Lifting like girls

Hi all. Didn't go into today with the right mind set. Had lower body cardio one. However I did well! About half way through I twisted wrong and my back went into spasms. But, I took a stretch and pushed on. The courtesy lunges were painful so backed off those. By the end the hurt was going down my leg.

Not doing abs, putting an icy/hot patch on for the day. I will see if I am better tonight
Fortunately tomorrow is rest day.

And I have a lunch date tomorrow........ooooh (it isn't going to go anywhere, we are both way to busy, and I want to leave Missouri after school)

Yeah, Karen- how are you? I guess there's not much you can do about a virus, except for sit (sleep?) it out. Good job you're made of steel.

Tom, woo hoo on the strict. Grinding is ok, cos if the bar doesn't want to go up, you gotta make it. So pleased for you.

Lisa, are you doing an STS rotation? I wasn't sure at first whether you were just dipping in and out of the DVDs, but no-one would do those push ups voluntarily. Is that the one where there are 72 of them? (Yes, I count them.) I meant to ask, after mentioning band work, and you saying it really 'gets in there', have you done travel fit? Is it worth me giving a go? I am thinking it may be cardio and endurance? I have it as a download, but haven't tried it.

Lib....tell more. About the date (but I'm interested in the workouts as well X). Don't dismiss it before you've even been on it! We need the excitement, even if you don't. Hope your back is ok.

HTS day 3 month 6. Supersets (5 of the first, then 4,4 and thankfully only 3.of the last):

Zercher squats x6 + Swiss ball stir the pot 1 minute
Landmine step back lunges x8each + bench press x5
Lunge with rotation x8 each side + kick throughs x10 each side
Half kneeling KB overhead press x8 each side + Turkish get ups x2 each side

pleased with the zerchers- I had no idea what sort of weight I'd be able to use, but they were easier than front squats, so I used 65kg, but could go higher. It's going to be my arms which limit the move. Also bench press was ok. I played around with hand position (thanks Tom), and for a medium width, thumbless grip was the best. I also touched down to my chest each rep.
Those TGUs nearly killed me though!

Karen, I've done a few romwods. I'm ambivalent. I'll probably subscribe for a month, because it's what I need (20 mins, passive stretching, no shoulder work like in yoga), but I'm not wowed. Full review to follow.

Roz, I attempted casein cookies last night. What on earth is all the fuss about? Didn't give me immediate abs ;)

Happy mid week to all.

Tom, you showed those strict presses who's boss! Niiiiice. Plus you hit near failure on so many of your other sets, you must have really banged it out today! Is today the day you head out for your DW's surgery? I hope all goes well for her. (and you!)

Justine, yeah, I'm doing a quasi STS rotation. I'm definitely going to finish out Meso 1 since I've only got 4 discs left. I want to do Meso 2 but not Meso 3. Oh good heavens, you're totally right about the pushups. Week 3 has the most IIRC, with a drop set series of 66, bur then there's 21's and 8 standard + 8 wide + 30 standard. And that's not even all of it. Crazy. You're really pounding through HTS! Great work today. ROMWOD sounds like a bummer. I like Travel Fit. It was a great as-is workout during my pregnancies. I do it when not pregnant a well but I usually make the cardio high impact and will substitute weights for the band to make it harder. You can also repeat some of the circuits if you want to up the calorie burn. You should try it since you already own it.

Lib, yes we need details of the date! The rest of us Commandos are old married fuddy duddies, so even just-for-fun dates are interesting! Where do you want to move to after school? Hope your lower back feels better.

Karen yes please report!!!

Roz, hey, how are your DOMS on top of DOMS treating you?

Today I did Low Impact HIIT Circuit Live (2/12/15). It's kinda like a cardio and compound "best of" from RWH. Fun!

Y'all are too funny. My back is better. Thankfully.

His name is Mike, he first asked me out about a year and half ago, things have gotten in the way ever since.
We had a class together, and became friends. He is a retired Marine. He is a true gentleman. We have hung out a few times, but something has always come up to cut it short.

He asked me to lunch for tomorrow. Out of the blue, we actually hadn't talked for about three months, and he just texted last night.

As for moving. I am looking at university of Colorado or Kansas university, for my Phd. I would LOVE to live on the East Coast, Virginia or North Carolina.

Got in a quickie arm w/o today. Supersets, skullcrushers/ hammer curls 3x15, kickbacks/ concentration curls, 3x10, and close grip pushups/ bi isos x 25 x20 x15. I used 35s on the tri work but had to use 25s on bis...anything heavier really stoked up the ole tendons!! Waiting in radiology for DW to get pre op xrays, then off to other pre op stuff!! Do it to it Commandos!!!

Tom, thinking of you and your dw. Hope all goes well. Good job getting a workout in.

Squat day here:
Wall facing hip rotation x10 + back squats (5,3,1,1)
Swissball leg raises (a bit too easy, obviously been doing Cathe too long) + half kneeling elastic rotations
BB bent over row (12) + side plank
Suitcase carry + offset Cossack squats.

Disappointed in my back squats. Got 5@82kg no problem, 3 @ 87kg, but then couldn't get to 90kg for 1. It seems as though I can do 3 if I can do 1. Basically I don't have a 1rm. Weird. So I went off plan (get me, all easy going) and did 5,3,3,3

Cathe's live looked fun today. I'm sure you'll be doing it at some point Lisa?

Lib, pleeeeeease let us know how it goes with Mike!
Moving to the east coast sounds amazing (I'm on the east coast of the U.K., but I'm not so sure it's quite the same lol)

Lisa, I think I remember that low impact hiit live - Cathe did one or two with a rwh feel about that time, didn't she? I loved them.

Hi Roz, Karen.

Tom, best wishes to your DW for a smooth, successful procedure.

Justine, yep I can't wait to do Today's Live! LOL on your easy going, off plan sets of 5,3,3,3. You're becoming such a rebel, girl! ;)

Lib, the world is your oyster, excited to see where you end up! Make sure you flex your biceps for Mike to show him your new Commando muscles!

Today I did STS Disc 8 Back & Triceps. Blech but at least it's done!

Have a good day, buddies!

Update......it went well. It was interrupted a few times, then I got called into the lab. But we did manage to get about 40 minutes to catch up. Had coffee, and a very nice conversation. With a promise to get together again soon.

Then just before my last class of the day, received a call from Jon, asking if he could take me to dinner tomorrow. Y'all are loving this. I am not so sure.

Funny about flexing, I actually wore a sleeveless top! First time in over two years.

John, Mike. It's getting interesting!

Lisa, well done with STS. (I have to talk myself into doing STS as well.)

Tom, hope dw is doing well.

Karen- any better yet?

Roz, are you into meso 2 now? How's that?

Today I did Mark Lauren's mobility Rx, then a 45 minute ROMWOD. That's all. Feeling a bit speed out after 90 mins of stretching!

Thanks Justine, just out and Dr said it went great! Knee was a mess, but should be much better now! 90 min of stretching??? Geeze, painful! Show those guns Lib...you're earning them! Lisa, between you and me, we do a great sts! I love what you hate and vice versa!! Hate 1, love 3! Good work getting thru what you don't like! Thanks for wife good wishes! Karen, hope recovery is going well, we miss you! Roz, you are going to be " off the charts strong" after sts! If it goes like mine, your bench will " freak"! I'll be in Minn until Monday, then home a couple of days, then back. I'll do what I can, when I can while here with dumbbells, then when I get home it's "Back on"!!! Hit it and post it Commandos!! Have a great Friday and weekend!!

Hi all!
Great work all around. I love reading about your workouts AND your personal intrigues. ;)

Tom, glad your DW will be much better after she heals up. Sending her best wishes! I'm doing the Renaissance Periodization female physique templates, which are also broken down into mesocycles. No STS for me right now.

Lisa, wow, I love how you just casually slid that STS rotation in there. ;) How are you liking it this time around? (I hear ya re: Meso 3.)

Justine, I'm still deloading till next Weds (blah). I'm over it (also missing the moderate/hard day food). I almost want to shorten the deload but I know that's not advised...

Karen, hope you're feeling better!

Lib, hope your dates are on fiyah while you crush ICE in your workouts! Woohoo on rocking a sleeveless shirt! Make sure you get a license for those guns, OK? ;)

I'll quit my mini-mass in the next 2.5 weeks (plan is another 2.5 weeks, but I'm playing by ear). Then maintain for a month, then a mini-cut. Then I'm planning to chill out for the rest of the summer, diet-wise.

Blah... I'm just feeling blah today. Oh well, it happens!
Take care, all!
Roz

Justine, you must be feeling like a limp noodle after 90 mins of stretching. I think a nap is in order! Knowing you, you'll go for a 6 mile dog walk instead. Still snowing there? Any special plans to celebrate HRH's 90th? ;) (I've got to give you guff over those Royals, you know!)

Tom, hope you can squeeze in some workouts with all your nursing duties! Glad the surgery went off without a hitch! You and your DW are troopers, surgery is a hardship on both the patient and the nurse alike! Roz and I will do STS Mesos 1 and 2 on your behalf, and you can do Meso 3 for us. I wish it worked that way! Workout by proxy would be awesome!

Roz, sorry for your blah day. I've had a few of those recently. Not fun. I'd say grab a spoonful of CB but it sounds like you're not allowed on your deload week! At least the deload week is doing its job--you're getting antsy to get going again.

Lib, your life is like a rom-com! Live it up, girl! Love that you're showing off those toned muscles. :)

Karen, hi!

Today I did a Gloved Up and Ready Live. I want to do one of Ilaria's Bodystrikes but I couldn't do it today because my muscles are spent and I didn't want to burn out my legs (I hear Bodystrikes are very intense on the legs!).

TGIF!

We got up at 4:15 today to get to the hospital, and she did really great! Really no more painful yet than it was prior to surgery...good sign! When I got back to the hotel I was able to get a dumbbell chest w/o in. They only had up to 50s, so I did 7 sets flat bench, 45s x10, 50s x 20 x15 x 12 x10 x10 x10 and inclined bench, 3x10. Roz, I thought you were doing another program, but the Meso threw me! Justine, I'm not sure of my nursing skills...hate ted socks!! I guess she survived last time so I got at least a C ( not good by Lib's standards) lol!! Lisa, you need to check into anger management!! Really pounding away and "diggin it"!!! ( whole new respect for pink gloves!! Nite All!

Tom, so glad to hear it went well!

Lisa that sounds like a fun but intense workout!

Roz, feel better soon.

Yesterday was a weird day. I didn't workout In the am, which threw the whole day off. I ended up sleeping until 930 (wow!!) then did my presentation for the grad school, where the dean of the entire grad school ended up telling me she thought I was wasting my time for my grad school plan and goals. :( but, I'm trying not to let it get me down. Then I finished me huge paper, then came home and drank four large glasses of wine. Ugh!

Today, I had an emergency with a student, so was up at 2 am and finally go back to bed about 430, woke up again about 10 (crap it's a going to take forever to get back onto my reg pattern) but did chiseled lower body today. Almost threw up twice, but got through it. Going to hurt tomorrow!

Aw, Lib, don't listen to the naysayers! I mean, if she was actually giving you constructive comments then that's one thing, but if she's just tearing you down, what good does that do? You are so smart and motivated, you've got this! You'll figure out a plan. Sorry you had to deal with that AND an emergency. I'm amazed at how you fit your workouts into your life. Just imagine all your Commandos chanting "Go Lib! Go Lib! Go, go, go Lib!"

Tom, well yeah, I'm an attorney so of course I have an anger management problem. :) Hope things are still on the up and up for your DW. Glad you got a workout in! No better way to deal with stress!

Hey to everyone else, hope you're all having a great weekend!

Today I did Boot Camp Blast Off Live (3/10/16). Since it was short, I decided to experiment with a Tracie Long workout, courtesy of my totalfitnessdvds streaming. I think I'll stream a new-to-me stretching workout tomorrow. I'll be back on Monday!

Morning lifters! I got a quickie shoulder w/o in early before heading to visit my invalid!! She doing great and taking a nap now. I only had dumbbells to 50s and worked up to 5 sets of 8 with those, 1x10 with 40s, side laterals, 20s,3x10, and rear delt flys, 3x10, ( 35s)and finished with shrugs, 50s, 1x 50 reps. Lisa, I was kidding about the anger management thing, but really laughed when you said you were an attorney!! Finish up the weekend right friends!!

Hi all,
I had a dreadful day (lift-wise) yesterday, and was so grumpy about it, that I decided not to check in. Basically I didn't have any energy, since I'd had a rest day Friday, and ate for a 'non-training day RP style'. I've now realised how much it affects my lifts the following day. So no more of that for me, light or moderate eating only. It was deadlifts, and I dropped from using 102kg to 97kg for the same rep/ set pattern. Bah humbug.

Today was better, and I got in some decent elevator front squats and overhead presses, amongst other things. The workout has stomps in it, where basically you stamp your foot as hard and as quickly as possible. Blimey, that wakes up the cns.

Lisa - we're not celebrating the Queen's birthday, but the press will not shut up about it! Perhaps we should have tea and scones on the lawn? We are, however, going to the birthday party of HRH the Duke of Kent in 3 weeks time. My father in law happens to be hosting it! Does that count as British enough?

Roz, hope deload wasn't too easy for you ;)

Tom, great to hear that all is well with dw's knee.

Lib, too many men, too little time? The dean sounds as though she was way out of order with what she said. Ignore and carry on. I agree with Lisa, you're bright and determined. You'll be fine X

Karen, are you recovered yet? I do hope so.

Here's to a great final week of April. In like a lion, out like a lamb, as they say (although maybe it's March that the idiom refers to, I can't remember!)

Lisa, thanks I needed that! Glad today went better!

Tom, glad to hear your side is doing well!

Justine, I cancelled with Jon, needed to finish a paper.

Today I did low impact sweat cardio 2 and icy core 2. I can see cardio improvements! I used a higher step (can't break this one down) and still got through it. Only paused when I felt light headed.

Last night I was able to get another arm w/o in, this time I was able to use 30s, 5 x 10 on curls with no tendonitis issues...progress!!! Lib, good work on the step...I don't even go there!.Justine, sounds like your press is a lot like ours...and that's NO compliment!! I had no idea we had genuine blue bloods in our forum!! That is pretty cool!! Have a great week ladies!!
