Kickboxing - What Has it Done for You?

I don't know because I vary my workouts so much. I beleive any exercise will do something for you if you stick with it and watch what you eat. I remember I easily lost a size in clothes when I first started incorporating intense intervals and strength into my life.

I did an all kickbox rotation for 6 weeks. I did cardio 4-5 times a week, and weights 3 times a week. I used Cardio Kicks, KPC, CIA 2203, CIA 9902 and lots of TaeBo Advanced Live series. For weights I used ME, PS SLA, PH and CTX UBS.

I'm an hour glass who builds muscle easily (mesomorph). I definitely noticed my core was tighter and stronger. My flexibility improved (my kicks got a lot higher in the last 2 weeks of the rotation). My arms also felt more toned. :)

There are two things that I have found made a difference if omitted for awhile. That is kickboxing and the floorwork for legs which I usually do with ankleweights. Both make a difference in the saddlebag area. I have left them out of rotations before and thought, wow my hollow in my derriere is going away and my legs are not as toned looking. Now I try and make sure to always fit them in my rotation somewhere.

I think the most evident benfits of kickboxing for me are flexibility (I can kick HIGH now!), ab toning (from all the twisting during punches, and the knee chambering during kicks) and arm and shoulder toning.

One "side-effect" of kickboxing that I don't like so much is that, for me, if I do too much of it vs. step, my butt seems to get flatter :-(

Thanks for all the replies!! I used to do kickboxing at a martial arts studio about seven years ago, and it was totally awesome. I'm working my way back up now........40 lbs. heavier and ALOT out of shape!!

One of the greatest things cardio kickboxing did was motivate me. Several years ago, I began my fitness journey with Tae Bo, and I've never looked back since. I found the movements to be incredibly fun, and they even made me feel powerful. What's more, getting in shape w/ cardio kickboxing is what got me interested in other types of workouts and eventually led me to Cathe.

As far as the physical benefits, like many of the other post-ers, I think kickbox routines have made the most difference in my abs (slimming the waistline), shoulders, and triceps (mostly toning these two groups, though I think I've experienced some strengthening too). I agree that kickbox also helps develop and maintain flexibility.

All of Cathe's kickbox routines are great. I especially love Cardio Kicks. Even though I thought of myself as something of a kickbox "purist" b/c I used to practice martial arts, I LOVE all of the non-kickbox moves that Cathe includes in her workouts. They really expand the range of muscles worked and give the heart a workout.

Best of luck!!

I find kickboxing fun which means I look forward to doing it which means I do cardio more which means I lose weight. hah How's that for cause an effect? Being a little silly but I do love KPC! :)

KPC IS alot of fun. However, I'm still not able to do a whole heck of alot of this workout at once. I'm still doing the different sections. Tons of fun though!!

Once or twice a week, alternating with stepping or hi/lo cardio. I did it 2 times this weeks but it varies.

HTH:)
