Lip gloss or lipstick?

Is lip gloss going out of style? Seems like I'm seeing less & less gloss, more & more stick. I think that wet look isn't fashionable anymore (on a side note, I remember when gloss was making its comeback. The first time I wore it to work the secretary said I looked like I'd just eaten a fried chicken leg.)

What I love about the gloss is it's really moisturizing & prevents chapped lips. Especially this time of year. I haven't had the same success w/lipstick, but I do like the look better.

So part of me would be glad to ditch the gloss, part of me would be sad. Does anyone know of a lipstick that's as moisturizing as gloss?

Wow there's tons of them.. I actually prefer lip liner myself ;)

I used to use the liner and then top it with gloss (couldn't live without my gloss, especially the dclinique airkiss).. but all my lips are fake (I draw them o nwith the liner) so if I use gloss over them the color comes off the shiney lips and then im left with a line of liner around my lips that looks foolish (yes, worse than Chola :)

So, needless to say Im stuck with line rfor the res tof my life :)

But Urban Decay just reinstated their line of lipsticks that are more gloss-like than matte like, and LANCOME makes some great creamy lipsticks!

L'Oreal made some goods ones I l.iked a lot years ago.. and Covergirl sometimes makes a good one too.. more like a lipstick/lip gloss fusion or something (not sure if they would still have it).

Hmm, don't know if it is technically going out of style. To know that, I would have to absorb the silly stuff I read in magazines instead of just skimming and looking at the pictures. :p

But I am only a gloss fan in warmer weather, anyway. Winter seems more lipstick-y, if only because it makes sense in my head. I love Stila lipstick. It is not in a fancy tube (very basic recycled cardboard) but it wears in the most wonderful way. It keeps my lips moisturized but yet isn't sticky and doesn't wear off. I can put it on in the morning and it lasts a loooong time without reapplying. I feel like it protects my lips in winter, too. The colors are fun- mostly names after women. My favorite is Lynn.

Wow, that was a lot of thoughts in my head about lipstick.

No answer to the good lipstick question, because I am a lip gloss type of person too. I just enjoy feeling like I can get moisterized and color in one step. Plus, my lips are shaped weird so the gloss hides the exact lines of my lips better.

Chiming in with another non-answer but some interesting (maybe?) trivia on the subject. Years ago I remember reading that when the economy takes a downturn, lipstick color gets more vibrant (clothing, too). I guess lipstick is something we just can't do without, and perhaps when people are not feeling so great economically, the extra color gives them a boost. Perhaps with this downturn, lipstick seems more vibrant than gloss...... just a theory! I say stick to what you like, as long as you can find a supply! :)

I use tinted lip balm. Not as shiny as gloss not as err...ummm-lispticky...as lipstick. I reserve lipstick for days when I have time to put it on. I have a big mouth and it takes forever to wear lipstick properly (less than one minute...but who has that?)

My lips tend to be dry and I havent found a lipstick that works yet. The ones that moisturize get smudgy or fade easily and the ones that stay on make my lips more dry. I dont buy any but the drug-store brands. I am too skint to spend a ton on an upscale brand.

I am a lipgloss fanatic...always was...always will be. I don't care what fashion says ;)

I love the feeling of my lips moisturized and now they have more full color glosses so I get the look of lipstick with more shine.

Laura,

I also love the gloss look. That is such a great idea to use it for the lips to keep them moist during the Winter months. I'm going to get some.

LOL! I never thought of it as looking like I ate greasy fried chicken. Who care, if it saves my lips this Winter.

I wear Revlon Colorstay Overtime lipstick. The lipstick itself is very dry, but it comes with clear gloss that you put over it to keep your lips soft. It's a good compromise...it stays on a long time, but you can be shiny and glossy too. Plus the color doesn't come off when I kiss my kids! My girls like to wear the clear gloss also.

I bought a tube of Red Hot from Clinique. It was the perfect shade of red for me. However, it showed all my fine lip lines. I didn't want a glossy look. So, I use All About Lips from Clinique to exfoliate and moisturize my lips for the matte lipstick to glide on smoothly. When I need to reapply, I use a small amount of All About Lips on a tissue and rub my lips first.

I love gloss myself. It's easier to apply and being the non-make up girl that I am, it's just enough for me. Besides, a good lipstick costs an arm and a leg these days and I can never seem to find a good color. I'll stick with the gloss, thank you very much!:p

Me, too. It's easy, it's fast, it makes my lips look just a tad fuller and Victoria's Secret makes some yummily scented (but not yummy tasting), slightly tinted and sparkly ones that I love. Whatever is considered in our out of style doesn't matter to me, I just do what I love and love doing it. :)
