Ok....I posted a few weeks ago questioning laser hair removal!
Well - I went for a few consultations....and.....I'M GETTING IT!!!:) I decided to do underarm and bikini area. My first treatment will be July 20th. So, I'll update you more after.

For those that may be thinking about doing it....so far, I can only say (since I haven't actually had it done yet) but, is to seek out a few different places. Because alot of the prices aren't completely fixed....the place I choose (American Laser Center) was able to work on the price (a little bargining). BUT - IT IS EXPENSIVE!!!! I can't believe I'm spending all this $$$$. I hope its worth it.

I'll keep you posted.....

HAPPY 4th of July to ALL!!!

Ooh, I am doing something similar- IPL hair removal, uses intense pulsed light instead of lasers. I also did my underarms and bikini line, can't tell you how TOTALLY COOL it is to just pull on a bikini without worrying for a second about shaving or whatever!

It was a little over $2000 for both areas for me.

I did notice my underarms seemed a little "sweaty" for a while, but that went away. Otherwise, no problems at all!

I can't wait to be able to throw a swim suit on!

The cost for me was about the same - $1900 for both underarms and bikini.

Did you notice a difference after the first treatment??
How many treatments do they suggest for IPL? For Lasers - it is about 6 -8 varies for the individual. Can't wait :)

I did notice a difference after one treatment. Actually, for about a week afterwards, your hair will kind of be in a "falling out" stage, like shedding, and may seem a little more abundant. After that, I probably shaved my underarms twice the rest of the month before my second treatment. My bikini line they do every six weeks (underarms every four) and I honestly think I had almost NO hair growth the whole six weeks on that, I just shaved before my second treatment just for good measure i guess! I got a package which is eight treatments for each area.

Did they tell you to be careful about tanning? I guess it makes a difference on how effective the treatment is. Hard to do during the summer, especially when it is so easy to hit the pool now that I don't have razor burn! i was never able to wax, made me break out so this is truly a godsend. Anyway, good luck, congratulations on making a great decision- it'll be worth it!;-)

Congratulations and good luck with the treatments. I absolutely love mine. Price checking is a must and some places definitely bargain. When my DD signed up for her's early this year, the price started out at $5000. When we baulched, the respresentative started looking up "specials" they were having and started coming down. Finally came down to a price similar to other places that I had checked and she decided to go with it since this place had a better guarantee period. When I had mine done it was an hourly rate. You don't find places like that very often now.

But before you guys throw on a swimsuit, don't you still have to shave your legs? I am so sick of shaving every day. x(

Hi...they did mention the "shedding"stage afterwards and to be careful about tanning. Which is so hard! And I'm leaving for a beach vacation. They said to use a high spf sun block. Which I will....heck, if I'm spending almost 2 grand, I want it to work. They also give you a 2 year guarantee after your 6 - 8 treatments. So, if any hair returns, you can come back for more treatments for up to 2 years. Which is great:)

Its so reassuring to hear the success stories....I am so excited now!

Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'll keep ya posted as I'm going thru it:)

I think you will really enjoy the results of this. I had my DD in dermatology do this for my underarms. It took several treatments but the results are great. One or two hairs to take care of but it worked well. Laser hair removal works best on dark hair. I wish I could do my legs but too light of hair:(

Can someone enlighten me on the difference between IPL and laser removal?

I'm the perfect candidate. Dark and hairy, yet fair :)

Oh no, maybe that was too much information!

Best,

A note about tanning, which someone else mentioned:

Do NOT tan or lay out in the sun for several days before treatment. This does not have anything to do with how effective the treatment will be. It has everything to do with your skin will burn if you tan. They use a rectangular "crystal" to perform IPL treatments, and if you have tanned before a treatment, you will come away with a rectangular burn mark where the laser burned the skin through the crystal.

I strangely have hardly any hair on my legs. I get about 5-10 hairs growing on the inner parts of my calves, but that's it! However, my bikini line more than made up for it in the past...yikes...but no more!!

I keep an Intuition razor in my shower and a couple strokes takes care of it- when I bother to shave, that is!
