Let's talk about Blagojevich

I don't know if I spelled his name right, but I think you all know who I mean. I think we can discuss this w/o flames b/c I'm pretty sure it's nonpartisan. Dem or Rep, none of us would advocate corruption.

One good thing that's come out of this for me: I realized NJ is the SECOND most corrupt state in the union.

I can't believe the arrogance. I kind of recovered from the disgust of seeing a governor try to sell a senate seat, but his unwillingness to resign, even his unwillingness to ADMIT HE COMMITTED A CRIME seems incredibly delusional. YOU'RE ON TAPE YOU JACKASS! How do you explain THAT?

And now he's refusing to resign. What a dope. Nothing like being booted out of your job publicy. Rumor has it he's using it as a negotiating point. Like, "give me five years probation & I'll leave quietly." Personally, I hope they throw the book at him.

From a political science standpoint, this has been the best year in politics EVER! :D

I kid you not...I know of people who danced in the aisles of their office buildings the morning he was arrested. One department actually ordered a cake and officially celebrated. He has made many enemies.

I will say this: He has stood up for women's reproductive rights in this state.

I was dancing in my family room. This man has been the bane of Illinois for 6 years, and it is ridiculous how he has treated anyone South of Chicago. Now perhaps you folks can understand why I dislike Chicago politicians!

HAHAHAHA!! For real about the hair - move over Donald Trump, here comes "The Rod"!!!

I work with members of Congress and thier staff every day. It's sad to see how much corruption there is; the dealmaking, reciprocity, etc., etc., is sickening. There are some good people out there, though, which is what keeps me hanging on.

It's unbelievable to me how arrogant these people are. They really believe they have done nothing wrong - it's kind of creepy. The regular people can see it, but they can't. Kind of like Ted Bundy. He could look right at the camera and tell you that he did nothing wrong - and I think he believed himself!

The 5th grade classes do a government unit, and go to Springfield to tour the capitol and other Springfield sites. My daughter was in 5th grade 5 years ago and during the capitol tour one we saw the Gov's office. One child ask the guide if the Gov was there today, and the guide just smiled....because the Gov never was, or is there. The lawmakers were nice to the kids though, they were there.

When the U of I basketball team went to the final four in 2004, they were honored at a football game the following fall. For some reason Bloggy decided he needed to be there.....he got booed by the entire crowd.

Everyone was giddy last week, because we finally are shed of him, at least we hope.

LOL! His hair reminds me of the guy in "Million Dollar Listing" on HGTV. And he thinks it looks hot! I'm dying to see either of them in a windstorm! :D

I know how you feel Liz. I work for local govmt & our assemblyman was arrested for taking bribes over the summer. I was shocked--I'd always thought he was one of the good guys. :( After that I feel like I can't tell the difference betw. the good guys & the bad guys anymore.

LW, I'd heard of this guy before but didn't know much about him. But from what I've heard over the last week, crime isn't new to him. Remember that news conference before all this happened? When he said he knew he was being recorded? What the fudge? Is he so incredibly arrogant that he thought that even after the AG's office caught him on tape that they'd just let him go? Jesus!

He is so arrogant, he is refusing to resign. We now know why it took him forever to do anything(besides the fact he would not come down to Springfield and work with the lawmakers). He was probably looking at whatever angle he could to make money before he signed anything.

How did he get elected? Well in 2002, George Ryan(another Chicago politician now in jail), was not rerunning because of the pending charges. The Republicans put someone called Jim Ryan up against Blaggo. Blaggo was charismatic, had a beautiful family, talked pretty about change, and fighting corruption, and had tons of money to run ads against Jim Ryan that every minute of every hour seemed to air pointing out same name, probably same crimes. So he won.

What makes me scratch my head is the 2006 election, but the count downstate was against him, he was elected by Chicago, and apparently they were blind to his issues. He also had a ton of money again and really slammed Judy Barr Topinka(who was not the best candidate to pit against him). Downstate the green party candidate actually did pretty well, but you just cannot go against the Chicago voting machine.

Perhaps this will be the catalyst to get Illinois out the pit it is in, but there are a lot more politicians that need to go first.

I think they're related. Or at least share a stylist.

He's been under investigation for years. I couldn't tell you how many ~ Dorothy, do you know?

No one was surprised when he was arrested. It was just a matter of "when."

DH wonders if he had a significant amount of dirt on others that led him to believe he was untouchable.

I know when he reran in 2006 they were already investigating him. We all knew it down here, that even then it was only a matter of time before he was caught. I think names will start coming out, either from him, or from others involved that want to cut a deal.

He has total disdain for downstaters, and cannot work with the legislature. We have not had a balanced budget for over 2 years, and the state is in debt and cannot pay its bills. I think it will be interesting to see how much Emile Jones is involved in all of this. If it smells, it probably is a skunk.

He needs to resign and let Pat Quinn, who seems like a good guy, take over.

A Governor trying to sell a Senate seat? This guy seriously believed he could do that. Sick, arrogant little moron with Stage I Trump Hair. Unbelievable.

Did anyone see SNL this weekend? They did a funny skit about him on "Weekend Update" and of course made plenty of jokes about his hair :)

LOLOLOL - the pictures of him and the million dollar listing agent are hilarious!

Seriously - the hair and the close set eyes give me the creeps!

And how about the wife and her family. This is one tangled mess!

I saw the SNL skit-hilarious! As a fellow Serb, I'm embarassed to be of the same ethnicity as such a despicable person. Hope he gets what we all know he deserves.

Blago made the mistake of thinking he was in the same league as Daley, in terms of corruption. Daley is one of the most corrupt politicians to ever exist, but he's untouchable because he's not an arrogant dumba** like this guy.
Simply put. He's not Daley.

At this point, I seriously question our ability as a state to vote for anyone. We clearly do not have good judgement (I voted for Blago both times, I'm ashamed to say). We should have our voting priveledges revoked. :(
