Kick Max vs. KPC

Today I did Kick Max for the very first time. I was kind of dissappointed. I love Cathe, but this workout did not challenge me the way KPC does. The four combos in the beginning were okay, the blasts were fun and brought my heart rate up, but they were over so quick and then the leg conditioning, while I felt the work in my legs I was just so not impressed.

KPC was the first Cathe workout I ever did and I love that workout! I guess I kind of expected Kick Max to be equally a challenge. But truthfully, Cardio Kicks is better to me than Kick Max.

:-( I feel bad being dissappointed -- it's my first time with Cathe.

Tomorrow I'm doing Body Max 2 for the first time. Hoping to like it!

Hi,

Don't feel bad because you are not alone. When compared to KPC kickmax just doesn't cut it for me. It is too slow to start and then the combos like you said were just okay and while you really feel the leg drills in the end, well it comes too little too late.
This is probably the only workout of hers that I am not in love with. And I don't think you should feel bad because for some people that is just the right mix of combos and cardio and for others it just isn't enough.
KPC is my all time favorite kickboxing workout because when I get done with it I feel like a total bad ass!!

Kick Max Boot Camp Challenge Premix

I get a lot of use out of this DVD, but not as produced. The boot camp challenge premix is my favorite way to use this workout. It starts with the warm-up followed by the blast challenge, skips the first and easiest combo, and ends with the last 3 combos and the stretch. The blasts are so much fun on my rebounder! I find that I am able to get my heart rate up during the blasts and keep it elevated with this premix. I love hi-lo workouts, so this premix is fun for me. The individual segments of this workout are great to use as add-ons to other workouts as well. Cathe’s form is stellar in this workout. She looks like she could knock someone out with those punches!

My favorite kickboxing workouts are 4-Day Split Kickbox, Cardio Kicks, and the Kick, Punch, & Crunch cardio conditioning premix.

Do not feel bad about being disappointed. I personally cannot stand the popular Gym Style upper body workouts that everyone raves about. I prefer the Muscle Max upper body premix. Cathe has something for everyone in her collection, and it is unlikely that anyone will love every workout she produces. Other than the Gym Style upper body workouts, I can find a premix I love on most of her other DVDs even if I do not bond with the workout as filmed. The ability to mix and match is part of the glory of DVDs.

Blessings,
Heather B.

I think KPC is fabulous, but Kick Max... not so much. No need to feel bad about it though. I predict you are going to LOVE Body Max 2. I put off purchasing BM2 until just recently. I did it yesterday for the first time and all I can say is, "WOW!" Enjoy;-)

Thanks ladies,

I so love KPC (and feel like a bad ass when I'm done too! :))it just kind of caught me off gaurd that this one didn't do it for me. I'll give some premixes a chance at another time - but I'm over feeling bad.

Looking forward to BM2!!

I know what you mean, although I do like both. I particularly like the leg part of KM simply because it is different and I do feel it.

I agree with what everyone has already said. K,P,C was also my very first Cathe DVD. I have a suggestion, though. Put K,P,C and Kick Max together into a mish-mosh workout. For example:

1. K,P,C intermediate + high intensity drills
2. Kick Max blast challenge
** Boot Camp cardio 2x
3. K,P,C kicking & punching combos
4. Kick Max leg conditioning drills

Note, If you have the original Boot Camp you could add in the cardio only premix. It;s 8 minutes long, so if you doubled it, it would give you 16 more minutes aof hard core cardio!

This is one of the first mish-moshes I ever came up with. I have bee doing it for over a year now and never get tired of it. This workout always leaves me with a sense of accomplishment.

I use and enjoy both, simply because they are so different. KPC is at a higher intensity, KM allows me to work on my form a little more, and the leg drills have improved my kicking skills and flexibility.

Do I like KM as much as KPC? Nope, not even close, but KM is in my rotation for variety.

Hi. The mish mosh is broekn down:

7.5 + 16 minutes (intermediate + high intensity drills)
15 minutes (blast challenge)
21 minutes (kicking & punching combos)
18 minutes (leg conditioning drills)

I have never really gotten into the leg conditioning drills, so I put in Bootcamp [original] for another 16 minutes

KM just doesn't have thee fun vibe of KPC and I really hate that she saves the intensity drills for later. I much prefer to get those out of the way first. I looooove KPC ;-)

BTW< does anyone know why Cedie never appears in the kick boxing videos?

I didn't like KM the first time I tried it.
There were some things I liked--the longer warm-up, the music, the outfits--but I found the beginning combos section too short and too 'turny' and the blast section too 'not-kickboxy' and full of 'cheerleadery' jumps. I didn't even make it to the leg conditioning section before I Ebayed it.

Then some time passed, and I used other kickboxing workouts, and ended up modifying them quite a bit, but still enjoying them. I was hungry for more kickboxing (my favorite type of cardio), and decided that if I could modify those other workouts and still like them, why not Cathe?

So I repurchased it and modified: no turns, the jumpier portions of the blast segment done on a rebounder. And now I really like it (though I wish the rockin' music were louder!).

I suggest you put it aside for a while, then try it again.

>I so love KPC (and feel like a bad ass when I'm done too!
>:))it just kind of caught me off gaurd that this one didn't
>do it for me.

I felt exactly the same way: I was hoping KM would be in the same vein as KPC, but more intense and with different moves and sequences, and KM seemed like a different direction (and one I wasn't as happy with).

Beavs,

I read somewhere that Cedie just isn't too crazy about kickboxing, and Lorraine and Jai are both certified instructors, so Cathe usually has them in her KB workouts. I believe Brenda falls in the same catagory as Cedie in her feelings towards KB.

That's right Jerry, I feel bad I forgot about Brenda! There is something missing without those two there ;)
