Kitteh problem

So this past week, my three year old kitty Saki has decided that he no longer likes his litter box, and that my living room rug is now his bathroom of choice:(.

I just can't figure out WHY!?! I haven't changed his food, or brand of litter. I used to have both litter boxes on a table, so I moved one to the floor, that didn't help. I started cleaning the boxes more frequently, still didn't help. He doesn't seem to be in pain or anything, and he's still playing with the other cats, so his personality hasn't changed.

The only thing I can think of is that he's sick? Even though he's not showing any outward signs. Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?? TIA:D

Is he pooping or peeing on the floor or both? If he's pooping it may be because he's mad at you for some reason, my cat used to do that when I went on vacation for more than a few days. Maybe try to spend some more quality time alone with him. If he's peeing on the floor, it could be a sign of illness and you should take him to the vet ASAP.

If he is suddenly peeing outside his box I would check with the vet. Sometimes it can be a urinary track infection. Our elderly girl cat started doing that and it turned out she had kidney stones which cleared up with a special prescription diet. Good Luck! One other suggestion. Is he getting harassed by any of your other cats when using the box--like getting ambushed?

He's pooping AND peeing outside the box. The other cats leave him alone when he uses the litter box because it is in the basement away from the main living area. I was thinking maybe a UTI as well. I guess we'll be visiting the vet :(

Yes, definitely take him in then. It's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to the fur babies! :)

One of my cats decided he didn't like the box being covered. Do your boxes have covers? And you may want to try switching litter and see if that helps. I know you said you had not, but sometimes they decide that they don't like the feel of it anymore. I use Petsmart brand of Yesterday's News and change it daily. And definitely get him checked - he is telling you something...the trick is figuring out what that is! Is he running and jumping normally? Hope you get it figured out!
