Looking for some good movies!

Worknprogress

Cathlete
Now that the weather is changing and we will be indoors more on these chilly nights I am looking for some good movies. I belong to Netflix but the last 5 or so movies I've rented are horrible. Most I never even finish watching.

I love good dramas, romances, comedies. Anybody have any suggestions?

P.S. Just one for me to throw out there if you are looking for a heart-tugging feel good movie - good for teenagers as well (my 16 yr old DD loved it) is "August Rush."

Good thread!

I LOVE Before Sunrise and the sequel, Before Sunset with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphy. Both are shot in France, both are very conversational, and are about a young guy and girl who meet in BeforeSunrise, fall for each other, and agree to meet in one year if they are both still available...and the Before Sunset is the sequel that takes place 10 years later, showing what happened. I love them both for curl up and watching movie days/nights!!

I finally saw Whale Rider a few weeks ago and still find myself thinking about it. EXCELLENT film.

I'm sure you've probably seen a lot of these, but here are some of my faves (yeah, I'm a movie nut!:)):

Hannah and Her Sisters
Annie Hall
Radio Days
Hope & Glory
Shopgirl
Hairspray (the original John Waters version)
Bagdad Cafe
Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains (the movie isn’t really all that good, but it’s worth it for the commentary with Diane Lane and Laura Dern, but you need to watch the movie first!)

Sex in the City is out on DVD now, so is Leatherheads. Charlie Wilson's War has been out for a while but it was an excellent movie. I also really liked Invasion, it's kind of sci fi/horror & is now on cable.

I watched Ms Pettigrew Lives for a Day on the airplane on my last trip - that was pretty entertaining. I do love Amy Adams and Frances McDormand.

And of course the Sex and the City movie is fabulous.

Here are some of favorites. All of them are available on Netflix.

Jane,

I can't believe I forgot "Waitress"! Saw it for the first time a month ago, and I've watched it three times since!

Oh, and I love "Motorcycle Diaries," too (along with some others on your great lists!).

Ha!! TeTe, you and I love many of the same movies, but I snorted coffee through my nose when I saw The Bad Seed on your list. I love that one, too, but I never see it mentioned on anyone's list. My sister and I used to caress our mom's cheeks and smooth her hair while muttering, "You're so pretty! We tell all our friends how pretty you are." LMAO!!!

I loved Motorcycle Diaries too. I love it so much that I went and bought a HUGE book about Che Guevara which I haven't read yet. :)

Of recent releases, my DH and I loved the Sex and the City movie, and he didn't even follow the TV series. We also both loved No Reservations and watched it twice (the movie is far from perfect, but in the end it wins you over).

I loved August Rush! Antowne Fisher is incredible, even my DF cried :).
I thought Street Kings was decent (recent movie).
haven't really seen many lately that I thought were incredible.

I'm hitting a flick at the NY Film festival tonight so I'll let you know if I've seen anything good. :)

A few of my top movies are:

The Usual Suspects
Good Will Hunting
Shawshank Redemption
Anything with Betty Davis but specifically - "Now, Voyager", "All This and Heaven Too", and for a good cry "Dark Victory"
Anything with Humphrey Bogart - my favorite is "To Have and Have Not"
I love the cheesy old TV Mini-series "North & South" with Patrick Swayze! - great for snuggling up on a chilly night and watching. ;)
All of the "Bourne" movies

I'm sure I will think of some more... ;)

Michele: I love that line! One of my favorites is another said by Rhoda: "Claude was dead. He wouldn't know if he had the medal pinned on him or not." Rhoda's poor mother in that movie just sounds SO miserable and tired! And don't get me started on that ending, with the spanking!!!! LMAO

Jane: I read Che Guevera: Images of a Revolutionary after seeing that movie!
