Let's talk Green Tea

I have never been a tea fan. I do like the Lipton sugar free green tea citrus flavor, but tea bags BLAH!!! A book I am reading has me convinced to drink 3 cups a day. So I'm giving it a try. I boil the water, steep the tea then pour it over ice. I'm still gaggingit down. Can anyone suggest a good flavor or something I can do to make this less miserable & more enjoyable for me. I'm using Salada green tea, strawberry & orange flavor.

Thanks ladies

I like plain green tea but one that is very nice is Starbucks tazo Zen, it's green tea with spearmint and lemongrass, it's pretty good. go to Starbuck's and try one and if you like it you can buy a box cheaper at the grocery store.

Good luck,
Aggie

Why would anyone on earth drink Lipton?! No wonder you don't like tea! Blech! Toilet water would likely be better than that.

I second the Tazo Zen. Starbucks sells Tazo teas which in my opinion is about the only good teabag tea out there.

You can also check out Adagio teas (adagio.com) who will sell you sample sizes very cheaply so if you don't like the tea, no worries. I have been on a Genmai Cha kick which is a rice green tea. Unfortunately they are out of it at the moment.

I like Jasmine Green Tea - hot or gold. I tend to prefer chinese green tea, I am not very fond of Sencha, however Genmaicha (a japanese tea) with toasted rice and corn is good.

I buy my tea from this guy. http://www.teafountain.com/

Tell Rover "miss 1314" sent you.

LOL :D:D you beat me to it!!

(Lipton tea - yuck, Tazo tea - blech blech and double blech):p:D:D

I also like the Tazo green teas. Most health food stores sell them and I have even seen them at a very good price at Target. There is one called Lotus--with lotus flavoring--a ginger pear one. Is that the Zen? I make a big pitcher, add one tsp. of honey and put it in the fridge. Everyone loves it. I think the Lotus one is decaf. OK I went and checked and it is called Green Ginger. Now I will have to try Zen.

I'll give those teas mentioned a try. Obviously I drink Lipton because I like it. The flavored varieties have some flavor to them.
I'll shop around until I find the one I like. Thanks for all your input.

I actually like the Tazo teas. Their Awake tea is the closest thing to loose leaf tea English breakfast that you can readily buy but if you know of something better do share ;) I cannot speak for their other variety teas.

I cannot stand "Stash" nor "Celestial Seasonings" and the other grocery store junk teas. You don't get actual tea leaf....just dust. Yuck!!

I'm not big on hot tea, but I love iced tea. Every day at work I get an iced green tea from Starbucks, shaken not stirred. Venti, unsweetened. At first I just bought one because my office was hot and I needed something to cool down. Then I got addicted, and now I drink them everyday even if I have to wear a sweater to stay warm. :p

Oh, and if I have to drink hot tea, Mighty Leaf is the only tea I really like a lot. http://www.mightyleaf.com/index.cfm

Someone once told me the English have a saying about Americans and tea that goes something like this: "The best tea goes to the East. Europe gets the second-best tea. America gets what they sweep off the floor." This probably explains why most Americans don't care for tea. Sending the crap to us has done little to expand the market so I don't know what good it's done tea importers. Most of us DO actually have taste buds and brains.

I regularly hang out with people from all over and one of my Egyptian friends gave me some Lipton tea bags he gets at a middle eastern market. He warned me it would be nothing like our Lipton tea (which I don't drink because it sucks, anyway). Holy cow. IT WAS S.T.R.O.N.G.. An entirely different taste. Of course, that was black tea.

I come from a long line of tea drinkers but, though I had a hard time adjusting to green tea at first, it's pretty much my standard now. I have several big cups during my work hours but when I'm off (like now) I pretty much drink it all day. I've tried most every green tea I've found but rely on Kroger green tea bags. Quite strong and tasty. I'll switch to iced soon but am still drinking it hot and plain. The Kroger grocery store chain was actually founded by back in the day by a family of tea merchants - and it shows. Good stuff.

LOVE those Tazo teas. Used to be a total coffee addict and then caught a bug a few years back that never had coffee taste the same again. Became a tea convert. Love the Tazo Green Ginger - very yummy.

But my latest find is white tea and I get mine from Teavana. Gotta' say I'm drinking it mostly for weight loss right now, but the fact that it tases oh so good is a definite plus. I would agree to ditch the Lipton types and at least TRY one of the specialty places. You might change your mind and not have to gag it down. Good luck.

I remember you hated Stash but their red tea is not dust and it's the most delicious stuff, ever. Haven't had it in a while, since I switched almost exclusively to green, but the memory of it... ummm...

I agree that Tazo's Awake is the closest to a good loose black tea. Stash is horrible and Celestial Seasonings is even worse. I buy my tea loose from Harney & Sons in CT. My favorite right now is a blend of darjeeling and assam. Once you get into drinking these it is impossible to go back to Lipton etc.

I'll give the red tea a try since someone brought some in.

green tea and nausea

I really feel left out of this green tea health kick that the world is on! Green tea really upsets my stomach. I feel nauseated! I tried green tea supplement pills and those were even worse. I keep wondering if anyone else on the planet has this problem, as every article I read about green tea only talks about how great it is for everyone. I've tried many green teas with no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

Gosh, Ann, I haven't heard of that before. I wonder if it's something you're adding to the green tea? Or something else in the tea bag? Or maybe the caffeine bothers you. Do you drink coffee? Curious.
