Kick Max vs KPC

I have read alot of neg comments about Kick Max on various threads. I have Kick Max & honestly love it when I'm in the mood for Kickbo. I especially like the leg work at the end. It always puts my legs on FIRE. I have Kick, Punch, and Crunch taped from Fittv so it is the condensed version. Anyone have both & can tell me why KPC seems to be preferred?
Tami

I have both, and truthfully, the only reason I prefer KPC more is because it was my first purchase from Cathe. KPC is more intense overall, but the blast challenge from KM isn't bad, either, and I do enjoy the leg drills from KM.

I have KPC and have hesitated to buy KM because of the reviews. I get the impression that at the beginning it's too slow to be really challenging, and then when it does get challenging it's too high impact for a lot of people. Would appreciate feedback also :)

I like KickMax myself. Bt your description of it is accurate I think. Sometimes I chop it up & mayjust pick out the legs or add 4DS kickbox with the kickbox from KM. I ordered KPC so I'll have to compare them now.

I like the premixes better than the workout as filmed; doing the blasts at the end WIPES ME OUT, especially when I can only start to work out at 7:45 at night. I like the bootcamp premix that has the blasts at the beginning. ;)

I think it is a question of definitions and "genuineness."

What I mean by this is that KPC has the kickbox moves and flavour throughout the workout, with superbly choreographed kick and punch combos. Whereas Kick Max feels "kickboxy" in only two thirds of the workout, the combos and the leg drills, but the remaining third is high intensity, high impact cardio/plyo drills that are not kickbox orientated in nature but yet another excuse for Cathe to stick in cardio plyo blasts that she loves so much. The problem is that these plyo cardio drills are better suited to a DVD like Drill Max or something hi-lo orientated. In Kick max they are somewhat gratuitous, hence many feel that Kick Max is not a "genuine" kickbox workout.

Many also seem to use Kick Max in sections, rather than doing the workout "as is." For example, you could add the combos and punch drills onto CTX kickbox cardio section to lengthen it and make it more intense and add the leg drills on after the cardio. You could add the leg drills on to your weighted leg day or at the end of KPC for additional leg training. You could do the cardio/plyo drills on any day you wanted to add intense cardio blasts before ending your workout: i.e. you could do a regular step routine, say the 3 combos of StepBlast, then omit the challenge at the end and do the cardio/plyo drills instead.

Many ways to work it.

I love Kick Max. I usually grab it before KPC. I agree with the posted on the bootcamp premix on Kick Max. I like doing the blast first then drills.

I have to echo Clare's sentiments about why people prefer KPC.

Another thing: I prefer workouts with a kickbox feel (KPC) to those that mix kickbox and hi-lo, and I found the first segment of KM to be too short, and to have too many pivot moves (which I find take away from the intensity somewhat, because energy is going into merely turning rather than punching or kicking). I take out the pivots when I do it, but I still wish it were longer!

(I'm hoping at least one of the MMA workouts Cathe plans to do next has a nice long warm-up segueing into the main workout like KM, interesting combos like KM without the pivots and KPC, fast punches like some of the combos in both, and no superfluous (yep, the perfect word, Clare) jump tucks, etc.

I traded KickMax...gasp! I like the blasts and the leg drills and I get both those sections on Hardcore Extreme. I like KPC b/c the intensity gradually builds and I feel my heart rate is consistently higher in KPC. I found the beginning portion of KickMax to be kind of boring and it just didn't do a lot to elevate my heart rate. I find KPC to just be a better cardio, well put together workout than KickMax, but again portions of KickMax are great. I just didn't like the workout as a whole compared to KPC.

Ditto. I love these two segments and they're mixed up beautifully in HCE with LowMax and Imax 3. I am not a huge fan of kickboxing in general, so I don't care for the kicking/punching combos in KM. KPC is a sweatfest for me. It kicks my butt. But, like I said--I don't reach for it often since I don't care for kicboxing.

I HATE Kick Max! (sorry Cathe, you know you're my hero!) The payoff just isn't worth the effort for me. I love the KB combos but I simply cannot stand the drills. They are super high impact & there's nothing even remotely fun about them. Add that to the fact that I burn maybe 270-280 cals w/KM, as opposed to 400+ w/KPC.

The only benefit of this workout--for me anyway--is the inspiration I get from Cathe's awe inspiring abs. I think she was more cut for this series (I think it's part of the Hardcore series?) than any other.

I don't think I've ever sold, traded or given away a single Cathe workout. But this one most definitely has collected more dust than every other DVD I own.

I never, ever dread KPC. It's my go-to workout when nothing else sounds fun (it and Step Blast) I've never been a fan of Kick Max as is, although I think there are ways to add the segments on to other workouts.

FYI: You might as well just plan on getting all of Cathe's workouts. They are that good.

A wise purchase, Dela!! If I were stranded on an island, and could only have one KB DVD with me, it'd be KPC...I hope theres a TV and DVD player on my island, or I just brought KPC with me for nothing!

>expensive ;)

This is only the beginning. Resistance is futile. Even after you own every Cathe you could possibly want, she comes out with something new or someone else mentions another instructor that they love and the dollars just fly away. It's like a Holy Grail search! :p

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

OMG it's so funny cause it's sooo true. I have never been like this before, I'm totally obsessed with Cathe's videos and these boards, I've already pre-ordered STS.

It's hysterical, every time I find something else I want to try I go through this whole inner dialogue about should I buy it now or maybe wait until the other one I just bought arrives, and then... I buy it!
