KPC: my left side lags behind...

Yesterday was my first time doing KPC, so like every new Cathe workout, I took it slow and easy. I did pretty well on the first half hour of the workout. Then came those high-intensity combos. I was surprised by how fast I got it -- on my RIGHT side. Then I had to shift to my left... The first two combos on my left, I merely lagged behind. (This is also true in Cathe's older kickboxing workouts.) But on the third one, my left side just won't do it. It was like my body wasn't connecting with my brain. What gives? And what can I do to make my left side keep up? Thanks.

Interesting that you should write this. The first time I did this workout those combos were impossible for me. I still have a hard time with the jump kicks and I don't even know why. I know how to do them, but my body won't go right. Its weird. This morning was my second time doing this workout and although I did a lot better then the first time, I still had a hard time with the jump kicks and some of the round kicks as well. Hopefully with the third try, I will have mastered it!

I suggest doing the moves starting with your left side (though it may be awkward doing the opposite of what Cathe is doing. Maybe you could set up a mirror across from the TV and watch the workout "backwards"?) so it's able to get a good workout before it is too tired. For kicks especially, the leg that is worked second has already done some work in stabilizing the body for kicks, so it's somewhat pre-exhausted.

Hi Pinky what Kathryn said was a great idea but if you do have a dvd player why don't you go to the mix and match and start on the left side first.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I don't have this problem with stepping, only with kickboxing. Next time, I'll do my left side first and see how that affects my mind-body connection.:) Thanks again.

An even better idea! I didn't realize the chapters were divided by sides.

Hi Bobbi, I do cue myself out loud (scream at myself is more like it :) ) but my left side fails me. I guess I just need more practice. Let my left side get more attuned to what it's supposed to do. I actually got myself some of Billy Blanks' workouts. I have been stepping for too many years and I need a cardio workout that isn't too hard on my knees, shins and ankles. Thanks for the suggestion.

I screa too! It's funny because I am a morning person and my husband night person and the poor man gets up and quitly reads before work and when I workout, it's very noisy around here. He always retreats to the netherr regions of the house!

To adages come to mind! "Practice makes perfect" and "If at first you don't suceed, try, try again", which of course is what we all do anyway, everytime we pull out the workout that is tricky for us! You'll get it! My left side is smaller and weaker than my left and I don't think it would harm me in anyway nor cause imbalance to thorw in an extra round on that side anyway!

Hi Bobbi, somehow I feel sorry for your hubby :7 but... you gotta do what you gotta do.

Talking about the "weak side" got me thinking: if in kickboxing, my left side lags behind, then why is it that when I'm weight training, my right side feels the soreness and fatigue sooner, and my left side can last longer? Is it because my right is the stronger side and tends to exert more effort, even though my left side is dealing with exactly the same weight? Just a thought...

Thanks for the encouragement. I know I'll get this in time.
