Lifting heavier=hungrier?

I thought there was a thread about this somewhere but couldn't find it, so I'll ask here. I've recently upped my weights and I think it makes me want to eat more, has anyone else felt like this or is it in my head?
I feel like I'm going to sabatoge myself because after I get done with a good heavy workout I want to eat the entire kitchen; and not just a healthy snack or protein shake, I want junk and empty calories too. Any suggestions?

I go through those spells when I get hungry,so I'll make sure I eat more protein, ie chicken, nuts. My neighbor cracked me up, she said, "I ate a whole rotesseire chicken from Krogers but not all in one sitting."

Get rid of junk food. Or have healthy junk food, if that make sense. Jackie Warner mentioned something about cravin' sweets and to increase protein. But I crave sweets I take cinammon supplements.

No it is not in your head, it happens to the best of us!

If I lift heavy I am STARVED all the time. Even the endurance training I did on my bike for my last event did not make me as hungry as lifting heavy does.

What's ironic is I know people who get hungry from cardio and not from weights. I think it's a very individual thing.

I do find that if I eat protein AND good carbs within 30 minutes after lifting, I am not as hungry (I could just eat a Shetland Pony instead of a Clydesdale  - and yes I'm joking - I could never eat horse).

Yes, heavier lifting makes me hungrier, too.

One thing that keeps my junk cravings at bay is adding more good fats into my diet...lots of nuts and nut butters, coconut oil, full fat dairy (I consider this clean food).

I get pretty hungry after a workout most of the time - sometimes not - but yes, sometimes I am ridiculously ravenous. I try to do a small but light shake after a weight work out which helps - water, soy protein and a hint of vanilla and agave nectar for flavoring and ice (I can't do whey protein - heartburn city!). But I really do that to stave off muscle soreness.

My primary tactic - I find that when I am feeling really hungry and want to eat the kitchen plus the neighbor's kitchen and all the kibble for their dogs, I focus on protein and allow myself to eat freely of the protein - so I grill chicken breasts and eat a couple of them (or three). This seems to curb my bad food cravings completely after a workout. I would rather indulge in the excess chicken than in the junk food.

It works. Try it. You never know. . . .

Yes! Eat a small meal or snack every two - three hours, and make them clean. Raw almonds, PB on a rice cake, small salad, fruit, chicken breast or fish, brown rice, etc etc. I find I can still stay on a 1500 - 1800 calorie/day diet without eating the kitchen sink if I stick to this.

I get hungry after lifting too, especially after doing ME. I usually workout at night, so I don't like to eat much after the workout. I will normally go for a glass of chocolate milk and drink it slowly from a straw. Believe it or not, most of the time, that works for me. I got the idea from someone else on teh forum in another topic months ago.

cinammon supplements?

Netsnotes-
What do you use for a cinammon supplement? I've never heard cinnamon for cravings before, it might be worth a shot after I've eaten the whole kitchen:).

Note to self: Invest in cinnamon supplements!! I've never heard of this for curbing sweet cravings!

One of my tricks is a piece of Ezekiel bread in the afternoons with smart balance pb and a little honey drizzled on it. It gives me a boost and helps me through my workout (I workout in the evenings). Also, right after lifting heavy, I have a protein shake. Totally fills me up to the point of ickiness.
