Lifting like girls

More randomness in my home gym today : Summer 2016 Kickoff Live (the metabolic and legs portion) + Kick Max Leg Conditioning Drills (basically barre work but back before barre was mainstream). I have been trying to mix up my lower body workouts with bodyweight, metabolic, and barre. I still love the weights, but ya know, variety is the spice.

Happy Wednesday to you both

Yesterday was Mark Lauren. He has a new You Are Your Own Gym DVD. Volume II. So yesterday was the first workout. I liked it. I like Mark Lauren because his workouts are short and to the point. They're all about mobility, and strength. This morning was a premix from Tracie Long's Defining Shape. About 30 minutes. I like her more and more. Her workouts are all about functional strength. There was a time, I thought all that "stuff" was a waste of time. But, I really like her. She takes some getting used to, and you have to do her workouts a dozen times to get the moves, but it's all good. It's time I started doing more than just heavy weights. I want and need some mobility, and I am so right hand dominant, I need to work on my left side. Thinking about starting a yoga routine as well. Flexibility needs to fit in there somewhere. I have all these workout programs, I would love to start, just not enough hours in the day.
We have had close to record snow pack in the mountains this year. So, looks like we will be able to water the lawn this Summer. But, some days have been dreary. Can't wait for Spring metamorphosis. That's about it, guys. Talk tomorrow.

Well, as you probably noticed, I was a "" leg day no show" Not proud, but was short on sleep and the snooze called me! My dental assistant at work has decided to get in shape, never done anything before, but the first time she did planks, she did a 2 minute one!! I told her she's not normal. We did pushups yesterday at work in off times and She did sets of 15, pretty good since the first ones she tried were just the other day and She does them right! She ended up with 72 and I did 200 ( just showing off)! But I am amazed at how fast she adapts! I gave her some light dumbells I had, some resistance bands and I am taking her a 20# kettlebell to use. I told her she could find w/o's on pintrest. She really doesn't have time to go to the gym with 3 kids and can't afford it. I think some people are naturally really responsive to resistance training and She has the " commando mentality" and goes for it..should be fascinating if she stays with it. Well, I think I will go do some planks!! Hope I don't feel inferior when I'm done! Lol

Well I did my planks and kicked my own A$$. Total was 8 min, 3 min on both elbows, 1 min each side, 1 min , divided into 15 sec intervals lifting r leg, left leg, r arm, l arm back to 1 min both elbows and 30 sec each side....liked to have died!!! Good core day..leg day???? not so much! Make up leg day Saturday...AGAIN!

Shoulder day, tried hard but not able to set any prs or even close. 10 sets strict press, 3x8 side lat/ front raise, 3x10 rear delt fly and 3x25 barbell shrugs. Sounds like you two are "shakin things up" a little, way to go, wish I wasn't so locked in but I just cant seem to add variety and leave my comfort zone. My old basement floor just isn't good for mobility stuff and floor work (that's my excuse and it has worked so far), but I live vicariously in the fast lane thru y'all! They are bringing a dentist in Friday for a "meet and greet". I think it is to see if she wants to work in a prison...maybe not for everybody! Have a "good un" Ladies!

Good morning! Another Mark Lauren. Ladders this time. Very different, but a great workout.
Lisa, I did Home Gym Intervals on the spin bike. It was a good workout, got my heartrate up there. Not my favorite, but ok.
Off to prepare breakfast. Only work till 2:00 today, early weekend start.
I hope the new dentist works out, Tom. Have a great day!

Karen, I read about Mark Lauren's new DVDs on 2lazyforthegym blog. I don't know if you've heard of it, but it's a blog that a fellow Cathe forum user writes to review all sorts of workouts--DVDs, Cathe Lives, etc. She's a big Mark Lauren fan like you. Her favorite is YAYOG but she likes the new program too. I totally agree about functional fitness. My mom and my grandmas (grandmas are now deceased) all have had osteoporosis. My #1 goal in working out is to have strong bones and to not be the old lady who falls and hurts herself (and I say that with no humor intended, it's a serious thing to happen). The aesthetics are nice but it's the daily life stuff that matters more to me. Tracey does that well and as I understand it Mark does too. Enjoy yourself with your variety, why not??? I was thinking how Christmas was a month ago and OMG it's been a crappy January here. At least the days are getting longer. My bright SAD therapy light helps a lot. I just want this damn snow to melt and leave forever!!! No doubt this summer the talk will be about the rivers overflowing and people not being able to play in the rivers because of all the record snow. If it's not one thing it's another... Geez, sorry to be such a downer!

Tom, I think you've been an excellent influence on the dental assistant. She's drinking the Kool Aid! Well, I know money and time are issues for busy working-outside-the-home moms like her but there are loads and loads of FREE YouTube workout videos that she might be able to squeeze in to her day, many involving minimal equipment and you can find 15 or 20 min workouts for rushed days. Just my two cents. But you, sir, and your planks are ridiculous. So impressive. I also just realized that your crazy endurance shoulders probably really help you do those ridiculously long plank holds. Hats off to you. Yeah, I think being a prison dentist would not make my dreams come true, but neither would a dentist. I'm obviously amongst the most hated of all professionals (laywers! blech!) but I still stuck with the civil side. I guess I'd rather go after people for their money than their crimes, lol!

Oh yeah, almost forgot my workout report. Today I did Ramped Up Cardio & Weights Live (9/22/16) + C&W Heavy Weights premix. Seems long but was less than an hour. Got a GREAT upper body pump from it. Will try to do today's Live this Saturday.

See you later, pals!

ARM DAY!, better known as FRIDAY!! Freakin killed em today, 22 sets and several were to failure. 6 sets of pushdowns/ ez bar curls, 2 sets kickbacks/dumbbell curls, 2 sets crossbody tri's/ conc curls and 1 set bi isos/ tri pushups. Bi's and tri's said I give multiple times but I would NOT listen! I would feel SO good if I didn't have to make up legs tomorrow....sinner repent!! Have a terrific Friday fellow ironheads!

Tom, Friday = FRYday for your arms. I hope you can sleep tonight since you're sooooo excited about leg day tomorrow!!! ha! Have a great Friday!

Karen, how are you doing? Up to no good on your day off? ;)

Today I did Cardio Boxing Live. I needed cardio and I felt like I would be tripping all over my step this morning so I figured better play it safe, leave the step in the closet, and pull out the pink gloves.

TGIF!

Nice move with the step and pink gloves, Lisa. Some days are like that. Good job frydaying the arms, Tom. Don't get too excited about leg day.
Today was Tracie Long's "Leaning Out." I loved this workout, don't know why I haven't used it more. You're right Lisa. She must be doing something right, she looks great.
Today the sun is actually shining, but there is snow on the ground, and it is 25 degrees. The mountains are gorgeous. Yes!!!! TGIF!
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Don't know why I do this to myself but leg day made up! I do know but still painful! I stopped at 4x8 sets of squats, no bench and went deeper but right knee has been pretty sore and beyond 155 seemed like torture so I stopped there. Next, 3x8 reverse lunges, gob squats x15 12 12, 3x10 single leg deads, weighted single leg calf raises 15 15 20 and unweighted single leg calf raises x20 20 25 and finished with chin ups x12 8 and cable crunched 2x20. I have been doing pushups at work along with the dental assistant and my shoulder has not been any problem! I did 200 Wed and 225 Friday, most on sets of 40 but some shorter sets and it felt really good! The new Dentist seems really interested in coming, we got to meet her yesterday and she seemed very nice and acted like she would like to come...hope it works out! Finish out the weekend right my friends!

It's Monday and that means chest and tris. 13 set bench pyramid, 3 sets of isos, 4 sets of pushdowns, 1 set skullcrushers and I used a lighter weight than usual but after all the other stuff 1x8 was a near fail, and finished with 1x20 kickbacks. If we are doing pushups at work today they may come in shorter sets lol! Have a great start to the week ladies!

This morning was Cardio Slam, and Abs. The first time I did this workout, I must have been tired. I didn't like it too much. Did it this morning, and loved it! Haven't done Abs yet. Will do them after work. I've heard it's a good one
