lighting and cellulite!

Hi Everyone,

Is it just me, or does flourescent light make you look 100 times worse than you thought you looked? Lately I've actually been thinking that my thighs were looking better. Firmer and tighter. Then, I went for a mamagram today,(as if that wasn't bad enough!)and when I removed my dress in the changing room I almost cried. My legs looked terrible! I swear I looked like a 90 year old woman. It ruined my entire day. Has anyone else had this experience? I think flourescent lighting must be the most unflattering light there is.
Just wanted to vent a little.

Thanks, Vickie

Oh my goodness yes this has happened to me and it really can put me in a bad mood. This usually happens to me when I am in a dressing room at a store trying on cloths. I usually get frustrated and my shopping trip is short. I wonder if the lighting was better in the dressing rooms if stores would sell more. I guess we have to remember that we are not florescent lighting much.

The question is do we look that bad?? I think probably no.

Go back to your mirror and look at your progress again - I bet you will still have the same conclusion - firmer and tighter.

Hey Vickie! It definitely isn't just you, the older I get the more I know, it's ALL about the lighting :)! I can hardly look in the mirror when I am having a haircut because the flourescent lighting casts such a yukky blue hue on my face and every line and contour is shadowed and I think 'my God I look like an old hag!!'. Change rooms in a lot of stores have that harsh lighting too which makes it far too humbling when trying on bras or bathing suits. It's unfair to assess yourself by that lighting, but I hear you.
I love soft lighting with a pink or golden hue, very flattering, I guess that's why nice restaurants often have that lighting.

Don't be so hard on yourself, it sounds like you had a lot going on today. I'll keep lots of good thoughts for you that your mammogram has the best possible outcome!!! :)

Thank you guys, I am so glad I am not the only one. I kept thinking, maybe I'm just crazy. By the way , I had a diagnostic mamagram, so I got the results immediately. Everything is perfectly fine. It was my first one, so it was extremely intimidating. Thank goodness that the people who work in these positions are so nice. The technition was a dream, talked to me the whole time about the latest episode of Oprah! She was a hoot.

Thanks again, Vickie

Hey Vickie!! So glad all is well. It's so true that the right technicians can make all of the difference and diffuse that stress. That's pretty high praise when you can say you had a 'hoot' at your mammogram!!:)

YES! Lighting definately matters! That's why trying on a bathing suit in a fitting room is such a tramatic experience. I have pretty low light in my workout room and I swear, that lighting makes me not even recognise myself. LOL who's that buff babe in the mirror! Then I get out in normal lighting and see all those little bumps and dimples and then lorescent lighting ! the worst of all. Avoid mirrors under florescent lighting at all cost! lol

I used to go to a hairdresser who had flourescent lighting and I always looked pale and sick. BTW my skin has olive undertones. It is NEVER pale!

I was outside with my girlfriend last weekend and she said "Your legs look really muscular and you don't have any cellulite". The following weekend I went to Altanta and got on an elevator. My legs looked so fat and covered with cellulite when the mirrored doors closed.

I think it has to do with the position of the lights too. If the light is coming from only above, it casts shadows that make you look horrible.

I can look quite buff and toned when I stand in front of my workout mirror with my muted lighting (indirect light at a distance). But you're right about flourescent lights. And what marketing genius came up with the idea of unflattering lighting for dressing rooms? I'd light them with muted lighting with a bit of peach or pink tint to it.

ME TOO!!

I swear in my house I can look in one mirror thighs look ok then I look in another one and HOLY COW look like I have cellulite city LOL not sure if not if I have it or not  I mean I know I have a little bit.........But then I think why dose it only show it one area in one mirror and not the whole thigh my husband says I am crazy and he dose not see it at all :) sweet but come one now what husband would tell you, You have it ALL

As someone else mentioned, I think the angle of the light plays a huge part in how good or bad we look. Direct overhead light shining down from above highlights all bumps and lumps. It makes us look worse than we actually look to others in real life who are looking directly at us.
