lashes falling and thinning out

Hi,

I swear it seems though over night my lashes became short and hard to curl. At first I though I had maybe purchase a defected eyelash curler (Maybeline) no big deal, but I went through 5 curling eyelash curlers before realizing that I had less lashes over night. One day very early in the morning my kids had a soccer game 2 hours away from home, so we left very early in the morning withoug me having time to do anything once we got there I decided to freshen up a little (it was a very cold morning in January) and took out my new eyelash curler but lashes wont curling so I kept insisting finally realizing that maybe the curler was defected, after that was not able to curl my lashes even after purchasing new eyelash curlers. Do you think I damage my lashes or maybe pulled them out by insisting in curling them in the cold weahter? Any tips on a how to make lashes appear thicker and any suggestions on a good lash gentle curler that won't continue to damage my lashes? Thanks!

I cannot imagine a lash curler causing your lashes to fall out. There are, however, some lid diseases that can cause that. Do you have any other symptoms? Google blepharatis and see if you have any other symptoms (it is harmless - just sort of a pain to deal with). Hypothyroidism can make them fall out, an allergic reaction to a cosmetic, diet - lots of things are possible. Maybe the lash curler thing just happened coincidentally with one of these conditions. You can go to your drugstore and buy OCuSOFT Lid Scrub Plus (under $10). It comes in either a foam pump or pads. Just gently wipe the product across your lids, being careful to also get it where you lash follicles are, and leave it on (it doesn't burn). If you do have a bacterial thing going on, it should eradicate it. Also, don't gross out, but there are these little mites called Demodex that can live on our lashes and in the follicles. If something gets off and they multiply, they can also make your lashes fall out. The lid scrub ( you don't actually scrub your lids - it is very, very gentle and moisturizing) will help get those under control too - just be sure to leave it on. I do research for the company that makes it. If you can't find it, and are intereste in trying it, just let me know.

Hmmmm, I do think lash curlers can do this. If you use it daily I would think (and I'm not too sure here, but...) that eventually the lashes would get sliced off due to the stress of being curled every day. Especially if you use it after you apply mascara. Mascara has a tendency to dry out lashes and make them brittel. But I've never used eyelash curlers so I really don't know.

My lashes go through a "shedding" period about every 4 months. I've noticed there are times they are long and look the same length and then there are times when one or two are cut in half and it's hard to get mascara on them. Not sure why this happens.

Anyways, hope you can figure it out!

Waterproof mascara can cause this too. It's often difficult to remove and you might be tearing out your lashes trying to remove the mascara.

The eye drops used for glaucoma patients will actually make your lashes grow.

Thats the weird thing I don't wear mascara and only curl my lashes on the weekends. I'ts so weard the maybeline eyelash curler that I use to use for years and years does not curl my lashes anymore. I just purchase a new eyelash curler from Sally Hansen (I believe thats the brand) that one is curling my lashes but its hard to grab any lashes at all so I end up clamping my eyelid. I know thining lashes is part of growing older but to happen over night scares me a bit. Thank you all!
