Leg results with P90X

I know there are a million posts on here about P90X and I read through many of them. It seems like it does a great job building the upper body, but how does it do with the lower body? I am really in the mood the change things up (not that I don't LOVE Cathe, but I just need something different), but I want something to lean out and tone my lower half while defining my upper body. Anyone who's done P90X, how well did this program do that?

Thanks,

Katie

I did P90X starting back in November. While I don't think I acheived great strides with my lower body, it definitely gets a workout. Only one weighted leg workout, legs/back but it always gets me in the glutes. Also PlyoX gives you quite a leg workout.

I'm not doing p90X rotation now but I still throw in Legs and Back when I want my glutes to be real toasty.

When I first started dooing the X, I was worried about the leg workout. But for me, I was very very happy with my lower body after the 90 days. By butt has never been lifted like it was after the 90 days. My legs were in great shape. For me, all of the plyo, Kenpo, yoga, and the one leg workout really really worked for me.

I got the best results I've EVER gotten, in ALL areas, from the X. It's a great program - in addition to the incredible strength workouts, my cardio capacity didn't suffer at ALL. When I finished my first round, I jumped right back into my hard core Cathe cardio workouts like I never left, and was able to participate in a 10k that I didn't train for at ALL. I finished with a solid, respectable time. The X really covers it all.

And how is it for a non advanced person? My husband wants to do it with me, but he hasn't been doing weights regularly for awhile. Will he still be able to do it?

That is great that your DH wants to do it with you. It sure worked for us. I would suggest that your DH does the fit test first to make sure that it is for him. If not, then maybe start with P90?

Katie -

From my understanding, P90 is easier than P90X. Now I have never done P90, but a lot of people have recommended it if P90X was too intense for them.

My DH before P90X lifted weights off and on. But he did the program with me and quickly upped his weights. He started a little light for him until he got use to the rotation.

Good luck with P90X. I love it. I am actually starting another rotation with a group of gals on April 2. If you are interested in finding more, you can go to the check-in's. There are 2 P90X check-ins. I am with the Xers check-in. We love having people coming around. Also check out the BB website. There is a ton of info on P90 and P90X. Look under the forums if you haven't all ready.

Thanks for all your help. I just ordered it. I hope I get it in time to start Monday. They are offering free upgraded shipping (5-7 days), so I'll keep my fingers crossed it gets here in time. I'd love to join in on a check in to help keep me motivated. I'm excited to see what kind of results I get!

Great!! I hope that you like it as much as a lot of people here do. And I hope you get it in time.

So, Katie, off topic, I peeked at your profile and my DH and I are making a trip out there in May. Can you suggest anything for us to do? We were thinking of hiking and of course eating at Oregano's is a MUST!!! We are also seeing a ball game. But any other fun activities to do???

Lea

For me, P90X lower body didn't keep my booty where I like it to be! My rear needs deadlifts and/or step ups or somekind of weighted lower body work to fight gravity, and P90X didn't give me enough. I didn't notice until I was about half-way through my rotation,.and even adding some heavy Rockit squats to the lower body workout wasn't enough. I needed to do some post-P90X butt rehab with Firm workouts and the Transfirmer to get things moving back in the right direction.

Lea,

Aw, a fellow Oregano's lover!!! It's my fav!! When will you be here? Give me the dates and I'll see if there is anything fun going on.

I found I needed to add TJ as doubles to X to lean out my lower body! This is my focus area (like lots of women).

My thighs are MUCH more toned than ever before. Still have a way to go on the back thighs though! A relatively clean diet has helped too!

Hi Robyn!!! Nice to see you check in. I was trying to pm you, but couldn't. I just want to say that you are such an inspiration to me. I am sure that I have said this before but I will say it again, that you have been very nice and informative to us who have tried and are going to try the X.

BTW, you look great. Your avatar is just amazing. I was curious about the TJ's. They have seemed to have really helped you, so I have read on BB. Anyone in particular that you do?

A few of us are starting round 2 in April and doubles, so thanks for the info.

Katie! I'm one of the group starting Round 2 on April 2nd. I sure hope you join in with us! My DH is doing P90 and finding it pretty tough, but he's never lifted weights before, or done video workouts. For him, P90X would have been way too much to start with. I think he has a quiet ambition to do P90X some day, though.

I like to supplement the P90X leg workouts, primarily because it's the one area where you use the same workouts for the whole 13 weeks. Cathe's lower body is more thorough, IMO. "Legs & Back" is a very good workout, no doubt, I just want to hit the muscles at different angles for variation.

Cheers,
Sandra

Sandra,

I might start P90X this Friday with my dh. It's supposed to arrive today! :) Can I join your check-in? I could use all the support I can get if I do it!

Hi there 6Swans4me, not Sandra, but am part of the Xer group. Please come on over!! The more the merrier. See you soon:).

6swans...
Another X frad here from X'er CheckIn! Come on over!!!! I'll be starting round 2 with 3 other Xers on Monday!!!

Since the leg work in the X is so sparse I am adding in an extra leg day with Cathe. I like the legs and back work out and think it's effective but it's just not enough for me. My legs have slimmed down since doing the X. :)

6swans4me,

I'll just echo LeaX and TraciX and say "Yes, please join us! We'd love to have you!"

LeaX and TraciX - now that we've got potentially two new members, can I drop out and let one of them take my place? :p :p
