KK's September Check In

Netta

Cathlete
Good morning Karen, Rhea, Becky and anyone else,

I haven't been to the blog yet, but will check it. I'm scared to look too.

Today is my day off which makes a 4 day holiday for me!!! Today's workout was a 46 minute SJP circuit premix (step only, no hi-lo). Good workout and I love the music in this. I'm hoping that Cathe is less serious in these new workouts. Hardcore was pretty serious demeanor wise, I think. I like it when she's more lighthearted. Just my preference, that's all.

Last night's hill climb race was awesome! I beat my best time by 6 minutes and passed 2 guys on the steepest part of the hill and then left them way behind in my rear view mirror. Also, my bike chain fell off at one point and I had to stop and put it back on which took a little time so I would have been more than 6 minutes faster. Previous time 2 weeks ago was 46 minutes flat, time last night was 40 minutes 07 seconds. I also won a pair of cycling socks for being the 1st woman up the hill (I was the only one LOL). Actually 2 other lady friends I have did the climb but didn't want to be timed as they weren't going for a time, just making it up. Think there was a total of 11 riders including the ladies. It is a tough, tough hill. I looked at my speedometer once during the steepest part and I was going 3 miles per hour. Know I could have walked faster.

We're going camping this weekend and hoping to leave tonite so I need to get some shopping and packing done today.

Hope everyone has great workouts today and a fabulous weekend!

Jeanette

Jeanette - that is AWESOME!! That is such a tough hill, even for a car. What a great time. How are your legs today? Have a great time camping! I'm Golfing, and working out.....yippeee. I also have vacation next week, so I'm really excited. Of course, right now I'm rushing around trying to get things done....

Rhea, my legs are good today, though I was winded for my workout this morning. After a hard bike ride, I always huff and puff the next day when going up the stairs at work. Think it has something to do with leg fatigue and needing more oxygen or something. Anyway, they aren't stiff or sore or anything. I have been going easy on lunges and squats lately, light or no weights.

Hope you have a GREAT time on your vacation. Mine is later in September, DH and I are going to the Redwoods and then Bandon, Oregon.

I love the description of Drill Max. I was dreading that it would be all cardio and tough tuck jumps, plie jacks, hi impact stuff but it doesn't look like it will be all that. Really looking forward to it.

Jeanette

Good afternoon ladies.

Jeanette, I am psyched about Drill Max too. Actually, I am psyched about all the workouts!

Rhea, have a great time on vacation.

Karen, I hope your workout went well today.

Today was my last quiz of the week. It went great. I am so exhausted tonight...I refuse to study...I will relax w/ DH all night long! That is SOOOOO needed.

This AM I did IMAX 2 and then Coremax seg 1. IMAX 2 is so much fun. I even enjoyed interval 9 today. Tomorrow I do BootCamp for the first time. I am really looking forward to that.

The rest of this long weekend will be a study-fest. My block exam is on Friday. I will treat myself Friday after the test...going to go to the salon and get my hair done and then have DH take me to a nice restaurant. That will be great since I probably won't hardly come up for air starting tomorrow morning. Second year is such a marathon!

Hope everyone has a great Friday night!

-Becky

Hi Ladies!:)

Wow, Jeanette! Way to go! That's incredible that you beat your time by 6 minutes and had to put your chain on. Wow! And you passed two guys. Yes!

Rhea -- what good news. Vacation. Hope it's incredibly fun. Doesn't drrill max look like fun -- it looks like a kind of workout I don't normally do -- which I'm really looking forward to.

Becky -- I did IMAX2 today, as well. Was supposed to be IMAX3, but I didn't sleep well last night, and so I changed it to the one I like the best -- IMAx2. And I'm also scheduled to do Bootcamp tomorrow. You're gonna love Bootcamp. It's one of my favorites.

Well, I'm going to be working tonight, cause I spent some time this afternoon getting my hair trimmed -- so I have to work a little tonight -- but that's okay.

Jeanette, Rhea, Becky & Natalie -- have a wonderful and super weekend!:7

Good evening ladies. I hope everyone's weekends are going well.

This AM I did Bootcamp (as promised) and this PM I did 50 minutes on the elliptical machine with my pharmacology notes.

I have so procrastinated studying today. I didn't get anywhere near as far as I had wanted. Luckily, this is a 3 day weekend. I guess I needed the break.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 15 minutes of ab hits and then a stretch, but I will probably do more since I am beginning to stress about this exam on Friday. I haven't decided what yet though.

Oh, and Bootcamp was crazy difficult. Today was the first time I have ever done that one. I don't know what it was about it...I don't die when I do any of the IMAXes but that one had me really over heating. Maybe I should have eaten something before that one!

-Becky

Edited to say I have updated www.mcgilligan.us with more fitness pics (after the Cardio Blast rotation I did) and some random pics with friends (Fondue party).

Good evening ladies.

I am getting ready to start my next rotation. I will bedoing FitnessFreak's Circuit Rotation. I am really excited.

Today was supposed to be 15 minutes of Ab Hits and a stretch, but I was too stressed out to not get my HR up.
This AM I did Leaner Legs (for the first time...OUCH!) followed by some supermans and planks from Ab Hits. This PM I studied microbiology on the elliptical machine for 55 minutes.

Here's my schedule for the week:
Monday: Low Max plus segment 3 of Coremax
Tuesday: The Viper
Wednesday: Step Blast plus segment 2 of Coremax
Thursday: Circuit Max plus 15 minutes ab hits
Friday: GS Legs (test day)
Saturday: CTX Upper Body plus All Step (skipping shoulders)

I have so much studying to do this week. Luckily, I only have class on Tuesday and Wednesday, so I have all Monday and Thursday to study. I will definitely be spending some time on the elliptical to calm my nerves.

Hope everyone had a great Sunday!

-Becky

Hi!:)

Becky, it may be only me and you on the site today and tomorrow, as I know Jeanette's camping and Rhea's on holiday.

Anyway, isn't Bootcamp something? Believe it or not, though, after you do it a few times, it gets so it's not quite so stressful. But those terminators get me every time. I take out the jump, and only in that way am I able to keep up with them. Whew!x(

I did Bootcamp on Saturday, as well.

Still struggling with my weight -- but I'm eating differently now than I did before -- eating more raw fat -- so I really need to keep up my workouts. At least the weight's down to the high end of what I can tolerate.

Remember that we're pretty good listeners, so if you need to, just jump on and feel free to communicate. I know the stress must be really something. My ex-brother-in-law is a baby doctor (can't spell that word, pediatrician) -- and his stress level in medical school, according to him, was outrageous.

You are so wise, though to take out the stress with working out.

Okay, so you must know that I went and looked at your pictures again. Wow, what a difference that Cathe rotation made. I could really see the difference -- you look all toned up and pretty. Truly, it's quite a difference. Well done, Becky.

Also looked at the fondue pictures. You are so pretty, Becky -- and again, so toned. It really shows.

I didn't get as much done this weekend as I wanted. I worked yesterday most of the day, but today was housecleaning day and I didn't get any of my work done. I'm looking forward to tomorrow to get something accomplished work-wise.

Okay, so go get 'em, Becky. Oh, almost forgot -- I need to post my rotation: won't be running outside I don't think unless the weather changes -- it's unbearably hot and there's again pollen outside.

Mon: IMAX3

Tues: High Step Challenge

Wed: Cardio & stretch -- will pick the cardio on Wed.

Thurs: MuscleMax

Fri: IMAX2

Sat: Bootcamp

Breakdown: 5 days of cardio and plyometrics -- 2 days of anaerobics -- 3 days of weights. Again, I'll have to watch to make sure that I don't overdo it and get exhausted.

Have a wonderful day tomorrow, study well, Becky and have some terrific workouts.:7

Karen, thanks so much for the pep talk! I really needed that. I appriciate your vote of confidence. It is also good to know that BootCamp will eventually not kill me. Tomorrow's Viper very well may though. :). Oh, and you spelled pediatrician correctly.

I think this may be a stupid question, but what do you mean by "raw fat"? Just wondering. I am picturing you knawing on some raw meat, but I doubt seriously that is what you meant!

Your rotation this week looks super hard. I think you'll blast away that weight in no time!

This AM I did LowMax. I will do segment 3 of coremax later as a study break. In just a minute, DH and I are going to go to breakfast. We never do that except on vacation, so I am looking forward to this little treat. I am going to have some multigrain pancakes with fruit and nuts. Yummy!

I hope you have a great Labor Day! I think I will. I got quite a bit accomplished yesterday and am starting to have more confidence towards this test. Just got to plug away at it today too.

-Becky

Hi Ladies!:)

Hope your holiday was great -- I'm sure it was, and I can't wait to hear all about it.

Becky -- let's see -- by raw fat (I'm a bit of a health nut and read about it alot) I mean not cooked fat -- like raw dairy or coconut oil or olive oil or flax, which are processed below the temperature of 94 degrees. Francis Pottenger did a series of experiments back in the 1920's or 30's I believe -- on cats specifically -- and Edward Howell did experiments on raw foods as opposed to cooked foods, etc. and apparently, the body deals with raw foods much differently than cooked foods due to enzymes, etc. The only thing I've noticed is that I can eat more raw fat than cooked fat without gaining weight. But sometimes, I forget, and eat more than I should anyway.:+

Did I really spell that right? Sometimes I surprise myself...

How did the Vipor go today? That's one that I don't have -- I think it's the name that puts me off buying it. I remember the Viper ride at Fairs when I was little and the ride scared me silly.

Oh, how was breakfast? It sounds really fun. I love doing that, too, although we almost always eat at home.

It was a relaxing day, yet full of work for me. Accomplished some things that are a bit backlogged, so that's good. But now I realize that I have even more things to do...

Anyway, have a terrfic day, everyone, study well, Becky -- and super workouts!:7

Good morning ladies,

We had an awesome time camping this weekend, had our 2 sons come and stay with us, also helped us cut wood. We bought a Yamaha Rhino (side by side ATV, think small Jeep) on Friday afternoon and brought it out to the campsite. It was a lot of fun. The dogs ride in it just fine too. DH and I went on a night ride that was really cool too. It was a very relaxing time. Got home in the afternoon and after unpacking and such, did Muscle Max upper body with abs workout.

This morning's workout was about 40 minutes of Christi Taylor's Hi-Lo Heaven. I'm getting it little by little and it's really fun. Tonite will be a Cardio Coach workout on the bike.

Becky, I dreaded Bootcamp at first, until I did it. The hardest are the Terminators but like Karen says, you can leave out the jumps for a while. It's a great workout and you feel so accomplished when you finish. I have The Terminator DVD and it has great workouts on it, though you must have it cuz I think I saw where you did the Viper. You'll like it for your Circuit Rotation.

Rhea, hope you are enjoying your vacation. What a great time of year to go. We always vacation in September and it's usually pretty nice, plus it's less crowded.

Karen, you are soo good at getting things done. Wish I had some of your motivation. I tend to do the fun stuff and have to cram at the end to get other things done that should have been done long ago.

My folks flew home last night from the Azores. Can't wait to see them and hear their stories and see their pictures.

Must go now, great workouts everyone!

Jeanette

Hi Jeanette & Becky & Rhea & Natalie!:)

Jeanette, your trip sounds like such fun. And to have your two sons with you, as well... And a new Yamaha Rhino. Gee, really enjoy it -- what fun.

Your workouts sound great, Jeanette. By the way, did you look at the blog? Boy, I have no idea of what to suggest -- think I'll let -- oh, I can't remember her name -- but she is famous for creating wonderful workouts -- anyway, I bet she'll have some great suggestions.

Oh, by the by, I bought some new workout bras and a top yesterday. I know I shouldn't have splurged, but it does help to motivate me -- just having the new clothes...;-)

That's great that your folks are coming home from Azores. Bet they'll have great adventures to tell you.

Well, I have 3 different piles of work all awaiting my attention -- I'm not really that good at this motivation stuff -- not really -- I put things off till the last minute as well -- like three months to write an entire book...:+

Becky -- hope your studies are going well -- and keeping those workouts in.

Rhea -- hope your vacation is going great. Lovely time of year for a vacation.

Have a terrific day everyone and super workouts.:7

Good evening ladies.

Today I did the Viper for the first time. It was great. I loved it! Tomorrow is Step Blast and Coremax #2. I am looking forward to that.

Karen, thanks for the info on the raw fat thing. I think you are able to eat more of those because they are the unsaturated fats. They are actually good for our bodies.

I too saw the blog and I am so psyched about these new workouts! They should come in right around the time I have done all of my workouts at least once. After this circuits rotation I am doing a muscle building rotation using Slow & Heavy, Pure Strength, GS series, and PUB/PLB. Then I'll get the new ones. Woohoo!

Jeneatte, glad your workouts went well. I am happy you are enjoying Christi Taylor so much.

I had my first clinical preceptorship of this semester today. I was in a primary care office with a female family practice physician. I really liked her and her patients. I will be with her every other week on Tuesdays. We don't get too much clinical experience in the 2nd year. Our noses are mainly sutured to books, so this is fun and helps me realize why I am killing myself studying. Next year is all clinical with rotations in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Surgery, ER, Psychiatry, etc. That will be a blast! (especially the surgery and ER)

Oh, and breakfast was really great. I had multigrain pancakes with fruit and nuts. We'll have to do that periodically. I am really looking forward to Friday. Since I will have just taken my test, it is treat day! I am going to get my hair done, DH and I are going to a nice place for dinner, and then we're going to see a movie (not sure which one yet though).

Anyway, back to the books. I hope everyone has a great night.

-Becky

Good morning ladies!

This morning's workout was Legs & Glutes a mish mosh for about 40 minutes with stretch (concentrating more on floor work today). I'll do an upper body workout tonite. My Cardio Coach #3 workout on the bike was good last night, he has you do 30 second sprints, with short rests in between. I was definitely feeling it by the last one so I guess that's good.

Becky, glad you liked the Viper. I like it too! Enjoy Step Blast today. I really like the Body Blast series, heck they're all good, but the BB series is a lot of fun. Glad you enjoyed the pancakes, they sound and are really good I'm sure. Sounds like you and your DH take the time to spend quality time together and that's vital, especially for us busy women. Your clinical work sounds interesting and I think it would help with the motivation while doing all that tough studying.

Karen, not sure what workout you did yesterday but know it was a good one! You deserve the new workout clothes. I haven't bought any for a while and sure need to. Also badly need some new cycling shorts as they are getting thin in spots. I love new clothes but that's one of the last things I spend money on for some reason.

Rhea, hope your vacation is going well. You're probably playing golf and enjoying this warm weather (whew, it WAS a warm one yesterday).

Have a haircut after work today and then need to clean up the kitchen and tidy up the house.

Great workouts today,

Jeanette :7

Good evening ladies!

Jeanette, Legs and Glutes is my absolute favorite LB workout. I hope you had fun.

Karen, your rotation says a to be determined cardio. Hope you enjoyed it, whatever it was. :)

Rhea, how have your workouts been lately? I hope you had a great holiday weekend.

This AM I did Step Blast. I had actually never done the Blast Challenge before. That was fun...tying together all 3 step segments. This PM I did 50 minutes on the elliptical while reviewing Human Behavior and heart sounds and then I did Segment 2 of Coremax.

I don't have any classes tomorrow. This year the school blocks off the day before major exams so that we don't want to kill ourselves or others :) so I will enjoy studying in my PJs all day (or something just as comfy). Tomorrow I have Circuit Max planned and I'll probably follow it up with just a tad of Ab Hits.

Anyway, back to studying (except for the 45 minutes during dinner where DH and I watch the Nip/Tuck we Tivod last night :7 )

Have a great night everyone!

-Becky

Edited to be jubilant about the fact that today I officially hired a maid service for our apartment :7 :7 :7 ! I was getting tired of the only free time DH and I had together (Since this year is soooo full of studying) to be spent cleaning. Molly Maids is going to come every 2 weeks and make my house beautiful. I am so happy! Many of the female physicians have told us that we can't be "superwoman" and do it all and that we should get help either with the house or laundry or children (which I don't have). I want to be "superdoctor" so I am getting help with the other parts of life.

Hi Jeanette & Becky & Rhea & Natalie!:)

Actually yesterday I did HSC the entire thing -- I rarely do the entire thing -- usually opt for the premixes -- it was, indeed, challenging for me. And today I did 30 minutes of cardio from Step Fit, plus the warm up and then a good stretch on the ball. Still having to watch that weight...darn it. Although I'm not overweight per se, I'm at the high end, which is a little uncomfortable for me -- I'd like to be a few pounds lighter just to give me some cheating room...

Okay -- have so much work to do -- it's stacked up around my desk -- and have so much else going on -- when I'm on deadline, I ignore it all -- but now I can't... Drat...x(

Becky and Jeanette -- Legs & Glutes is my favorite lower body workout, too. Once I'm done with this rotation -- I might give it another few weeks -- I'm going to swing into doing lower body and upper body on separate days again -- that worked well for me when I was in Florida.

Becky -- enjoy studying in you PJ's -- I do that with writing, too -- once told the UPS guy (who always seems to come when I'm working in my pj's) that really, I do work...:+

Jeanette -- that Cardio Coach sounds like a super workout -- oh, and I hope that you enjoy your hair appointment -- and you, too, Becky.

I wish I could keep myself from spending money on clothes -- I'm probably not as bad as many people out there -- but I do so love clothes... Got motivated for new clothes seeing Cathe and the gang in all their new duds. Anyway, it's fun...

Rhea -- hope your vacation is great and that you're getting in lots of leisure time and golf.

And Natalie -- haven't heard from you in a while -- hope you're doing great, too.

Okay, so now Becky -- that's simply super -- getting a maid to do your cleaning. Wow -- way to go. I sometimes do that when under deadline. But I think you're friends are right -- you simply can't do it all -- all of the time -- and it creates jobs for others, as well. But well done.

Okay, so I must go -- it's supper time here -- gotta run and get stuff prepared. Have a super evening everyone and terrific workouts tomorrow!:7

Good morning!
Last night had a little company and also spoke with my mom on the phone. They will be home today! Did an upper body workout with the bowflex and free weights last night.

This mornings's workout was CTX Step & Intervals and then another 1/2 hour of Christi Taylor's Step Heaven (1st combo). I'm ready to move onto the next step section which features the step in a vertical position. Tonite will be a casual bike ride with a couple of girlfriends and then I need to do some mowing or may just skip it and go visit Mom & Dad instead.

Becky, you made me laugh about studying in your PJ's. I couldn't do it, though. I have to be fully dressed, makeup, the whole bit before I can concentrate (internet stuff doesn't count for me obviously, no makeup on right now!) Glad you got a housekeeper too. That's a wonderful splurge, but really will be worth it.

Karen, way to go on HSC! That one does keep you moving. Think I'll do a circuit in the morning, haven't decided which one yet. Have you ever done a one body part a day rotation? I did one a while back and it was effective. Not sure what I'll do next time. I can't wait for the new workouts!!

Must go now, been busy, busy at work but it's going well.

Hi Rhea, hope you're having a nice vacation!!

Jeanette

Hi ladies!

I am taking a gasp for air right now (from studying) and thought I'd give you the low-down on my workouts for the day. This AM I did Circuit Max and this afternoon I did around 70 minutes on the elliptical (studying various random subjects) and then around 10 minutes of Ab Hits.

Karen, congrats on completion of HSC. That is a doozie...especially those hammer punch lunges. I hate those things. Totally dread them. Sorry you aren't totally content with your weight. Are you sure it isn't muscle? I hit a all-time low and then went up a couple pounds with muscle gain.

Jeanette, how do you like Step and Intervals? That is the only one of the CTX that I haven't done yet. Glad your parents are coming back into town. I sometimes wish my parents lived closer (I am in FL and they are in Ohio).

Oh, and I have amazingly great news. Last month I had a PhD exercise physiology student measure my body fat % with calipers. It came out to 24%. Yesterday, I had her do it again and I am down to 20.6% I had hit an all-time low weight early this past month at 121 and now I am back to 122.5 or 123. That must be muscle gain. I am loving it! I think that adding this studying on the elliptical machine at night has really helped lower that body fat. (even though that wasn't the main reason for getting on the elliptical...I need it for stress relief).

Anyways, back to studying. I know you ladies live in CA, so you are 4 hours behind me, but if by any chance you are up between 4am-8am (your time) tomorrow say a little prayer or good wishes or whatever you do for luck for me please. I am uber nervous about this first block exam. The first ones are always the toughest.

-Becky

Hi Ladies!:)

It was MuscleMax for me today -- but the 56 minute premix -- I'd gotten up late this morning and figured I didn't have time for the entire workout. That is quite a workout, though I must admit to liking ME better.

Becky -- I will definitely say a prayer for you -- right now -- and I'll send you all kinds of good luck flows in the morning. And truly, go get 'em, Becky. Knock 'em silly.:)

Like Circuit Max and am thinking of adding it to my next week's rotation.

You know, I might think it was muscle building that might account for those pounds, but I don't think so -- I'm at that age where fat goes on rather quickly and easily -- and my measurements have changed a little bit -- and so I do think it's fat -- thing is, however, when I workout hard -- I tend to gain weight, not lose it -- so perhaps I'm building muscle, as well.

Jeanette -- well done on doing upper body on the bowflex and hand weights. Sounds like fun, actually. I was going to ask you a similar question as Becky. I've never done Step and Intervals. Can you tell me how this compares with the IMAXes? Is it at all similar?

I have only done one body part a day one week -- and that was on the TimeSaver DVD -- thought it went well, actually.

Well, still have worked piled up around me -- backlogs from being on deadline and so there's nothing for it but to dig into it and get it all done.

Am rooting for you, Becky. Go knock 'em for a loop. ;)

Have some super workouts everyone and a terrific day.:7

Edited to say that I hope you have fun with your mom and dad, Jeanette. :)

Good morning ladies,

This morning was Step, Jump & Pump step/weights circuit for 46 minutes. Fun workout. Last night was a 20 mile bike ride with a friend.

Here's the scoop, during the bike ride, we met up with my Ironman lady friend. She says we should do the triathlon on Sunday (sprint distance) so I'm crazy and actually considering it. The swim is 1/2 mile, the bike is 15 miles and the run 4 miles. Haven't swam in years (though I can) and haven't run at all this year (though I've talked about it). Anyways, I posted on the Open Forum discussion to get input. The link to the triathlon is posted there.

Becky, I'm thinking and praying for you during your exam. I know you'll do super! Yes, I like all of CTX's cardio workouts and I enjoyed Step and Intervals. They are short and effective, not grueling at all. Way to go on the body fat % dropping. That's wonderful news!!!

Karen, I like MM too, but I enjoy the music so much more in the Intensity Series and I like Cathe's demeanor better too, but MM is a good one. I know what you mean about the fat coming on easier as we get older, sigh. My job is pretty sedentary, wish it was more active. Are you doing a fat blasting rotation? At times I've found that less cardio helped me feel leaner, maybe it was less water retention, I don't know. You think you have it figured out and then your body figures it out too and you have to change it up. I swear if I was a livestock animal, they would love me as I'm an easy keeper. Efficient with my food (takes little to keep me going and not much to fatten me up).

Hope everyone has great workouts today. Yep, the triathlon will be on my mind today. Tomorrow will be a rest day, also have a surprise 50th birthday party for a friend to go to and then afterwards, DH and I will take the Rhino out (along with the dogs) for a ride in the afternoon/evening.
