboxing portion involves a lot of twisting which will work all those little obscure core muscles you might not get with a straight-on ab routine. The first half of the cardio isn't super advanced, but the second half leaves me beet red and dripping sweat. And of course all those 'squat-jump-kicks' are going to tone your thighs, although if you get used to Butts & Guts level strength training, KPC will have a cardio-only feel (at least for me it does).

Thank you for the info on Butts and Guts and the Kick, Punch and Crunch. I absolutely love love kickboxing, but I do need it at an advanced level. So I will definetly preview that one and possibly purchase it. Did you have a "problem" with that area before Butts and Guts? I really need the ab, thigh and rear area worked on too.

I know you didn't ask about this but since you use mainly P90X and Turbo Jam for cardio have you thought about purchasing an Imax workout for some interval cardio to shock your body?

Well I have, butI was reading some posts and saw where some users said that the Imax 3 was the more intense one. Do you think I should purch Imax and if so which one(s)?

I think that technically any of the Imax's would fit the bill. Imax the originail is more dated. Imax 2 is the least intense of them all in my opnion, but I say that lightly b/c it is still an Imax workout and they are all intense. I like Imax 3 the best b/c it has a little more choreography and I like the music selection a lot except it is a lot lower than her other productions for some reason. Imax 2 is a lot of fun and may be a good Imax to start with. Now, the bonus for going with Imax the original is you get three workouts on one DVD (Imax, Rhymic Step, and Maximum Intensity Cardio) and you could come up with some killer cardio combo's with that DVD. So, basically, you can't go wrong with your decision!

Oh my gosh, I can't even tell you how many years I spent loathing my rear end. I'm kind of scrawny up top, but all my fat reserves are concentrated in my butt, thighs, and lower stomach. I spent too long focusing on getting smaller, but no matter how skinny I got, my lower body was just saggy and bulgy. Jeans never seemed to fit right. It was the B&G that really reshaped everything. B&G was my first Cathe purchase, and all of a sudden it was like, 'oh, that's what obliques look like' :) I've got that line down the side of my thighs now. And I *like* my butt now. I can't say what a huge statement that is for me.

I would definitely get the KPC and try it out, you can always return it. Bottom line, I never dread it, it's one of those workouts where everything is good- the atmosphere, the people- and you just keep going back to it. Also it comes with 'Legs & Glutes, which I can't do because of my knees, but is a solid workout. I've heard the premixes that incorporate segments from both are awesome and definitely challenging. I wish I could do them!

I would recommend IMAX 2 or the original Interval Max (if a dated look doesn't bother you: it doesn't me).

FYI: you can't return opened DVD's/videos, at least not if you buy from Cathe.com . If you get it from www.collagevideo.com , you can.
