length of workout?

i am amazed at the amount of time some of you have to spend working out! when i check threads like the daily checkin.. i see where some of you are doing 2 or more hours of working out! WHERE do you find the time? so you work outside the home? i do.. and i get up at 4:30 so that i have time to wake up, get dressed and workout, shower and get dressed before leaving for work... i can do workouts that are an hour or slightly over (i've been known to do viper at 1 hour 20 min).. but that's the limit.. i can't/won't get up any earlier!

so how do you superwomen :D find the time to workout for HOURS every day!

I'm amazed myself with the amount of workout time some of you can get in...especially if you have young families. I don't know how/what I could have done back then.
Being SLIGHTLY older...hey!...I only have to consider my work schedule & of course it would be nice if I had time to clean the house every year or two. ~sigh~
Bottom line being, I get up early & do about an hour to 90 min.'s & then shower, throw on my clothes, and it's time to go. In the evening, IF I don't work late, I may have the energy to tack on another half-hour of cardio. On my days off, I almost always do 2 long workouts, but not necessarily back to back.
That's about as much as I can manage.

I work out for 45-60 mins on most days. That's all I can take! :-(

I don't know if it's because I'm not as motivated as others, I don't have the endurance or a little bit of both....to do 2 LONG work outs in one day!?! HOLY COW!

Is this awesome drive a lot of you gals have mostly due to your love for Cathe!? If so, that is AWESOME and I hope she does the same for me!:)

I usually workout an hour a day or less (recently, I've been sticking to 30-45 minute workouts most days of the week).

I don't think that working out more than an hour a day is necessary, so don't feel bad if you don't do it!

I'm like you. I am out the door at about 7 AM and don't get home till about 8:30 at night. I have to put in long hours and I work some on the weekends.I travel for my job too. Then there is cleaning the house and errands I don't usually get a chance to do till the weekend.I usually get in about 5-6 days/week when not traveling and workout for about an hour except on the weekends when I can usually do a little bit more. I workout very soon after I get home. If I don't pop that DVD in immediately, I likely won't do it at all. If I'm not up for an intense workout..I do something less intense and shorter. Remember its not about the length of your workouts..its about working out smart. You need your rest too. You won't see fitness and strength gains unless you build in those rest days.

I can only work out for an hour a day. Any more than that and I'll have a little boy nagging me for spending too much time with my weights or on my step bench (although he enjoys watching me do KPC). Also, any more than an hour a day -- for 6 days -- and my body goes on some kind of vendetta. The fatigue creeps in, and I have to take a long break. I'm just doing maintenance now, so it doesn't really pay to work harder than I need to. And to my surprise, working out this way allows me to lift heavier than I could imagine myself managing -- even though I'm not looking to lift heavier at the moment.

RUTH! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-020.gif All you can manage??? You're a workout machine, in my book, kiddo. YMMV, of course, but my personal belief is that an hour "ish" a day six times a week is optimal-to-even-slight-overload depending on what else is going on in your life. Do you have a rest day every week? (IMHO, that's a MUST.) It's all about balance (at least it is at my age. ;-))

I work out between 45 minutes and an hour and a half, it depends. Mostly on what I have planned for the evening, meetings or whatever. Because I work out as soon as I get home from work. Weekends I tend to workout longer too.

I workout six days a week.

Ditto to that. I do 6 days a week, with Friday being my off day. I'm dying by then, exhausted by work. I work out 45-60 minutes at 5 am during the week (2 cardio and 1 UB weights and 1 LB weights) and then 60-90 minutes each day on the weekend (1 total body weights and 1 cardio).

It really depends on my schedule. I shoot for an hour 6 days a week, but then some days I have early meetings, I travel, etc. so then just try to squeeze in 30 minutes or just a quick stretch! If I have more time on the weekends then I may do the Guantlet or some combo that's longer. But today I had Xmas shopping to do so I squeezed in 10/10/10 before the mall and I was happy!

I do about an hour a day, maybe more on weekends. It is recommended to do cardio for an hour a day I think five times a week, whereas it used to be only 20" a day three times a week. You have to consider that a lot of us have sedentary jobs anyway and the convenience of cars, elevators, computers etc. I think that's why they raised the recommendation. I keep trying to convince my DH of that, though. But anyway, with modern day conveniences, I strongly agree that at least an hour a day, 6 days/week is best. Sometimes too much is a burn out too.

Oh yes, I absolutely agree that rest is essential. I take off either Saturday or Sunday depending on my schedule. Occasionally I take both! I only tack on 30 min's of cardio at night because it's recommended if you're trying to lose weight. ~sigh~ And even so, I only do it if I'm home before 11PM and if I'm just too exhausted I may let it go. It's usually light to moderate cardio. I do my intense cardio in the morning or, most especially, on my days off.

Right now I'm concentrating on cardio & basically doing "maintenance" strength. I figure I'll have another month after Christmas to start building back up for Hardcore. It's hard though...I love cardio but I love lifting more.

Also, approx. 3 - 4 times a year I will take off an entire week. No workouts of any kind. It used to scare the heck out of me, but I now know it does amazing things for me. When I come back, I find I've actually GAINED strength. My endurance may be down a tad, but it's back to normal within a week.

Last but not least, I try to listen to my poor old body. If it's saying no, I've learned to not push it. I found out the hard way how that leads to injury.

Kathy...what is YMMV??

Ruth:)
p.s. BTW, you ain't seen nothing yet...check out Mariangeles' rotations. They would kill me! LOL
