Kickboxing DVDs

Hi all,

I was wondering if any one has found good kick boxing videos (besides Cathe of course). I love kickboxing and am looking to add some more to my collection. I do have some Tae bo, but I think I'd like to try something different. I also have a bag and gloves for home...if anyone knows of anyone who incorporates those too.

Thanks for any input!!

The Powerstrike series of kickboxing workouts are very popular. I don't know how you can get your hands on them, but I'm sure if you did a Google search with "Powerstrike" you could land on their website.

I also like Janis Saffell's stuff. It's less intense than Cathe's kickboxing, but you can up the intensity with weighted gloves or by doing jumping jacks during the slower parts. JS has her own website, but you can also see clips and read reviews over at collagevideo.com. Janis is great for those days where you just don't have the energy or aren't feeling 100%. She's a very upbeat, fun instructor.

I have Powerstrike Millenium 1 & 2. They are awesome - the best Kickboxing workouts I've ever had! You can order them at Powerstrike.com.

CIA 2K04 with Becky Chamberlain is an interesting workout. The routine is kickboxing on the step and the choreo is a bit dancy and fun. Superficially it seems a lot less intense than Cathe because of relatively slow music, but you can really nail every kick and punch, making it as intense as you like.

The outfit Becky wears is a bit odd; she looks like something out of Lost in Space, poor woman, so if that kind of thing bothers you, you might not click with it. ciavideo.com (sorry I don't know how to do links.)

Thank you for the suggestion A-Jock. Have you done any of the video's and if so, which do you enjoy the most?

Thank you! I've read some of JS's reviews at collegevideo and was a little worried because some of the reviews were bad. I am interested in the new one called Hardcore, have you done that one?

Hi, Lindzebird! I'm a bit of an odd duck in PowerstrikeLand; I bought the first two videos, tried one of them and decided Powerstrike was just not my cuppa tea for numerous pettifogging reasons. Most others like them a lot, so I'll just chalk it up to Bald Eccentricity.

In all candor, I'm very monogamous when it comes to marriage and exercise DVD's. There's one guy for me, and then there's one exercise guru . . . and you got 3 guesses as to who is the latter!

Lindzebird,

I own Powerstrike 1. Although I enjoy it for it's intensity, the moves feel a bit redundant.

AJ, I don't know if you can relate but here goes:

Pettifogging reason #1. Instructors take you through all the moves on one side of your body before finally moving to the other side of the body.

Pettifogging reason #2. Ah-gain, ah-gain, ah-gain. (Again, again, again with an Italian accent).

In a nutshell, not a real fun workout but gets the job done.

I also own Janis Saffel's Hardcore workout. I did it once and am now planning on getting rid of it. She is a bit to dancy for me and not in the least bit intense. Her husband leads the very last combination which is fun and intense. The problem is, out of four or five combinations, I only enjoyed one and it's the only one that made me sweat. If I don't sweat, I don't feel like I've worked near as hard as I should.

Different strokes for different folks...or maybe just spoiled by Cathe.

At first those the instructors accent in Powerstrike annoyed me. It took a few before I understood some of what she said. How it looks kinda low budget irritated me, but it grew on me. It really is a great workout.

I actually like how they work one side and then the other.

Try Hardcore Kickbox Circuit with Janis Saffell, I work out with this once or twice a week, a good one.
