Kirstie Alley in Bikini on Oprah

I don't really get why stars feel like they have to go on National TV in a bikini. Is that a publicity stunt or something?

But whatever. She should be proud of what she has achieved, so might as well flaunt it.:p

>Ehhhh her thighs are too huge for a bikini.

I understand this is your opinion, but I'm curious....

How will a one piece swimsuit cover her thighs? I didn't see her on Oprah, but from what I see in the picture, her tummy looked great in the two piece!

At 55, she's looking pretty darn sexy!

Did you watch Oprah yesterday? She had a plus size model on. A Dolce & Gabanna model who was GORGEOUS! Her curves were kicking!

Well, I have to admit the first thing I thought was, "Wow, her thighs are still that big and she's already lost 75 lbs!". Guilty, sorry!

But, I do think that it's amazing what she's accomplished and feel she will be a role model for others who are obese and want to lose weight and feel they can't.

What irks some people is relative! I find the comments about looking so good at 55 insulting. I guess that's because I'm 51 and know it can be done probably a lot easier than you younguns with children. Meaning, at middle age (UGH! I hate that term), children are gone and career is probably winding down and much more focus and time can be put on fitness and wellness :)

I think she looks great.
The big thigh comments was unneccessary as I have a big lower half but am comfortable to get in a bathing suit. You only live once, enjoy it while you can.

OK - it took me years to get comfortable with my body and I figure hey if you don't like what you see, don't look at me but that isn't going to stop me.

So go for it Kristie.

On that note, Dr. Oz was on Oprah the other day and said that as we age and move into "mid life" our metabolism's only slow down a very little bit and it's a myth that it slows way down, even with women and menopause. Anyway, he said the reason people in middle life start to lose their health and fitness is because they tend to move around less.

I was like you, I thought "for your age" comments were always left handed compliments. The truth is, even at my age (44), there are more out of shape women than fit women.
So really what they're saying is that it's amazing that you managed to keep fit and trim. You obviously worked for it. A fit & trim 40-50 year old is not the norm these days. Most of the women and men I know begin to let themselves go after marriage and children.

Considering the obesity rate here I think ANY ONE at ANY AGE should celebrate their own personal victories.... You may see someone on the street and think..oh look how fat/unfit they are but reality is that they very well could have just lost 100#s and are on the healthy road for life! IMO We need to stop judging so much.
REALLY- Kirstie did the great reveal for HER not cuz she gives a rip if anyone here thinks she has big thighs! GREAT FOR HER!!!!! I can only continue to work on being so comfortable in my own skin.... I applaude her

It takes a long time to work off fat from lower body as compared to upper, but she is doing good. She is looking really healthy. She will get there if she keeps going. She should be proud of what she has already accomplished.

Charlotte~~

Plus, you can't change where your body wants to store fat. Kirstie Alley is definitly a pear body shape. She will probably never trim down those thighs significantly. Is she lifting weights? I know she said exercise, but what does that mean.

All the comments about her thighs....didn't she have that thing wrapped around her butt? And when she walked it was constantly covered?? I thought WOW her butt must be her worst body part (you know what I mean).....

I would have to agree with you here!
I can only speak from my experience. I have one sister who is health conscience. The rest of my family believes eating whatever you want, gaining weight as you age, is perfectly normal. I know MANY people who live by the same school of thought. My MIL has decided she is much happier fat. Dieting makes her unhappy and you only live once.

My hair dresser thinks I'm nuts because I work out everyday.
In my world....I am not the norm.

Having thigh issues is a different story. I've always been a small size, but I carry my weight in my thighs. Hey, I wear a bikini. I look darn good for my age. I do not have the same 20 year old body I once had, but then again, I don't have the same 20 year old face either!

Thank goodness for J-LO! I would much rather be a JLo than a Nicole Richie.

And the comment about her being comfortable in her own skin...

Do you think? I am not so sure. Someone "comfortable in their own skin" doesn't trapse down the runway with a tarp over her butt.

Please don't flame me for that, but it is the truth. Kirsty might have come a long way with her body image but she isn't *there* yet...

I think she looks great.
As for the heavier thighs: they are firm. And she doesn't have the model savy to position herself so they look slimmer. She's standing straight-on to us, which is one of the most 'widening' poses you can have.

oh i agree, but i think anybody who does feel good, still have those evil demons about what they don't like about themselves. i hate my butt(dimples, never meant for backsides LOL), but(hehehe)i certainly couldn't go in the pool with a tarp over it so its just one of those things i have to live with and i eventually got used to LOL. but despite contrary belief in this fictional world of hollywood, most of the men i have met prefer somebody kristies shape over paris(although they would like her money :) )

A pose from the side or 3/4 makes you look thinner than a straight on center pose. For example, Tracie Long and Jen Carmen show something like 3/4 in their photos here - click on the "Meet the Team" link:

I also think putting a bit of a twist in the torso also makes the waist look a little slimmer.

I think Kirstie Alley is pretty no matter what.

I think she looks great in that photo and I applaud her for doing it.

People in the public's eye are scutinized with a microscope.

It is very stressful to be in the public eye -- the public can be so cruel.

Actually, Kirstie's shape is a standard of beauty in many countries and cultures, both now and in the past.

I think she looks great. I was appalled by a few ignorant remarks on another forum (not fitness related) about how "fat" she looked. Those ladies making those catty remarks were asked to post pics of themselves in bikinis, needless to say, they haven't done so. lol

Thanks for the link on the Tracie Long site. I got a chuckle out of the Susan Harris blurb:

"Here is one of Susan’s favorite “celebrity moments”:

“A little boy whose mother did my video religiously came to Charleston to visit. He had been doing the video with her for a few years. He had a yellow shirt to match my leotard, a golden chain to match mine. He was so cute. He came running in with his mom so excited and stopped looking rather confused he said, ‘Susan you got old.’ I thought his mother would die. Now that was FUNNY.”

Isn't that a scream? Now there you go - this chick with a perfect body is still showing her age! I thought that was cute in light of this Kirstie discussion.
