Kick Punch Crunch with Weights

Oh my gosh! I heard someone on these boards say that they do KPC w/ weighted gloves so I tried it today. I am totally fried! By about 20 minutes into the workout, I felt like my arms were moving in slow motion. I think I'm going to have to take a nap today.

My actual question however, is this. When you are totally fried, like your arms quiver while you are taking the DVD out of the player, what do you do for recovery? I tend to feel like food will help me, but it doesn't really and I'm not sure what to do for a pick me up so I can get thru the rest of my day.

This won't help you at all, but I just wanted to say I love to do Kick, Punch, and Crunch with the weights. I can't wait until Cathe brings out the new Kick box routine workout. I'm still debating on whether or not to preorder, I don't have much time left. Oh well, that's another subject.

I can't imagine doing this with weights. My lats have been extra sore this week and I couldn't figure out why b/c I had not done upper body weight work in a few days. I realized I had done KPC and a couple other kickbox workouts this week so I will have to remember to mix up my cardio more often to include more kickboxing workouts. I love KPC when I'm in the mood for it!

P.S. amy b...I realize my post didn't help you at all. I would take an extra rest day, warm bath, and some advil if the pain is really bad. Maybe do some gentle stretching....I like the stretches at the end of PUB.

I've been using 1# weighted gloves for kickboxing for several years (I started using them with slower-paced kb workouts, and worked my way up, both in speed, and in how long I use the gloves), so it's hard to remember how fried my arms got at the beginning.

By now, you either have found a solution on your own, or don't need one.

I have done weight workouts where body parts are quivering and shakey (the latest was, surprisingly enough to me, the upper body challenge from Supersets, keeping my feet close together when using the stability ball--for more INstability--or even holding one foot up when seated on the ball). Yeow!

Massage can help: just rubbing moisturizer onto the sore parts and doing some massage at the same time.

A bath with Epsom salts helps with DOMS, as the magnesium (I think) salts draw something out of the muscle.

Food is very useful for helping your muscles restore from an intense workout, but may not help you mentally to get through the rest of your day. High glycemic carbs get into the muscles quick, and refill the glycogen stores that they use for fuel. High glycemic carbs are things like orange juice or bananas, or (ugh!) pure sugar. Stretching throughout the rest of the day will help the muscle soreness, but ultimately it may simply be a case of taking a rest day that will do the most good. A hard workout can sometimes make you drowsy later on, and in that situation I think the only thing you can do to help is to take a nap. :)

Cheers,
Sandra

Thank you for all the help. We had our Thanksgiving at lunch yesterday w/ the big family and I actually felt okay after that. Note to self; After tough workout, eat Thanksgiving type meal. ;o)
My deltoids are sore today and so are my upper abs, but that's a good thing. It isn't too bad and today is my off day.
There are several bits of advice here that I didn't know. Thanks!

I do mine w/weighted gloves on. I also do Janis Saffell with them. And yes, my arms are soooo shaky when I am removing that DVD. If its a particulary sluggish day I won't use the gloves.

did you hear that? it was my jaw dropping to the floor. because I can't imagine doing this vid with weighted gloves....of course, now that it's out there i might just have to try it....thanks a lot! ;)

I signed myself up for the torture again today. ;o)
Try the premix of Kick Box and Legs and Glutes Circuit strength w/ abs. I used the weighted gloves for the whole thing and got a great total body workout!!!!
